Critic Reviews

ACG - Jeremy Penter - Wait for Sale
"The turn-based combat is a welcome change however combined with some weird decisions and a somewhat bland story its not all sunshine and rainbows for this new kid on the street."
Attack of the Fanboy - Joshua Garibay - 4 / 5 stars
Yakuza: Like a Dragon is a bold shift in direction, one that succeeds more than it stumbles in the pursuit of its new design.
Bazimag - Sina Golabzade - Persian - 8.6 / 10
The transition from a top notch brawler to a JRPG feels totally seamless. The gameplay have all the good parts we expect from a JRPG translated to the language of the Yakuza series but it also has some of the bad parts like the need for grinding and some unfair boss fights. The story and new characters are presented in a way that make this new journey for the franchise very well worth taking.
COGconnected - Jaz Sagoo - 86 / 100
Yakuza: Like a Dragon is the perfect update for a flagging series. Its clever storytelling, bizarre substories, and engrossing gameplay makes this one of the strongest entries in the franchise. Mixing deep societal messages with references to popular culture, the game is both hilarious and thought-provoking. It is very clear to see that with Ichiban Kasuga, the series is in safe hands
Cerealkillerz - Nick Erlenhof - German - 8.5 / 10
Yakuza: Lika A Dragon goes a different way but follows what made the series so great. The new protagonist, the story (besides some weak points), the crazy mini games, battle animations, summons and Ichiban Kasuga offer so much fun and action. Some boring dungeons in the middle of the game and balancing issues are the only downsides you should expect. Even if you are not a fan of turn based combat or haven't touched the series yet, you should give this a shot.
Daily Mirror - Eugene Sowah - 4 / 5 stars
Yakuza: Like a Dragon has definitely made some drastic changes to the series but without losing its original charm. The fast pace turn base system has so much added depth while still feeling like a Yakuza game.
The graphics are the best the series has seen to date, players will fall for the ridiculous Ichiban who is a well-worked new hero to the series. Other than the lag between different sections of the games and slightly clunky animations it's really hard to fault this reimagining of the legendary series.
Destructoid - Jordan Devore - 7.5 / 10
Like a Dragon isn't my favorite Yakuza, and its fresh turn-based combat eventually grows stale, but I have a lot of love for it. If it's your first game, it'll quickly initiate you into this wild, one-of-a-kind series.
Digitally Downloaded - Matt Sainsbury - 5 / 5 stars
Who knows if this wild experiment will bear fruit and become its own series. Yakuza: Like a Dragon has everything it needs; an excellent crop of new characters, and even a new playground to base a series in, as we hadn't been to Yokohama previously. The future of the series would depend on how turn-based combat sells in comparison to action brawler combat, I would assume. Either way, though, Like a Dragon is a delight. It's a parody-homage to every turn-based JRPG trope you've ever known, set against brilliant character writing and the traditional urban playgrounds that have built this series into something beloved. I hope the development team is rewarded for the inherent risk that they took with this undertaking.
Eurogamer - Malindy Hetfeld - No Recommendation / Blank
Like A Dragon pulls off an impressive JRPG makeover while simultaneously taking on all the flaws of the genre.
Everyeye.it - Giuseppe Carrabba - Italian - 8.5 / 10
Like a Dragon is the story of a carp that turns into a dragon, of a gang of scapegoats who decide to defy the established order and come to the head of a desperate situation. Ichiban Kasuga is an individual far from dojima's stoic and serious Dragon but has an equally kind soul and crackling personality, which makes him - along with his strange clique - the symbol of Yakuza's rebirth. A rebirth that passes through a fun and enjoyable but also improveable role-making formula. With this seventh chapter, in other words, the Ryu Ga Gotoku Studio has shown us the potential of what would seem to be his idea for the future of the series, which with the advent of next-gen consoles could give us great surprises.
GAMEtainment - Dennis Röger - German - 8.7 / 10
Yakuza: Like a Dragon has made the leap into the RPG genre with flying colors. The story is kept exciting and you can't stop following Ichiban's vendetta.
The abundance of side tasks can be a bit overwhelming for the player at the beginning. But once you have played the game for a few hours, you know the most important points in the city. Time passes very quickly when playing darts or karting. By no means you need to believe that these actions are a waste of time. You get personality points which finally strengthen the fighting actions.
The fights bring a breath of fresh air to the row and put a smile on the players' faces. Through the different creative classes you attack the opponents with pigeons or wrestling moves instead of casting disdainful fireballs. Unfortunately, the invisible AoE range of abilities spoils the fun of the game. Also the unusually long races until a comrade reaches the enemy seem strange. A timeline showing the next actors would have been helpful too.
If you like the Yakuza series and are open for new things, you definitely have to go for Yakuza: Like a Dragon.
Game Informer - Jeff Cork - 9.3 / 10
It's a new direction for the series, but Like a Dragon captures the essence of what came before while setting out on its own journey.
Game Revolution - Jason Faulkner - 4.5 / 5 stars
Yakuza fans were anxious about whether the series would survive without the glue of Kiryu Kazama to hold it together. However, Ichiban Kasuga is a worthy successor to the Dragon of Dojima, and Like a Dragon is a great new start for this fantastic series that will please long-time Yakuza fans and newcomers alike.
GameMAG - Russian - 9 / 10
You should look at Yakuza: Like a Dragon through the lens of it's protaginist. This game is unapologetically brash, unmistakable bold, life-affirming and insanely charismatic. The legend of Ichiban Kasuga journey, like a bright flame, tells us one familliar, but sweet and romantic idea - each and every one of us can become a true Hero, even if you have to fight the fate itself, while making your way through hundrends upon hundreds of random encounters.
GameSkinny - RobotsFightingDinosaurs - 10 / 10 stars
Yakuza: Like A Dragon isn't just a great Yakuza title - it's legitimately one of the best modern role-playing games there is.
GameSpew - Richard Seagrave - 8 / 10
Ultimately, despite all the changes that have been made, Yakuza: Like a Dragon feels very much like a Yakuza game. The combat may now be turn-based, and the scenery might be different, but this is still a game full of drama, thrilling battles, and a huge amount of side content, all smothered with an ample amount of humour. And I never thought I’d say this, but I didn’t miss Kazuma Kiryu one jot while playing it; Ichiban Kasuga is simply a more likeable fellow with more depth. So, if you like the Yakuza series, consider Yakuza: Like a Dragon a must-have.
GameSpot - Michael Higham - 9 / 10
Yakuza: Like a Dragon's cast of misfits makes the wild RPG combat, absurd humor, and dramatic storytelling soar.
GameWatcher - Gavin Herman - 9.5 / 10
Yakuza: Like a Dragon reminded me why I loved video games to begin with. I cannot think of a game this year that has gripped me this tightly and didn't let go. Here comes a game brimming with joy and excitement that is earnest with its drama and comedy. It's the sort of game you can gush about for hours, and I will long after this review is published. Anyone who loves RPGs, open world games, comedies, crime dramas, and games PERIOD should have a lot of fun with the newest Yakuza.
Gameblog - Romain Mahut - French - 9 / 10
As the Yakuza franchise is still trying to become a household franchise in the West, the Ryu Ga Gotoku Studio decided to flip the switch and create a turn-based RPG. The result of that experiment, Yakuza: Like a Dragon, is a resounding success. The "dynamic RPG" gameplay fits the Yakuza universe and tropes like a glove and its mechanics are surprisingly deep. And the fact that the game's new characters are lovable doesn't hurt. The turn-based gameplay will probably put off some gamers but Yakuza: Like a Dragon truly deserves a shot. The Ryu Ga Gotoku Studio made the JRPG genre proud.
GamesRadar+ - Hirun Cryer - 4.5 / 5 stars
Yakuza: Like a Dragon impressively pulls off the switch to an RPG in style, providing an excellent combat system supported by loveable characters, and a tantalising main storyline with meaningful side quests.
GamingBolt - Pramath - 9 / 10
Yakuza is reborn in this brilliant and compelling new addition to series canon that recontextualizes series tropes and mechanics for an entirely new genre, delivering one of the best outings the series has ever seen.
GamingTrend - David Flynn - 95 / 100
Ryu Ga Gotoku Studio has topped themselves once again with Yakuza: Like a Dragon! This new take on Yakuza brings a lot of fun, new ideas to the table while remaining its heartfelt self. Turn based combat is somehow a perfect fit for this new direction, the characters are all instantly loveable, and the story is endearingly melodramatic.
Generación Xbox - Adrian - Spanish - 9 / 10
Yakuza: Like A Dragon is a great turn-based RPG that will keep you hooked on the screen for many hours. One of the best games of the genre on Xbox.
God is a Geek - Chris White - 9.5 / 10
Yakuza: Like a Dragon is a phenomenal entry into the Yakuza franchise, with an interesting new protagonist, a compelling story, and a combat system that constantly mixes things up.
Heavy - Elton Jones - 8.8 / 10
Yakuza: Like a Dragon largely succeeds at moving the series forward in a bold new direction. Kasuga and his band of unlikely heroes are incredibly interesting and make it so easy to care about their crazy antics. The new main locale is massive and plays host to so many compelling things to do. Getting wrapped up in everything Like a Dragon has to offer is worth it and you’ll easily pour 30+ hours into its captivating tale. The turn-based battle system works in parts, but its annoying character placement issues and faulty summons system keep it from being a total victory. Like a Dragon is still worth hopping into if you’re looking for an amazing parody of RPG tropes, however. It’s a Yakuza sequel that signals a bright future ahead for the beloved franchise.
Hey Poor Player - Francis DiPersio - 4.5 / 5
No doubt about it, SEGA took some considerable risks when they decided to change their established formula so radically for Yakuza: Like A Dragon. But in the end, I think the gamble paid off. Ryū ga Gotoku Studio's latest offering may not pack the punchy, moment to moment gameplay of its predecessors. Still, it makes up for that with its more in-depth brawls, an engaging job system, and a story that focuses not just on a single protagonist, but on several compelling heroes with their own complex motivations. While beat-'em-up fanatics may find this change in direction blasphemous, I couldn't be happier. If you're a Yakuza fan who loves JRPGs, adding this underworld epic to your PS4 library is a no-brainer.
Hobby Consolas - Rafael Aznar - Spanish - 90 / 100
It keeps the great narrative and setting from the Yakuza series, using a new protagonist, a city that has more life than even Kamurocho and turn-based combats. It suffers from some of the classical troubles of the J-RPG, but it is a breath of fresh air and a great example of how to reinvent a franchise.
IGN - Tristan Ogilvie - 7 / 10
Yakuza: Like a Dragon takes some bold steps in a new direction for the series but neglects to maintain its balance.
IGN Italy - Biagio Etna - Italian - 9.1 / 10
An extraordinary and courageous restart for the new Sega title, an extraordinary JRPG that lays the foundations for even more prosperous growth.
IGN Spain - Álex Pareja - Spanish - 8.5 / 10
Yakuza Like a Dragon is a real and huge JRPG who knows how to maintain the essence of the saga. Fun fighting system and deep script with too many ups and downs to justify the new playable elements. I hope this new formula that works and gives new wings to the franchise will be repeated.
Inverse - Jen Glennon - 9 / 10
Like a Dragon is right up there with Yakuza 0 in terms of sheer fun-factor and an almost dizzying abundance of stuff to see and do.
Metro GameCentral - Nick Gillett - 7 / 10
The turn-based battles don't fully convince but the new protagonist and bizarre mini-games still feel distinctively and entertainingly Yakuza.
Noisy Pixel - Azario Lopez - 9 / 10
Yakuza: Like a Dragon makes for an excellent new entry in this long-running series. The developers took a chance on a new protagonist and battle system, which forces fans out of their comfort zone for a very different yet, familiar Yakuza experience. Although the opening exposition can be a bit overwhelming, this is a standout video game on its own with plenty of emotional story beats, insane sub-stories, and plenty of ways to spend your time around Ijincho.
PC Gamer - Andy Kelly - 72 / 100
A fun, charming, and occasionally brilliant Yakuza game, let down by an overabundance of repetitive turn-based battles.
PCGamesN - Ian Boudreau - 9 / 10
An utterly charming yarn about friendship and kindness that breathes gritty modern life into the quaint JRPG format of classic Dragon Quest.
Pixel Arts - Arman Akbari - Persian - 8.5 / 10
Yakuza: Like a Dragon is a very good sequel to the popular Yakuza series which shows that Ryu Ga Gotoku Studios still manages to create a great story and narrative. The game's turn-based battles are good in themselves, but due to the extreme use of enemies in the environment, they soon became repetition.
PlayStation Universe - Joe Apsey - 8.5 / 10
Yakuza: Like A Dragon is an impressive and quality JRPG that successfully acts as a jumping in-point for new fans and also ties itself to the series' past in exciting and engaging ways. The turn-based combat has been infused with some mechanics that help retain the action and over-the-top hilarity the series is known for. Mini-games once again shine and there is a lot packed into Ijincho. Like A Dragon paves the way for a bright future for the franchise.
Player2.net.au - Stephen del Prado - A or higher
It was a gamble on Sega’s part to make such major changes to a tried and true formula, even more bewildering given its recent meteoric rise in Western markets. If Yakuza: Like A Dragon proves anything, it’s that fortune does indeed favour the bold.
Polygon - Kazuma Hashimoto - Unscored
Like a Dragon's story attempts to touch on certain social issues that are relevant in present-day Japan, such as classism, social status, sex work, and government corruption on a prefectural level. However, the writing often lacks the nuance or range to address the topics at hand, and doesn't give any of them adequate room to breathe. The second half of the game gains some measure of focus as plot threads tie together and result in genuinely surprising twists, but when Like a Dragon drops the ball, it drops it hard. Despite this, the Japanese cast's performances sell the story with evocative deliveries that breathe life into the characters. The finale is an emotional one that brought me to tears and moved me, just as most previous Yakuza games have.
PowerUp! - Greg Newbegin - 9 / 10
Yakuza: Like a Dragon, when all of its pieces are taken together, is not only a fantastic new direction for the series, it's also one of its best titles.
Press Start - Kieron Verbrugge - 9 / 10
Yakuza Like a Dragon is both a fresh start and a shot in the arm that caters to series veterans and newcomers like. It bears all the hallmarks of a great Yakuza game, while making a damned good case for its revamped battle system. After Yakuza 6 topped the rest of the franchise with a matured and succinct focus it feels even more exciting to see the whole thing blown wide open again and have Ryu ga Gotoku just run wild. Kudos is deserved at Sega of America for their commitment to the game's localization as well, which is incredibly considered and comprehensive. I think I've found a new favourite Yakuza game.
RPG Site - 7 / 10
With a new battle system and new main character, Yakuza: Like A Dragon aims to be a new entry point to Yakuza newcomers even though it is anything but that.
Rocket Chainsaw - Adam Ghiggino - 4.5 / 5 stars
So, the takeaway is this – Yakuza: Like a Dragon is a successful experiment. So successful that I think it should be the template for much of the series going forward.
Saudi Gamer - Essam Al-Shahwan - Arabic - 9 / 10
A brilliant reinvention of the series that still manages to faithfully capture its essence, with an eclectic cast of characters, the star being Ichiban himself. A great entry that goes toe-to-toe with Yakuza 0.
Shacknews - Donovan Erskine - 8 / 10
Yakuza: Like a Dragon is a successful pivot from traditional Yakuza mainstays. The game goes heavy on style, while still packing in enough substance to keep players satisfied. The party system and new RPG elements give players more ways to play than ever before. The turn-based combat is solid, and never feels too foreign. Longtime fans of the franchise will appreciate what Ryu Ga Gotoku Studio and SEGA have to offer in Yakuza: Like a Dragon.
Siliconera - Graham Russell - 9 / 10
Much like Kasuga’s dragonfish tattoo feels like a quirky but faithful successor to Kiryu’s dragon, Yakuza: Like a Dragon rebuilds the franchise by leaving a lot of it in place. The new protagonist doesn’t feel like he has seven games of story in him, but his eagerness to join the fray could carry the next few entries.
Stevivor - Matt Gosper - 8 / 10
After the culture shock of such a total change to the Yakuza recipe, I’m extremely glad the Ryu Ga Gotoku Studio team took such a big leap when Kiryu’s tale came to an end. Like A Dragon is a revitalised game full of fresh ideas and proves that the series won’t be re-treading the same ground with Ichiban in the driver’s seat. If this is the first step into the new age of Yakuza, I can’t wait to see how bonkers the next game will be.
TechRaptor - Robert Scarpinito - 8 / 10
Yakuza: Like a Dragon refreshes the action with a turn-based JRPG that retains its charming identity, but it falls into some pitfalls that are emblematic of the genre.
The Games Machine - Danilo Dellafrana - Italian - 8.2 / 10
Yakuza: Like a Dragon is an interesting new entry into the criminal universe created by SEGA, and undoubtedly represents the most courageous and anarchic chapter so far. It's not entirely convincing, but what works bodes well for the future of the series.
TheSixthAxis - Thomas Hughes - Unscored
Yakuza Like a Dragon is an enjoyable new twist on the series, although it's not hard to imagine that many long-time fans of the series will be put off by its slow pace. In a day and age where video game companies rarely take risks, Like a Dragon is a refreshing change of pace for a series that risked starting to feel stale.
TrustedReviews - Jade King - 4.5 / 5 stars
Yakuza: Like a Dragon is a triumph, and Ryu Ga Gotoku Studio should be commended for redefining such a seasoned franchise, despite the backlash it might have received. Leaving Kazuma Kiryu behind hasn't been easy, but Ichiban Kasuga and company have crafted a compelling path into the future that I cannot wait to see continue.
VideoGamer - Josh Wise - 9 / 10
This is the crux of Yakuza: Like a Dragon. It is fascinated by the way that games lurk at the soft verges of life, vesting our days with dreams.
Wccftech - Kai Powell - 9.1 / 10
The mean streets of Yokohama offer the opportunity for a new cast, a new suit, and a new hero. Ichiban Kasuga might not be the role model in the same way that Kiryu-chan was, but this dragon's quest might be the most fun Yakuza title to date!
Windows Central - Zackery Cuevas - 5 / 5 stars
Yakuza: Like a Dragon feels like everything I ever wanted in a game. Once the game stomps on the gas, it very rarely slows down. Its unique cast of characters and gameplay had me hooked and wanting more, and it almost feels like it never stops giving. Even after the story ends at the 45+ hour mark, I was ready to fight more, complete more side missions, and squeeze out every drop of gameplay that this game has to offer.
ZTGD - Ken McKown - 9 / 10
The Yakuza series continues to grow and expand in the gaming world. I love its quirky humor and deep narratives. This new entry begins a new saga and I cannot wait to see how the story of Ichi evolves over time. If it is even half as good as Kiryu’s the studio will have another series of great games on its hands. Everything about this title feels good and for those worried about having previous knowledge, don’t be concerned. Like a Dragon is a wonderful jumping in point for the series and also one of the best titles in it to date. Don’t sleep on this game, it is worth digging into.

Brotherhood - Thief in Law (Yakuza in Russia)

TL;DR: I imagined a hypothetical Yakuza-style and mood game set in Russia that will never happen, but I think the idea fits too well and wanted to share with the sub. Source: Russian/Post-USSR-Territory immigrant.
So I was supposed to sleep yesterday to get ready for work, but instead I was up until 1 am, frantically writing down ideas, that felt like Bloodborne notes when seen in the morning. But I genuinely like this "pitch", plus it's more original then the monotony of "Your favorite X" posts for you, dear reader. So here is what I have:
Name: Without going much into the "lore", I'm not great with naming. "Thief in Law" is a legit russian term for a very specific type of criminal, not exactly Yakuza-Samurai, but something closer to the representation of the Mafia families. I wish it had a better english "ring" to it. Brotherhood is a slight play on the "Brother" naming convention (yes, russian gangsters call each other "aniki" too). I'm not too versed in the criminal overworld to come up with a better name. Other options I had were "Vor" ("вор") - "Thief" directly translated, but taking the page from "Yakuza" playbook, or "Pahan" ("Пахан") - apparently a mafia slang for the head of the gang, that I found on the wiki.
Mood/Lore/Story: So, here is another part I'm not so strong at, since "crime" was not really my thing before I moved away, I was a good boy! BUT-BUT-BUT, even the things that are known to me on the surface level are already perfect for the type of serious, straight-faced, convoluted and nationalist storytelling the Yakuza games are known for. Back home, we used to have a period called "Rakish 90s" ("Лихие девяностые"). In short - when USSR fell apart, and we still haven't figured out the whole "capitalist" thing, the Yakuza-style crime of rackets, schemes, financial pyramids, weapon trafficking and all that good stuff ran rampant, because a lot of shit in the government had to be rebuild from scratch, leaving too much wiggle room for criminals and people willing to do anything for a buck. Capitalism is cool, but if there are no rules in place, people will and were exploiting everything and everyone. 20 years later, that time created a climate of romanticized crime. Not to the extent of "Yakuza" with pinkie cutting old-time traditions, obviously, but very similar in spirit and the same amount of reach into politics (our president was a KGB agent, if you didn't know! and KGB is like the CIA of 'Merica, being the shittiest internal secret service!). "Eye for an eye", "sitting in prison means respect", "honor among thieves" etc etc. Probably the most classic representation of it can be found in a movie "Brother" as well as "Bimmer" ("Бумер") - they are not "Yakuza-style" comedies with serious plots, but they have the potential to be, since they can be interpreted as a kind of a romanticized version of that kind of life. There can be also a fuck ton of colorful characters - Your political criminals in suits; Your slimy dudes covered in tatoos that will shank you; militaristic old-guard pining for the old days; you skinheads and anti-fa; the younger kids, that are too influenced by the west and "don't get it, MAN"; I also heard you guys like back tattos?!
In short, I don't have a "plot" in mind. But the setting is there to allow all sort of Yakuza-like shenanigans. Long rackets, paperwork and bribes, politics involved, prison drama, and even unveiling of old WW2 weapon caches. All that covered in the thickest level of patriotism and national pride. You can go nuts! Personally, I had this fun idea to level up, so I think the first game needs to start with a crime that the MC commits and will end with him going to jail for the first time.
Setting: Just like in Yakuza, we have 2 major cities - Moscow and St. Petersburg to choose from that can be modeled with unique places all over, plus a fuck ton of beautiful iconic minor locations.
Gameplay: So guns are a thing, but not as much as in the US. And "one single person is the best" narratives are generally not a thing. It's mostly about brothers and a team of dudes. So I'm thinking something closer to Y7's RPG system would fit better. Either way, fist-fights are still a major thing and the base Yakuza gameplay formula would also fit. It will have two major currencies - bottles vodka (CP equivalent for quests and achievements) and money (for fights and activities).
Level Up System: It will not be "money", because we don't care about investing in yourself. I was playing with the idea of it being Liters of Vodka you drank, or prison tattoos FarCry 4 style, but I think I found something better. Your EXP is your time spend in prison, since prison makes you tough! And prison guards or ex-prison guards are the most vicious horrible enemies because the work in prison. At some point in early game you meet a "trainer" who tells you to behave like your appropriate prison sentence, since you will get caught and serve it anyway! You might as well start behaving like you already did right now (very Pat-like), which will lead you to commit more crime and act even tougher. Yeah I know it doesn't really make sense, shut up.
NOW! Here is what you are actually here for. THE WACKY SHIT. THE GOOD STUFF. THE SIDE QUESTS.
Imagine playing through the contents of "/ANormalDayInRussia/" - there is so much crazy shit you can go over. There is a goldmine of wacky cultural shit, especially if you're a westerner and have no context for it. There is a high president for "I'LL KILL YOU!!!" material, since most people will be either way below you and have nothing to lose, or too above and will not care if you die. Here are some examples I could come up with:
  • You learn about side quests by giving bags of sunflower seeds to gossiping old ladies sitting on a bench (it's a thing, trust me).
  • Collecting parts of a home made vodka brewing machine.
  • Helping that one guy to sell a meteor that fell into his yard for vodka while secret agents are trying to stop you. (I couldn't find an articles but Woolie always talks about it and I believe him)
  • THE ONLY FOREGNER IN THE ENTIRE CITY - "Look at this strange and wacky black guy!! He can't speak the language good and has a very HOT Russian Girlfriend for no reason! What's up with that?!"
  • Take Tigers from Yakuza and replace them with Bears and/or Wolves for the same purpose.
  • "There is no Sex in USSR" is a classic aspect that still holds kinda true in a lot of circles. I'm not smart enough, but something good can be done with that.
  • Street racing, but everyone has the same shitty busted car.
  • Climbing on very tall building with no safety, you can make fun of Ubisoft towers!
  • Something needs to be done with the Corpse of Lenin. My suggestion - it either gets lost and/or YOU need to pretend to be him for a day and lay there.
  • Cameos by Russian celebrities that none here knows about but are forever iconic and even cult-like back there.
  • Collecting and/or dealing with post-WW2 relics, guided by a guy wearing the Kozak uniform.
  • Very tired and old hookers, that are sick of everyone's shit, but are also very wise. Potentially tied to romanticized domestic abuse and/or homophobia.
  • Quests based on old soviet movies - a boy and his robot double; diamonds hidden in a broken arm cast and/or chairs; a guy with a heart of a dog;
  • Vostok 1 mission about going into space or at least a space station.
  • The one cop that never takes bribes. Because all of them always take all the bribes all the time. And there has to be one that is a pure angel.
  • Super boss - a guy spent 40 years laying on his couch amassing POWER and is now out to bust some heads. Mr. Shakedown equivalent maybe.
  • And most importantly! Never forget - Japan... I mean Russia is the best and the brightest country in the world!!!
  • Now there is one thing I couldn't find an equivalent for, and that is the diaper wearing adults. The best I could come up with is public bath houses. A deep russian tradition to go and take the hottest bath ever with a bunch of naked dudes while being whipped by branches. I went in a couple of times when I was a kid and it's 300% super real! Sometimes followed by jumping into the cold water.
Mini-games/Activities:
  • Holiday feast! There is always more food then anyone ever needs. I'm thinking of something close to the Jack's 55th Birthday. Make sure not to fall asleep with your face in the salad (it's a national thing)!
  • Drinking Games - OBVIOUSLY. Timing mini-games maybe? Something close to the sleeping mini-game in Y7 maybe.
  • And yeah we also have karaoke of national songs! A community theater performance mini-game maybe?
Post TL;DR - woof, I think this covers all the ideas I had and hopefully showed you something interesting to read, and maybe even talk about! I know this will never happen ever, but I really liked this idea and it felt like a post well done enough to share.

Kiryu kazuma smash concept

The reveal
It will show mario walking through a city when he hears a man screaming in an alley. Mario (being the hero as he is) runs into the alley to help, but when he gets there all he sees is the iconic dragon of Dojima tattoo. Then kiryu turns around and it says "the dragon of Dojima smashs in!"
The Gimmicks
For kiryus gimmicks he has the heat meter right above his percent meter. It will look like the one from yakuza 0. You can fill it by attacking the oppenent. Sometimes you will get a special prompt to press the special button to do a heat move at rank 2 or 3 of heat. There are some character specific heat moves. An example, If uses his motorcycle and kiryu picks it up with max heat he will be able to use the special button to smash it over his head for some big damage. It won't be cinematic. All it will do is freeze the opponent in place and have kiryu do the heat move. If there is multiple players the one not in the hat action can move and attack to either do more damage to the one getting heat actioned or to interrupt kiryu by hurting him. There's a lot of heat actions.
The specials
For his neutral special he will change his fighting style. He has four different styles, brawler, rush, beast, and dragon. Based off of his 4 styles from yakuza kiwami and yakuza 0. These will only affect some heat moves, his jabs, and his grabs. For his side special he will use the shoulder charge he learns in his beast style. He will stop at the ledge if he uses it and if he uses it in the air he will not go into free fall. You can charge it and the longer you do the farther he'll go. For his up special he will use an uppercut to go straight up, inspired by his uppercut from his rush style. Kinda like little mac but better. For his down smash its a counter. You know it, you love it, its the komaki tiger drop. Its insanely precise but if you hit it, it'll deal massive damage and send opponents flying.
The A Attacks
For his dash attack he does his normal dropkick backflip thing. For his jab in brawler mode its his normal 4 hit combo. But, the special thing about his jab is that if you use a smash attack at any time during his combo he will do a heavy attack like in his game. All his jab combos will switch depending on which style he uses. They will all be the same as in the game. For his forward tilt he will do a large hook kick. You can angle it up or down. For his up tilt he will do a quick uppercut from front to back. For his down tilt he will do a sweep kick with it sending the opponent straight up. His forward smash he does a big hook. His up smash is a big uppercut. His down smash is a crouching spin wth hus arms out.
The arials.
For his neutral air he does a standard kung foo kick like many others. For his forward air he does an axe kick in mid air with the possibility to spike. His back air is that he does a spinning back fist. His down air is that he can punch straight down. And his up air is him doing a small uppercut.
The final smash.
For his final smash goro majima comes out of nowhere whereing the costume of one of the smash characters and does a quick slash across the screen and the first opponent he hits gets sent into a quick animation where he and kiryu both beat on your opponent. It ends with majima saying in Japanese "this is for kiryu-chan!" And then a big slash mark appears across the screen. If the opponent is over 100% then they immediately die.
The taunts.
For his first taunt he has a call with one of 5 characters. The first and most likely person is Haruka. The second one is majima. The third one is date-san. The fourth one is the florist of sai. And the final one is nagumo from yakuza 6. For his second taunt he just makes a come at me symbol with his hands. For his final taunt he clenchs his fists in his fighting position.
The entrences/win screen.
He enters the game by walking in under the red kamurocho sign. For his first win screen he sees haruka run up and hug him. For his second one he walks away and throws his jacket on the floor. For his final win screen a bunch of his friends show up and take a pick with him.
The grabs
He just has his normal grabs from the games.
The outfits
For his normal costume he wears his normal red and grey suit. His alts are the different costumes he wears in his games. He has the white and orange suit from Y0, his Hawaiian shirt from Y3, his judgement suit from Y0, an ono michio costume, a costume that mimics goro majimas costume, a normal black and white costume and a costume where he is shirtless.
If you guys have any other ideas or something to add, tell me in the comments.

Every Japanese cosmetic parts rated based on historical accuracy. including tank skins.

Looked through all Japanese uniforms and rated them in categories based on how historically accurate they are in terms of colour and detail in actual Japanese WW2 uniforms. (hairstyles will be excluded)
I based all of these from images from stores, replica's, originals and also looked at a reenactment group and their information to get this as accurate as possible.
Here's how a typical type 98 uniform tunic should look like:
Example 1, example 2, example 3
and here's the trousers:
Example 1, example 2, example 3

Final note: I hope the images work!
Most Historically correct (correct color, mostly correct equipment) :
Able body helmet (correct colour, but no insignia due to reasons)
Able body legs (correct colour for the Japanese uniform)
Touch stone legs (Pants have correct colour, early puttees have correct colour)
Touch stone cap
Border guard helmet (star replaced by a Sakura, this civil defence helmet did exist too.)
Border guard torso (great colour, although the uniform has Shoulder epaulets which the type 98 didn't have)
Sun stroke legs (correct shade for army, black shoes and gaiters would work for the navy)
Squall cap
Explorer legs (correct color)
Wild animal torso (correct shade of the tunic, IJA also had camouflage nets)
Wild animal legs
Jungle viper helmet (just a helmet with foliage)
Master at arms gasmask/hachimaki
Sentinel cap (regular cap with motorcycle goggles/dust goggles. These are the goggles you want to use instead of pilot goggles since they were common with infantry and such)
Kaminari cap (correct shade of blue and white for a ship operator from the IJN)
Kaminari legs (Correct shade of blue and white.)
Assembled sun hat (great color of the cap.)
Tetsu no ame helmet
Tetsu no ame torso (great colour of tunic, the equipment is correct for a army paratrooper)
cloud burst legs (correct pant colour for the IJA.)
Arashi hachimaki (these were headbands worn by pilots and soldiers around their head or helmet)
Ambusher helmet (correct color, lacks two sun flaps though)
Ambusher legs (great color on both gaiters and shoes)
beach head raider helmet
Homeland guardian legs ( good color, way better than border guard)
High tide cap
high tide shorts (just the perfect color)

Meh, kind of correct (Correct in some parts but mostly incorrect):
Able body torso (correct shade, Type 38 Arisaka pouches are supposed to be touching each other.)
Touch stone body (a bit bright in shade, has a rifle pouch for an officer)
Squall torso (very dark compared to an actual IJA coat)
Squall legs (also a bit too dark)
Foot soldier torso (to bright shade)
Explorer torso (a bit dark in color and has pilot goggles, but the correct tanker equipment is used)
Explorer headband (nothing written on it, but apparently naval combat units wore long white headbands)
Downwind cap (color is good, but the cap itself seems to be based on a Manchurian cap)
Wild animal helmet (existed but was a last ditch civil defense helmet)
Master at arms legs (dark but is supposed to be some makeshift camouflage)
Ikazuchi legs (probably makeshift camouflage so I'll put it here)
Sentinel shorts (never seen sandals in the IJA/IJN, shorts are a tiny bit dark.
Assembled legs (a bit bright color for both pants but late war puttees are good.)
Observer helmet (A winter tanker helmet, odd to see it in the pacific but it did exist)
Oni torso (supposed to be makeshift camouflage, equipment is a bit weird)
Arashi torso (tunic itself is a good colour, The senninbari vest does exist although most senninbari were worn around the waist, type 98 grenades were mostly used in China and Indo-china.)
Ambusher torso (Shirt is a shade of green which would hint towards the SNLF, but it's too bright than SNLF green. The canteen and the bread bag are also from the army.)
Senshi torso (makeshift camouflage again, supposed to be a SNLF paratrooper. Type BE/Type 100 ammo pouches, while I've never seen a real IJA/IJN SMG pouch this is how they supposedly looked like.)
Senshi helmet (correct helmet but the gas mask is a civil defense gas mask.)
Homeland guardian helmet (same with the observer but with goggles, weird to see it in the pacific since they were used in northern china)
high tide (a bit too bright color but is other wise fine)

Not accurate (has the wrong colour and the wrong equipment and/or equipment worn in the wrong way.)
Border guard legs (too white than an actual uniform)
Sun stroke cap (too light shade, also has pilot goggles)
Sun stroke torso (too dark, almost black)
foot soldier (too dark compared to actual uniform)
Breakwater torso (the Japanese didn't use any tank tops from what I've found)
Breakwater legs (a bit too dark for the SNLF.)
Downwind torso (same with the break water torso, bandoliers were only used by the cavalry and paratroopers)
Jungle viper torso (the tunic is too bright, Ammo pouches are worn around the belt while they should be worn around the waist. he has a red scarf for some reason)
Jungle viper legs (too dark)
master at arms torso (too white, is probably supposed to resemble paratroopers of some sort)
Ikazuchi (has bandoliers and mortar pouches here and there, also tank top again.)
Sentinel torso (too orange/tanned which would mostly been seen on the Type 38/45/45kai and showa 5 tunics, but it's an undershirt which should look like this or this.)
Kaminari torso (tattoos were largely associated with criminal gangs and the yakuza. seeing one would not be accurate in the navy or the army. The life vest is correct but the ammo pouches are worn on the belt and not the waist belt like they should be. Please just give a sailor uniform or an officer uniform dice!)
assembled torso (too dark compared to an actual officer uniform.)
Tetsu no ame legs (too dark, puttees are white, white puttees and gaiters were only worn on Meiji era winter uniforms or naval land combat units)
Observer torso (same case with sentinel, very bright orange/tan. The ammo pouches are correct for a mortar squad though, also has epaulets like border guard. Note: the only Japanese uniform to have epaulets facing inwards towards the neck was the type 2 naval officer uniform.)
Observer legs (too dark pants again, orange puttee straps)
Cloud burst torso (too bright shade, also only has one mortar pouch)
Cloud burst cap (too bright shade)
Oni headgear (Oh god, it's terrible! The cap is a infantry cap from the army, These caps were used by the Type 38/45/45kai/5 uniforms in WW1/early WW2 and China but were later swapped out by the cap you see on touch stone. The gas mask is from the navy, but isn't even working since it lacks the respirator tube worn on the back! Combining army and Navy equipment is not a good idea since the IJA and IJN hated each other.
Arashi shorts (too dark compared to IRL Japanese shorts)
Beach head raider torso (too bright especially since it's supposed to be a SNLF uniform which are green)
Beach head raider legs (too dark)
Senshi legs (they are supposed to be SNLF paratrooper legs but they are grey.)
Homeland Guardian torso (the color is fine, it has two mortar pouches, some type of body armor on it, type 96/99 lmg pouch. It's very messy with it both pointing for a mortar crewman and a machine gunner so I put it here)
Commando crown (grey, would work as japanese naval helmet, but it has yellow splinters over it so it's placed here)

Others:
Ikazuchi (don't know what it's supposed to be so I'll put it here)

Tank skins (Type 97 chi-ha):
Accurate (used by the Japanese army/navy and saw service in the Pacific)
Regulation (the most accurate for the Chi-ha tank since it has the correct colors and includes the Japanese yellow line)
Disrupt Green
Karekusa (standard Japanese tank camouflage)
Ambush
Grassland
Tokyo

Semi accurate (did exist and was used but not in the pacific or could possibly have existed)
Splinter (not sure about this one)
Entangled (never seen this one either
Kobe: this one was used on the type 89 I go ko in China)
Undergrowth (also used in china, this is also what the "Japanese style" camouflage for the Mark IV and Renault FT17 in Battlefield 1 is most likely based on.

inaccurate (did possibly not exist)
Disrupt grey
Khaki (never seen a Khaki Japanese tank, they either have the standard "karekusa" or some other camo)
Stratified

Tank skins (Type 2 Ka-mi):
Accurate
Karekusa
gunship (standard grey for Ka-mi tanks)
Kusa (also grey but a bit darker)
Khaki? (This Ka-mi and this Ka-mi looks a bit Khaki to me)
Raw

Not sure:
Corrigidor
Homeland
Leyte
Mariana
Shumshu
Tarawa
tropical

inaccurate
undergrowth (this was used in China, where the Ka-mi wasn't deployed.)
Disrupt grey
Ambush (I put ambush and regulation here simply because I doubt they'd be used by the IJN, most IJN tanks used a grey color unlike the army that painted their tanks)
Regulation

Regarding Nakamura's uniform:
Nakamura is wearing a type 5 uniform because the rank insignia are attached to his shoulders and not the collar of the uniform like the type 98 does.

This took a long time to make and I simply made it because I was annoyed how many wrongly colored Japanese uniforms there are. it's not as bad as the early German/British uniforms we had in the beginning, but most Japanese uniforms are a bit wrong in one way or another. I'll update the page with more images sometime later maybe.
Please tell me the images work...

A kiryu smash ultimate moveset

The grabs
For his grab he grabs the collar of your shirt, and for the pummel he punches you in the face, a lot. For his forward the he does a judo throw over his shoulder. For his back throw he throws you over his head using your collar. For his down throw, he grabs you by the face and slams it down. For his up throw he kicks you into the air. He can also do some heat moves while grabbing you.
The outfits
For his standard outfit he wears his grey suit with a red dress shirt inside. For his other costumes, he wears his white and orange suit from Y0, his Hawaiian shirt from Y3, his suit and coat from Y5, an ono michio suit from Y6, his judgement suit from Y0. Next, he has a white suit with a black dress shirt, based off of his best friend nishikiyama. And finally a goro majima inspired outfit.

The success of Setsuka's new design

So I'm a lore nerd that just graduated with an art degree and minors in history, and writing, and since I'm not working in a museum... or any relevant field for my degree, love a recession and a pandemic. I thought I'd dig into why this design of Setsuka is so successful. This will dig into her backstory a little bit.
First of all Setsuka is quite a bit younger in this game, assuming that she interacts with Mitsu during his storyline (1584-85) she'd be about six years younger then her original appearance putting her at 18, or a teenager (which is important to her new design). Setsuka's design has always been based around strong female characters present in Japanese media based in the 70's and 80's, originally based on the revenge (and sexploitation) femme yakuza films, this was particularly noted in her SC4 design with the exposed tattoo and singular arm, and the "tits out" look. She particularly takes note from a manga (which had a movie adaptation) popular at the time "Lady Snowblood" which is a fun little look into her name as hers is also based on snow, who just so happened to use an umbrella that hid a blade. Also from Oiran's but that's mostly from our good Lady Snowblood's influence. (source)) (source)) (source)
Setsuka's new design is also a homage to 70's and 80's media, but they took into account her younger age, and instead based her design on a sukeban or "girl boss" that would be present in a highschool, particularly of note is how she is covered, her hair, and how she is wearing her master's kimono over her shoulders like a cape (this is a more contemporary take on the sukeban archetype). These girls also made a pretty big surge in the 70's, and have stayed relatively popular in contemporary seinen (and some shojo) manga. (source) (source)
Now let's dig into the more specific parts of her design, specifically her hair, her shorts, her master's kimono, and her godforsaken shoes. (high res source photo thanks to u/Ramusu20)
Setsuka's hair is probably one of my favorite parts of this new design, it's disheveled, still partially dyed and mostly just put up so she can see. This is a really good insight into her character due to her being younger, she is clearly distressed due to the passing of her master, and it shows here. In her original timeline Setsuka was 24 at the time of her master's passing (and realized some very unhealthy feelings for him that I hope they eradicate in this retcon), this change is a very strong way of showing how grief effects one based on maturity. In SC3 Setsuka still looked very put together, and still dyed her hair fully black. This new design shows that Setsuka has stopped dying her hair actively, and caring for her appearance as directly as she did prior to this, she is distraught and she is young, she is so heavily focused on her revenge that she is letting her appearance go. Setsuka is also hyperaware of her appearance, she isn't from Japan she's blonde, blue-eyed, probably from Portugal, and doesn't look like anyone around her. She changed how she looked as much as possible to fit in (which is a really fun look into why she based her look on an Oiran originally because they were considered the most beautiful women in Japan!) Anyway her hair is great and the hairpiece is also a homage to her original design while actively keeping in line with her character and redesign!
SHE HAS SHORTS, like actually functional athletic shorts so she's comfortable and can move well, which is an idea present in her SC4 design; the "tits out" look was based on the ability to move her sword arm without restraint from the kimono her master gifted her (and was a popular visual in the 70's femme revenge yakuza films). I just really appreciate this on a practical level mostly.
(Also the rope tying she has around her legs, and upper body is very reminiscent of shibari style rope ties, which originated in Japan and I know about for... reasons.)
Her Master's Kimono, originally before he died Setsuka's master had gifted her a kimono, which is the one she wears in her P1 of SC3 and 4, it appears in this timeline he didn't get to do that, so she took his for (I hope to god) sentimental reasons, and not (I HOPE TO GOD) romantic ones. Setsuka's master acted as a parental figure to her, seeing as she was an abandoned foreign girl in Japan, and took her in and taught her to defend herself (this uh, this sounds like Amy's story a bit, and I'm just realizing this... anyway revenge). The act of wearing his kimono as a cape both adds to the contemporary sukeban visuals, and also, as ironic as it may be, show's that he's got her back (ooooooooh pun).
Anyway I hope they kill her romantic attraction to her master and push the parental one, as it'd make a lot better story since she's younger :)
Now her shoes, I don't like them, the rest of her design is an amazing homage to 70's, 80's and contemporary Japanese femme based media, and then there's the shoes. These four to six inch drag queen heels that have no basis in Japanese fashion, and (from experience) are fucking hard to walk in. On top of all this because they're chunky they don't even elongate her legs or add to her design. She should be wearing geta, she's always had geta before, why change this it does nothing, it's disjointed, it takes away from her design (if anyone can find sources on these shoes ANYTHING please let me know to ease my pain). The only remissible part of the shoes is the traditional way they are attached to her feet. I hate them.
TL;DR (closing words): Setsuka's new design is overall incredibly successful and stays true to her original concepts of classic Japanese media, while bringing in the fact that she is younger in a strong and meaningful way, the added layers of story-telling in her hair and master's kimono also give a good look into her character, and her shoes are terrible.
Edit: u/toymanjr31 has pointed out the east vs. west design concept present in Setsuka as well that I didn't really touch on, while this does explain the shoes I still have an internal bias against them.

FBE Final Stand - 2020 Battle of Los Angeles - Stage 3

To begin, let’s set the mood.
“It was the hottest weekend of the year, figuratively and literally. But we have air conditioning now! We hope you join us in the pleasures of modern heat control, and also some wrestling.”
Excalibur and returning Chuck Taylor will commentate for us tonight, as we continue to witness the best wrestling on the planet. Welcome to:
PWG - 2020 Battle of Los Angeles - Stage 3
Match 1 - Brody King vs. Chris Ridgeway - Block A Quarter-Final Match
It’s a sad day, as it’s the last night of the Battle of Los Angeles. All good things come to an end, but because we’re so nice - you’ve got 12 matches before it’s a wrap. Due to the sheer number of matches we have to get through, some of these will be shorter than the first round ones. However, all these wrestlers are still going to give it their all. We start off with one that’s set to be intense as fuck, as the two hardest men in PWG fight. Big bad lad Brody King takes on fellow big bad lad Chris Ridgeway. They’ve both got a lot of tattoos, both got very stiff kicks, and both have some connection to Marty Scurll. Only real difference when you break it down is one has a funny scouser accent. Ridgeway and Brody skip the handshake portion, after King shoulder barges Chris entering the ring.
KING THEN ATTACKS RIDGEWAY BEFORE THE BELL!! He elbows him in the back of the head, and starts to lay them in. He takes advantage of the fact Ridgeway was wrestling yesterday and he wasn’t. KING THEN HITS A BELLY TO BACK SUPLEX!! Chris thuds off the canvas, whacking his back and bouncing on impact. Ridgeway gets back up, and CATCHES KING WITH A SWITCHBLADE KICK BEFORE KING CAN HIT HIM!! RIDGEWAY THEN HITS A PELE KICK!! Brody crumples down, and now Ridgeway is the one striking elbows. Brody whacks his head off the mat each time. These guys have choose the body part they are going for and it is brutal already. Chris then lifts him up for a BIG BOOT TO THE HEAD!! HE FOLLOWS WITH A GERMAN SUPLEX!!! 1............2.............KICK OUT!!!!!!
King gets up AND HITS A ROARING ELBOW TO KEEP CHRIS DOWN!! HE GOES FOR A PILEDRIVER BUT RIDGEWAY GETS OUT AND HITS A ROARING ELBOW HIMSELF!! HE HITS ANOTHER BUT SO DOES KING!! Brody then hits a CAPOEIRA KICK!! He grabs the wrist of Ridgeway, and double springboard for a JAPANESE ARM DRAG!! HE THEN RUNS FOR A CROSSBODY!! RIDGEWAY HITS A FALLAWAY SLAM!! HE THEN RUNS THE ROPES WITH A DROPKICK TO THR HEAD!! King rolls outside, and Chris follows suit. He then chops him repeatedly for good effect. He slaps Brody up until his skin goes red, and he seems contempt. BRODY THEN SNATCHES HIM WITH A SHOULDER TACKLE INTO THE APRON!! He runs inside and then dives with a TOPE CON HILO!! KING LANDS AND HITS A SNAP SUPLEX ONTO THE FLOOR!!!
King throws him back inside, and spits on him multiple times to assert dominance. He keeps going til his mouth his dry. “We’re in LA anyone got some water?” he asks. CHRIS THEN FROM BEHIND GOES TO APPLY THE SLEEPER HOLD!! KING SLIDES OUT AND GOES FOR A BIG BOOT!! RIDGEWAY LIGHTS HIM UP WITH A CHOP!! RIDGEWAY THEN HEADS TO THE TURNBUCKLE AND FLIES WITH A CORKSCREW EUROPEAN UPPERCUT!! HE’S MET BY A BIG KNEE!! HE HITS AN ELBOW TO THE HEAD OF RIDGEWAY!! He Irish whips him, and then HITS A POP-UP BACKDROP INTO AN ELBOW STRIKE!! 1.............2...........KICK OUT!!!!! KING LIFTS RIDGEWAY FOR AN ALL SEEING EYE!! RIDGEWAY GETS OUT AND HITS A KAMIGOYE!!!
RIDGEWAY GOES FOR AN OLYMIC SLAM!! KING LANDS ON HIS FEET AND HITS A BICYCLE KICK!! RIDGEWAY THEN HITS A BIG BOOT TO THE HEAD!! HE FOLLOWS WITH A NORTHERN LIGHTS SUPLEX!!! 1..............2..............BRODY KICKS OUT!!!! BRODY THEN GOES FOR A BICYCLE KNEE!! RIDGEWAY HITS ONE AT THE SAME TIME AND THEY DOUBLE DOWN!! Match 2 - AR Fox vs. Jonathan Gresham - Block A Quarter-Final Match
It’s a contrast of styles in many ways here in this one, however both guys do share their similarities. Both are well versed in high flying, but in different aspects. Gresham has those beautiful 630’s and 450’s and other degree based dives, meanwhile Fox describes his moveset as him being a weapon - and thus he uses himself to attack his enemies. This is seen in his way of diving, and also by his general aura. He’s no nonsense tough guy, who is an athletic freak that can and will fly higher than you. This is also where I will put my: someone please sign AR Fox he’s really good and cool and deserves it. AEW have a big roster but he can slot into Eddie Kingston’s stable well I think. Anyways, back to this match. They both enter with determination in their eyes to make it to semis and get out the blocks, but first they have to get through each other.
They start with a classic collar and elbow. After shifting control, Gresham gets into a headlock. He Irish whips Fox out to the ropes, who rebounds but is caught with a shoulder block. Gresham then drops and gets him in another headlock, which he gets into a headscissors. Fox escapes and they’re back to their feet. Their forearms hit off one another, and then they enter another collar and elbow. This time Fox slips behind into a waistlock, and slams him down won’t a Belly to Back! Then Fox gets in his first headlock. Eventually he’s had enough and lifts him up for a CYCLONE BOMB!! HE THEN HITS A DUTCHMAN’S BOOT!! GRESHAM REBOUNDS WITH A CLOTHESLINE AFTER RUNNING THE ROPES!! They then head back down to the mat again. This is where Gresham applies an early Octopus Hold. Fox lifts himself out and hits a KNEE LIFT!!
Fox and Gresham then double down with stereo big boots. No man here can gain the upper hand, it’s pretty even contest through their feeling out. Fox eventually gets up and slaps Gresham, BEFORE HITTING A SLINGBLADE!! He then lifts Gresham up, BUT IS HIT BY A BACKBODY DROP!! Fox laughs it up, and then runs the ropes. Gresham keeps lying flat so he runs over him. Gresham then gets up and leapfrogs a running Fox, who rolls under. Gresham handsprings but is caught in a Sleeper position!! GRESHAM THEN BACKFLIPS INTO A COVER!!! 1............2...........KICK OUT!!!! GREHAM PICKS HIM UP AND IRISH WHIPS FOX!! FOX THEN IS HIT BY A TITL-A-WHIRL BACKBREAKER!! HE THEN HITS A INVERTED HEADLOCK TWISTING ELBOW DROP!!! Fox pulls himself up by the ropes, AND HITS A SPRINGBOARD CODEBREAKER!!
Fox lifts him up and starts to smack his back. HE THEN GOES FOR A GUTWRENCH ATTACK!! GRESHAM FLIPS UPWARDS AND HITS A HURRICANERANA!! HE THEN HITS A FLYING FOREARM SMASH!! He lands in a Lou Thesz Press, and starts to lay in punches and elbows. He pulls Gresham up and SMACKS HIM DOWN WITH AN ELBOW STRIKE!!! Fox rolls out, but JONATHAN THEN HITS A TOPE SUICIDA TO THE OUTSIDE!! He takes him to the apron and they start to trade elbows. GRESHAM THEN HITS AN AIR RAID CRASH ONTO THE APRON!!! He taunts Fox while he lays dead, holding the ropes open with his legs and fucking around the audience. HE THEN DEOSNT EXPECT A TOPE CON HILO OVER THE RING POST!! Fox dusts off his hands, this time he’s the one doing the taunting.
Fox brings him inside and HITS A LO MEIN PAIN!!! 1.............2............KICK OUT!!!! GRESHAM GETS UP AND RUNS THE ROPES BUT IS CAUGHT BY A KICKFLIP DIVE!!! FOX THEN WRENCHES THE ARM IN A TIGHT SUBMISSION HOLD!! GRESHAM ROLLS BACK AND TRIES FOR AN OCTOPUS!! BUT FOX HITS AN AIR RAID CRASH NECKBREAKER!! Fox then continues to target the arm with some more kicks. HE BIG BOOTS THE LEFT ARM!! He curls it up and goes to hit the KRUNCH ON IT!! GRESHAM PUTS UP HIS KNEES AND APPLIES A REAR NAKED CHOKE!! HE ADDS A BODYSCISSORS ONTO THE HOLD!! FOX STRUGGLES TO ESCAPE!! HE ROLLS OUT, BUT THEN GRESHAM APPLIES AN OCTOPUS HOLD!! HE GROUNDS IT AND KEEPS THE HOLD APPLIED!!! FOX TAPS OUT!! HE TAPS OUT!! HE TAPS OUT!!
Jonathan Gresham defeats AR Fox (13:13)

So now we know what our Block A Semi-Final looks like in the form of Jonathan Gresham vs. Chris Ridgeway, we now have to find our Block B semi-final. Well this is where we start, and we have a big ass hoss fight coming. Two big lads who bump meat and throw meat around fighting, sign me the fuck up. Hero last night was doing commentary for us, but now he’s up in the ring wrestling. Jeff Cobb and Chris Hero both come out in half zips, and then zip them down to their singlets/trunks. These are two tough son of bitches, who can knock you the hell out - and so they’re going to try and do just that. We get some “Chris is gonna kill you” chants, duelled by “He’s Got Olympic Medals clap - clap - clap” chants. They then finally go for each other.

HE RUNS THE ROPES AND GOES FOR ANOTHER KICK BUT COBB THEN HITS A SHOULDER BLOCK!! COBB AND HERO BOTH GO FOR BELLY TO BELLY’S!! They then end up hugging. “No homo bro” Hero says. “Nah don’t worry buddy, I’m wearing socks” Cobb tells him to reassure Chris. HE THEN RUNS THE ROPES AND HITS A REVERSE ELBOW INTO THE CORNER!! JEFF THEN SWINGS OVER INTO A MONKEY FLIP AND FOLLOWS WITH A DEADLIFT BELLY TO BELLY SUPLEX!!! 1............2............KICK OUT!!!!!!
They head out to the crowd and start to fight out there. Cobb pushes him around with some shoves, BUT HERO RESPONDS WITH A SLAP!! COBB THEN RUNS INTO A BICYCLE KNEE!! Hero lays in shots to the back, smacking him with a closed fist repeatedly to try for a PILEDRIVER ONTO THE FLOOR!!! Jeff quickly escapes and HITS A BIG BOOT!! HE FOLLOWS WITH ANOTHER!! HE GOES FOR A RUNNING HEADBUTT, BUT HERO MOVES AND HE FLIES INTO AN EXPOSED CHAIR!!! Hero grabs him by the beard and takes him to the apron. There they trade shots, shouting in pure manliness. HERO WITH AN OVERHEAD CHOP!! COBB WITH A KNIFE-EDGE!! They repeat that exchange three times, UNTIL COBB HITS HERO WITH A CHOKESLAM ONTO THE APRON!! He jumps off with the move, and then pushes Chris back in before he rolls out.
Cobb THEN BEGINS TO HIT THE BAM-BAM’S!! HE GRABS HIM WITN A GUTWRENCH SUPLEX!! HE FOLLOWS BY ANOTHER!! HE THEN HITS THE THIRD AND FINAL!! 1............2..........KICK OUT BY CHRIS!! Hero gets up and runs the ropes, hitting a RIPCORD ROLLING ELBOW!! HE THEN HITS A CRAVATE BUSTER!! HE FOLLOWS WITH THE TRACY SMOTHERS!! HE THEN GOES TO LIFT COBB FOR A CRASH LANDING!! COBB ESCAPES AND HITS A BIG LARIAT!! HERO GETS UP AND HITS THE HANGMAN’S CLUTCH II!!! He takes Jeff to the corner, where he lays in multiple forearms. Over, and over, and over, and over. HE THEN RUNS FROM THE OPPOSITE CORNER WITH A HERO SIDEKICK!!! He takes Cobb to the apron now, AND HITS A HERO STOMP ONTO THE APRON!!!!!! Cobb’s ribs are crushed under impact.

Match 11 - Team Cassidy (Orange Cassidy, AR Fox, Cara Noir, Jacob Fatu and Laredo Kid) vs. Team Suzuki (Minoru Suzuki, Chris Bey, Tony Deppen and The Lucha Bros) - Ten-man Tag Team Match
In this non-corona world, Orange Cassidy vs. Minoru Suzuki would of happened. Well, this is the rematch we’ve all been waiting for. Everyone gets a chance to strut their stuff as commentary talks about how different these guys are. Bey gets scared of Fatu, so Fénix tags in and does some acrobats that scare off Fatu. Fatu looks like a giant next to the rest of the guys in this match. Team Cassidy all hype up for big moves, charging them up to hit. When all of a sudden - the lights dim. Then all of a sudden, the greatest tune of Bruno Mars - Uptown Funk starts playing! Everyone then takes turns breakdancing, jamming out until it’s just Suzuki left. MINORU THEN BUSTS A JIG HERE IN PWG!! The fans go ecstatic as do the wrestlers. He then goes on a killing spree. He body slams everyone on the opposing team. After some dives outside, Fatu is left alone and does a massive Spaceman Plancha to the outside. Shortly after, everyone kicks everyone else in the dick. Then the match goes into slow motion with the crowd, competitors, referees and commentary all playing along. SUZUKI THEN ENDS IT WITH A GOTCH-STYLE OUT OF NOWHERE!! 1...........2..........3!!!!
Team Suzuki defeats Team Cassidy (22:51)
Match 12 - Jonathan Gresham vs. Chris Hero vs. Dragon Lee - Battle of Los Angeles Finals
It all comes to this, the endgame has come. We’ve built to this moment over 22 matches, the best wrestlers in the world doing exactly what they do best, be the best wrestlers in the world. But now, it’s all coming to an end. We will crown the winner of the 2020 Battle of Los Angeles right here. That man will win the most prestigious tournament in independent wrestling, and then go on to challenge for the PWG World Championship. But first, they need to win the match. Which one will it be? Three very viable contenders. We saw Jonathan Gresham win his semi-final match against Chris Ridgeway by cheating, and we saw Dragon Lee and Darby Allin have a crazy war. Chris Hero then dismantled Andrew Everett, despite his insistence to not say die. But now we have our three, and they will fight to crown the winner. They all make their entrances, dead set on victory. The bell rings, and it begins.
Chris Hero is sporting Clipper themed attire for the special occasion. The bell rings and he steps outside, allowing Dragon Lee and Jonathan Gresham to fight. They both run the ropes, and start to work around each other. HEADSCISSORS BY DRAGON LEE! GRESHAM FLIPS OUT AND GOES FOR A MONKEY FLIP!! LEE FLIPS OUT AND ARM DRAGS GRESHAM INTO THE ROPES, WHO REBOUNDS WITH HIS OWN ARM DRAG!!! THEY BOTH THROW FOREARMS THAT COLLIDE!! GRESHAM GOES FOR A NORTHERN LIGHTS, BUT LEE FLIPS OUT AND HITS A NECKBREAKER!! HE THEN GOES FOR A GERMAN SUPLEX!! JONATHAN CAN’T ESCAPE!! HE CONNECTS!!! 1........2......KICK OUT!! GRESHAM THEN RUNS THE ROPES AND HITS A CROSSBODY!! DRAGON LEE CATCHES AND HITS A FALLAWAY SLAM!! HE THEN DIVES OUTSIDE WITH A TOPE CON HILO TO CHRIS HERO!!
Hero wasn’t going to just get to watch, nah nah. Dragon Lee was inserting him into this whether he wanted to or not. Dragon Lee then uppercuts Hero, trying to get him back inside. “I’ll show you uppercuts.” Hero says BEFORE NAILING HIS OWN!! HE FOLLOWS WITH ANOTHER ONE!!! ANOTHER!! HE THROWS DRAGON LEE INSIDE AND LAYS IN A LOU THESZ PRESS!! TEN PUNCHES BEFORE HE LETS GO!! He shouts at the audience in a primal roar, BEFORE TURNING AROUND TO A SHOTGUN DROPKICK FROM GRESHAM!! GRESHAM FOLLOWS WITH ANOTHER SHOTGUN DROPKICK!!! HE THEN STARTS TO UNLEASH CHOPS AND FOREARMS IN THE CORNER!! IT TURNS INTO A VIOLENCE PARTY!! GRESHAM MAKES SUPER DRAGON PROUD!!! He lets go eventually, AND THEN RUNS UP FOR A YAKUZA KICK!! HERO COUNTERS WITH A MAFIA KICK!!!
Dragon Lee then inserts himself with a SPRINGBOARD CROSSBODY!!! HE CALLS FOR A TITL-A-WHIRL BACKBREAKER!! HE HITS IT!! HERO GOES FOR A CLOTHESLINE BUT HE DUCKS UNDER AND TRIES FOR A GERMAN SUPLEX!! Hero shakes his head disapprovingly, BEFORE TURNING IT INTO A RIPCORD ROLLING ELBOW!! HE HITS A HANGMAN’S CLUTCH III!!! HERO GOES OFF WITH MAFIA KICKS AND ROLLING ELBOWS!! He hits three to each member. DRAGON LEE THEN DIVES ONTO EVERYONE! HE HITS A SPRINGBOARD SHOOTING STAR PRESS TO THE OUTSIDE TO HERO!! HE THEN DIVES BACK INSIDE WITH A CROSSBODY TO GRESHAM!!! GRESHAM THEN IS TAKEN DOWN WITH A DRAGON DRIVER!! HERO COMES IN AND THROWS BOTH GUYS OUT, DIVING INTO THEM BOTH!!
As the match nears the twenty minute mark, it becomes more of the basic triple threat match where one guy is taken out for periods of time, allowing for things to basically become a singles match for a bit. DRAGON LEE MISSES A 450 SPLASH!! HE IS THEN TAKEN DOWN WITH A ELBOW!! Hero gets locked in the Rear Naked Choke, allowing Lee to hit the 450 Splash this time!! He follows with the Dragon Driver!!! 1......2......KICK OUT!! They keep on fighting, until Dragon Lee falls to a HERO’S WELCOME!! 1..............2.............3!!! One man down. That leaves it to Gresham and Hero, who fight for ten more minutes. Then…Brody King comes out. Then, so does Desmond Xavier and Zachary Wentz. THEY THEN TAKE DOWN THE REFEREE!! THEY ALL BEAT UP HERO!! ALLOWING GRESHAM TO HIT A 630 SENTON!!! 1............2.............3!!!!
Jonathan Gresham defeats Chris Hero and Dragon Lee (31:11)
He takes to the mic afterwards, and instead of the big coronation promo the winner usually cuts - he instead simply says “Meet...MOUNT RUSHMORE 3.0!!!”

Hangry struts in the colours of the Russian flag, and twirls, transforming into a polar bear look that looks as if she's skinned a bear herself. "Mother Russia is back..."
Hangry: "I'm Hangry, and I'm the delicious Monarch back in Russia. You'd know me from Season 11 of Virtual Drag Race, where I placed... not so pleasantly. I was disappointed after my season. I spent some time back at home, visiting Russia... and I decided why not apply for something called... Drag Race Asia..." Hangry winks. "My biggest flaw on season 11 was I didn't ENJOY IT. I want to have fun here! I'm here to be out there, dramatic, and enjoy my way to the top."
"Oh, first..." Hangry smiles. "That's a nice feeling..."
Hangry sits on the stool, and purses her lips. "Next!"
Jennie Ulsan in a holographic mini skirt and crop top, with huge heels and a long black wig. "Who's ready to play with FIRE?" She breathes out fire, and Hangry falls off her stool, shocked.
"AHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH!" Hangry yelps.
Jennie Ulsan: "I'm Jennie, and I'm the next Drag Superstar." Jennie winks. "I'm the name in Korea, the dancing diva, and the K-Pop Princess. I'm pretty, I'm gorgeous, and I'm fucking proud of it. Drag is my life, and I'm here to deliver my best... and believe me, it's going to happen."
"Ooooh, Hangry..." Jennie smiles. "Gotta have a returning Queen..."
"I'm sure you're starving." Hangry smirks.
"I actually just ate." Jennie talks out a nail file. "So... I am good."
"I mean..." Hangry looks at Jennie.
"Let's hope there's no lip sync challenge this season, hmm?" Jennie laughs.
Hangry looks awkwardly at Jennie.
Payton Winn walks out in a schoolgirl outfit, a mix of Japanese and British styling in one, covered in various pins and buttons. "I guess i'll be skipping class today!" She grins.
"Someone call the local school, someone's escaped!" Jennie yells.
Payton Winn: "Hiiiiiiiiiiya. My name is Payton Winn, and I'm here to... win!" Payton giggles. "I am 18, and... my voice probably sounds similar if you are on twitch!" Payton laughs. "I am a Vtuber Bio Queen, and... I am a streamer. The... different thing is that... I stream with a 3D avatar. So... for a lot of people, this is the first time seeing the drag persona that exists outside of online... and I promise you, there's much to fall in love with..." Payton smiles. "I hope you enjoy the show."
Payton waves. "Hi everyone!!"
"Hi Lovely." Hangry smiles.
"Hey girl." Jennie grins.
"Jennie Ulsan! And... Hangry!" Payton smiles. "Oh, this is so exciting..."
"What do you do darling?" Hangry looks at Payton.
"Well, I perform, I stream, but this is my first time here, doing it... outside of my bedroom." Payton laughs.
"Oh, so you are a social media Queen...?" Jennie looks at Payton.
"Kinda, but I really live for performing, I just haven't been... doing it yet, outside of my house." Payton grins.
Jennie Ulsan: "So this Queen.... has never performed for real in her life.... and is... on... Virtual. Drag. Race. Hmm.. Work."
Lu Booyah struts in a pink cosplay version of Guan Yinping, along with a huge matching weapon. "Let's make this season fierce, hmm?" She jumps into a split, and Jennie yells. "SICKEEEEEEEEENINGGGGGG!"
Lu Booyah: "I am Lu Booya, and i'm the Pageant Queen Extraordinaire, stylised with Chinese Flair. I come from a family drag artists. Biological Siblings, Cousins and Uncles in my family- all of us are drag artists. Together, we're the Haus of Shu, part of China's... Small, but strong pageant scene. My drag is about the best of the best- and I am that. I'm a performer first and foremost. I love gagging people with a Shu show, and I take inspiration from American Pop Stars- but with my own flair. I know I have a big challenge ahead, representing my Haus... but I feel excited." Lu grins.
"Gagging on this look." Jennie extends her arm. "Jennie Ulsan."
"Lu Booyah." Lu winks.
"So, i'm guessing we have another dancing diva..." Hangry smiles.
"Of course. But I do a lot more too.." Lu grins.
"I'm just happy to see another performer. I know a diva when I see one." Jennie smiles.
"Hmm..." Payton nods.
Payton Winn: "I can perform too..."
Tara walks out covered in long, beautiful robes, reminiscent of a Goddess. "Let's get enlightened, darlings."
"Gorgeous..." Payton grins.
Tara: "I am Tara, and I am truly, honestly, the Goddess of Drag. I have been doing drag for 10 years, and I am from Bangkok, Thailand. My drag is class, elegance, decadent... and sexy. I'm known for my drag being just... quality. You don't see Tara in weak clothing. I'm proud to be expensive... and unattainable."
Tara struts in, smiling. "Ahh...." She looks straight into the mirror.
"Hey girl!" Hangry smiles.
"Someone's not a big talker..." Lu looks at Jennie, who laughs.
"Ahhh..." Tara smiles. "Gotta ensure my hair is perfect..."
"So-" Payton starts.
"One moment, i'm preparing." Tara turns around. "You may speak now."
Hangry: "Uhm, you aren't a Queen, girl. You may speak?"
"Haha, all good..." Payton smiles.
Amanda Cherries smiles as she shines entering the werkroom, dressed in a black and white coat. She twirls, revealing a pastel rainbow dress, along with a bright red wig that nearly hit the floor. "Oh, I'm here!"
Amanda Cherries: "I am Amanda Cherries, and I am here to make it." Amanda smiles. "I am from a Small Town in China, and drag has allowed me to transform myself. Amanda is colorful, dramatic- big lips, vibrant eyeshadow, ditzy, smiley and... that girl who moves to a big city to meet her dreams? That's me. I know I can do it. I work hard, I know I am skilled, and... I'm ready for the world to meet me." Amanda grins.
"Oh my, this place is BEAUTIFUL!" Amanda twirls around. "I think I'm getting a headache with all of this drag..."
"I know a Chinese Accent when I hear one." Lu smiles. "Lu Booyah."
"Amanda Cherries!" Amanda grins.
"What do you do?" Tara looks at Amanda.
"I sew, I create, I can..." Amanda looks at Tara's outfit. "Something like that, I can do in a minute!"
"I'm sure you think you can." Tara laughs.
Holly B struts in a barong made reminiscent of the Philippine Eagle. "Let's get in... and fly, fly, fly..." Holly smiles.
Holly B: "My name is Holly B, and I am the Filipino Activists Super Queen, currently living in Singapore. Holly is passionate, and has lots of thoughts. She is the expression of leftist politics in the form of a gay, talkative and confident Filipino Drag Queen." Holly smiles. "I am proud to say I am someone who loves to speak. I think Drag is revolutionary- it is the purest form of Queer expression, and for me, if your drag doesn't have meaning... I don't understand it."
"Oh, this is beautiful..." Amanda smiles at Holly.
"Welcome!" Lu grins. "Your name?"
"Holly B. I'm an activist hostess galore..." Holly grins.
"Oh, activism..." Jennie shrugs. "It's all the same in the end, right?"
"Not really, no." Holly eyes Jennie.
Jennie shrugs.
"Drag Race Asia..." Tillie Bloody Red works out covered in Tattoos in a leather gown, looking... fierce. "Needs some flavour." She smirks.
Tillie Bloody Red: "I'm Tillie Bloody red, and I bring flavour to the city of Bangkok, Thailand." Tille smirks. "I am originally from Japan, from a mixed Indian and Japanese family. I'm born from a family of fierce... warriors." Tillie laughs. "My drag is tough. Yakuza inspired, horror, avante garde... all form a part of Tillie. I don't dance around the stage giving moves, I entrance a room and make them gasp. That's Tillie."
"Oh, Tillie." Tara smirks. "Interesting to see you."
"Hmm..." Tillie eyes Tara. "Lovely to see you."
Tillie: "Tara is known for being a Diva. Let's see how she goes with all her resources, her support network... taken away."
"So, the first season of Drag Race Asia..." Hangry smiles. "This is so-
Let's get sickening!
"Omg." Payton smiles.
Hello my lucky 8...
IT'S SOY SEASON, AND WE'RE HERE...
To do the thing I don't do well.
HONESTLY.
WHOOPS.
BYE!
"The first vague lip-stick message..." Jennie smiles.
Soy excited!
Honey Soy Sickening struts out, smiling.
Oh hey my first 8...
Everyone yelps in joy.
Welcome to Virtual Drag Race Asia! I've handpicked the best Drag Monarch's in Asia to see who will be Asia's FIRST Drag Superstar... and I've decided, why not split it up?
"Oh my god, she's gonna split us in half for the premiere?" Jennie whisper to Lu.
"I think we've been split already." Payton grins.
"Ohhhhh...." Jennie nods.
Jennie Ulsan: "I'm confused."
The 8 of you are here for our first half of the premiere... and next week, 7 other Monarch's will enter the werkroom... and then our two groups will meet. We're giving everyone the OPPORTUNITY TO SHINE!
Holly jumps in joy.
For our first Maxi Challenge, we're putting together a girl group. You 8 will be creating your own verse, working together on Choreography... then performing on the main stage presenting your Verse in your fierce K-Pop inspired girl groups!
Jennie looks practically ready to scream, as does Payton and Lu.
Lu Booyah: "Oh... YES. This is a sign from above, because I KNOW how to perform. I see a few threats... but I know I can do this."
~
The Queens prepare for the episode by practicing Choreography.
"So, I was thinking of a 1, 2... step..." Lu twirls, hits a split, and then backflips.
"Christ." Tillie jumps.
"1, 2 step...?" Jennie looks confused.
"Girl, you're a dancer." Lu looks at Jennie.
"I don't count. I just vibe." Jennie shrugs and does a death drop.
"I live for that!" Lu looks at Jennie. "I think i'm stanning."
"I think I am too..." Jennie grins.
"So... we just do..." Payton perfectly captures Lu's choreography.
"Woah." Amanda smiles.
"You can dance, can't you..." Hangry smiles at Payton.
"I really do live for performing." Payton nods.
Jennie Ulsan: "This Queen... is fiercer than I first gave her. Hmmm... I gotta watch out for this one.."
"Let me just say, this is giving me a headache? Can I sit?" Tara sighs.
"I mean, we're preparing for this challenge..." Tillie says.
"I just need a moment." Tara gestures the cameraman. "Can I get a glass of water...?"
"I'm just going to continue." Lu says.
"Sure, go ahead." Tara smiles. "I just need to relax..."
"I don't like a Diva, episode one." Tillie shakes her head, whispering under her breath.
"WATER PLEASE!" Tara gestures again.
~
As they get ready, Tillie chats with Holly and Amanda.
"So, you're originally from Japan?" Holly smiles at Tillie.
"Yup. My family... literally were from the Yakuza." Tillie laughs.
"Oh, really?" Amanda looks shocked.
"They colloquially referred to us as the Spice Trade, as my family were from Southern India. Lived in wealth..." Tille sighs. "Until they got imprisoned. Thrown out on my butt. Had to run off to Bangkok... and I realised the life I was living. I worked my way up again... and I found drag." Tillie smiles.
"The power of drag." Holly nods. "I come from a similar scenario. My family came from wealth, and I didn't realise until I educated myself... there was a lack of consciousness within me. I realised my family... was prejudiced.. and I was being too."
"Often comes with the money." Tillie nods.
"I ended up moving to Singapore. I spoke too much perhaps about my topics... but I still feel so dedicated... so necessary to speaking about what's going on in the Philippines." Holly shrugs. "Someone has too."
"I think the reality is so many of us have had to leave their hometowns, or find new lives... because of so many factors." Amanda nods. "I was the same. But there was one thing that puts us together... Drag!"
"To Drag!" Holly smiles and raises her lipstick.

FBE Final Stand - Book the 2020 Battle of Los Angeles - Stage 1

So finally, we get to the Battle of Los,Angeles. Let’s set the mood as we gather around the fire.
“It was the hottest weekend of the year, figuratively and literally. But we have air conditioning now! We hope you join us in the pleasures of modern heat control, and also some wrestling.”
Excalibur and Joey Janela will commentate for us over the night, as we witness the best wrestling on the planet. And it all begins with:
PWG - 2020 Battle of Los Angeles - Stage 1
Match 1 - Rey Fénix vs. Black Taurus
To start the night we have two of the hottest luchadors in the world going at it - it’s a god damn AAA invasion. Fénix and Taurus both receive sizeable reactions, Taurus power walking his way down while Fénix punches the air and psyches the crowd up. He takes off his hoodie and throws it away, clapping for the crowd to get louder. The fans pound the mat before anything even happens. Our ring announcer for the evening introduces Fénix as “Mexican Dynamite”. This is the first time these two have competed one-on-one together so it’s sure to impress. Fénix does the Napoleon Mexican Dynamite dance first before TAURUS PULLS HIM IN!
They run the ropes and capitalise off all this energy they have. They’re fiery and hungry. Fénix runs under an elbow strike attempt and slides out the ring, running into the crowds seats and back in to build momentum for a-CLOTHESLINE FROM TAURUS INTERCEPTS!! Fénix is lifted up and kicks himself free of a hold, before trying a Head Scissors that’s shoved down. Taurus then shows him how’s it’s done which Fénix evades, landing on his feet. He spins his hand around before beginning a TITL-A-WHIRL HEADSCISSORS!! He’s gets about 5 full rotations in before finally executing the move. Taurus flies across the ring at the impact and now we’re getting ready. Taurus runs forward with a SINGLE-LEG DROPKICK TO THE CORNER!!
He copies Fénix Springboard Spin Kick in the corner and goes for an Irish whip for follow, but FÉNIX FLIPS HIMSELF FORWARD AND CONNECTS A MONKEY FLIP!! DOUBLE SPRINGBOARD FRONT MISSILE DROPKICK BY FÉNIX!! Taurus falls into the corner where’s he hit by the REAL Springboard Corner Spin Kick. He follows with a Snapmare before he runs the ropes for a Crossbody to a knelt Taurus. Taurus rolls through into a FALLAWAY SLAM!! Fénix looks to roll outside but Taurus catches him on the apron. Rey Horus is already in the ring by the time we reach his match, and then silence. The lights one by one go, and everyone looks around for a sign. Horus is pushed to the mat, and when he tries to get up - HERO BUSTS OUT HIS FIRST CRAVATE SUPLEX!!! That receives an even louder pop. Rey Horus slides under another and clutches the waist. Match 3 - Jonathan Gresham vs. Tony Deppen
With Block B and Block C matches done, we move onto Block A. Deppen comes out with an American flag and a beer, and waves it around as he enters. Jonathan Gresham wears his usual pirate octopus headpiece meanwhile. It starts with Deppen waving his flag out in the crowd. He then hears “Enter Sandman” from a distance start playing, and he runs off. HE THEN COMES BACK OUT WITH THE FLAG POLE AND THE BEER!! The fans sing along as he smashes the beer over his head, and carries the pole like a kendo stick. Jonathan Gresham meanwhile is all business and watches on with a smirk. We get duelling “Gres-ham” - “Dep-pen” chants, as they encourage their own cause. Eventually they get into a collar and elbow and the bout begins.
They swing back and forth until Deppen let’s go and SLAPS GERSHAM!! Deppen kicks him in the head and THROWS AN ELBOW STRIKE!! Despite seemingly taking this less seriously, Tony delivers some stiff shots early. The Octopus gets up and his hit by a KNIFE-EDGE CHOP!! Gresham is winded on that and falls to his knees. Jonathan Gresham defeats Tony Deppen (18:09)
Match 4 - The Ghost Soldiers (El Phantasmo and Taiji Ishimori) vs. Rush and Dragon Lee
Rush and Dragon Lee are real life brothers, for those unaware. They teamed together in Mexico for a while but haven’t really done the act in America. In Konnan’s promotion, The Crash, they hosted a big event centred around Lucha Bros vs. Lucha Bros - that being Fénix and Penta vs. Rush and Lee. Since BOLA sprinkle in these tag matches featuring hybrid teams to have some fun matches in-between the tournament ones, I thought it’d be cool to have them team together here. Then the others in the match are, The Ghost Soldiers, NJPW’s top Junior Heavyweight Tag Team that kick so much ass and I love. Ishimori has competed in PWG, having an especially good match against Bandido, meanwhile El Phantasmo is a newcomer to PWG. So he will debut like many before him, in the Battle of Los Angeles.
The crowd love everyone of them, with Ishimori and Rush having a completion of “you think YOU have a cool entrance mask?” With Ishimori wearing his bone solider while Rush wears his white bulll, or “El Toro Blanco” one. Phantasmo has glow-in-the-dark gear as per usual, and slides out to strip from him. HE’S THEN HIT BY A TOPE CON HILO BY RUSH STRAIGHT OFF THE BAT!! Ishimori goes for a HEADSCISSORS ON DRAGON LEE! LEE CATCHES HIM WITH A GUTWRENCH SUPLEX!! He then takes him to the apron, AND FLIES OVER WITH A SUNSET FLIP!! RUSH COMBOS WITH A ROUNDHOUSE KICK MIDAIR!! Rush takes Phantasmo into the ring. He Irish whips him and lands a Drop Toehold, which LEE FOLLOWS WITH A SPRINGBOARD LEG DROP!! Rush then holds him in place for a MISSILE DROPKICK TO THE REAR FROM LEE!!
Lee slides out to let Rush do some one on one. Rush goes for an Arm Drag but Phantasmo flips out of it and lands on the turnbuckles. HE THEN ROPE WALKS INTO HIS OWN ARM DRAG!! Rush then runs into a Superkick! ISHIMORI SLIDES IN AND GOES FOR A SUPERSTAR ELBOWI!! RUSH CATCHES AND APPLIES EL AMARRE!! PHANTASMO BREAKS IT UP WITH A ROPE WALK ASAI MOONSAULT!! Phantasmo and Ishimori then call for a double team. They both climb opposite corners. ISHIMORI HITS A 450 SPLASH!! He then taunts the crowd while Phantasmo prepares for his dive. He looks for a Double Springboard attack, BUT HES CAUGHT BY A SPRINGBOARD HURRICANERANA BY DRAGON LEE!! PHANTASMO FLIES INTO ISHIMORI!! Lee and Rush then do stereo Irish whips, WHICH ARE REVERSED INTO STEREO TORNADO DDTS!! 1..............2..............KICK OUT!!!!
Ishimori and Rush now go at it. They have a battle of chops, trading shots until they both fall. THEY BOTH KIP UP AND GO FOR ARM DRAGS!! ISHIMORI HITS A MEXICAN ROLL!! RUSH ESCAPES AND HITS A DROPKICK TO THE KNEES!! HE THEN FLIES WITH A SENTON!! 1.......2......ISHIMORI ROLLS OUT INTO A SAKUACHI!!! 1........2........RUSH KICKS OUT AND GOES FOR THE RUSH DRIVER!! ISHIMORI SPINS OUT AND THEY DOUBLE DOWN WITH STEREO SUPERKICKS!! They both fall and roll out. This means incomes Dragón Lee and El Phantasmo. Dragon Lee does a TRIPLE SPRINGBOARD just to enter, but as he’s falling HE’S HIT WITH A MISSILE DROPKICK MIDAIR!! PHANTASMO GOES FOR A STANDING MOONSAULT!! HE CONNECTS AND TRIES A CR II!! DRAGON LEE FLIPS OUT AND HITS A GERMAN SUPLEX!! Phantasmo flies across the ring and lands in the corner. Lee gets up and starts to walk towards.
Dragon Lee and Phantasmo both look for Irish whips, and so both run for the ropes. Instead of hitting them, THEY BOTH HIT TOPE CON HILOS TO THEIR OPPOSITE OPPONENT!! Phantasmo to Rush and Lee to Ishimori. Dragon Lee rolls back inside to recover, but sees Phantasmo pulling himself up by the apron. HE THEN RUNS FORWARD AND HITS A RUNNING FRANKENSTEINER, OVER THE ROPES AND ONTO THE APRON!! Lee rolls back inside where he meets The Bone Solider. They trade knees until Lee goes for a Bicycle One, but Ishimori dodges. Rush then slides in behind and grabs Ishimori from behind. He holds him in place in a Full Nelson while Lee readies for an attack. He signals to the crowd, but meanwhile Ishimori swaps positions with Rush! LEE BICYCLE KNEES RUSH!! ISHIMORI HITS A TELARAÑA ON RUSH!! HE DUCKS A CLOTHESLINE AND HITS A BLOODY CROSS ON LEE!!
Phantasmo wanders up the ropes, AND HITS A SENTON BOMB ON RUSH!! HE IMMEDIATELY FOLLOWS WITH A DOUBLE JUMP MOONSAULT ON LEE!! They both cover, 1.......2.......KICK OUT!!! The Ghost Soldiers then decide to work over Rush. Phantasmo rolls him up, but he rolls out. HE THEN WALKS INTO A HANDSPRING ENZIGURI FROM ISHIMORI!! Phantasmo then calls for something, and rope walks. HE HITS A SPRINGBOARD ENZIGURI!! He then runs the ropes and begins a Headscissors, and begins to rotate and rotate until he realises. RUSH THEN WALKS INTO A REVOLUCION, BUT HE ESCAPES!! RUSH DRIVER!!! Phantasmo then runs up and ARM DRAG!! HE HITS A CORNER SHOTGUN DROPKICK!! He climbs up for La Lanza, where he’s joined by his brother. LEE WITH A 450 SPLASH AND RUSH WITH LA LANZA!!
They lift them up and look to end it with stereo finishers. Rush with the Rush Driver, and Lee with Desnucadaro. BOTH MOVES ARE FLIPPED OUT OF!! STEREO BACK BODY DROPS!! Phantasmo Superkicks Lee out the ring, and that leaves Rush prone. Ishimori goes to one corner and Phantasmo the other. PHANTASMO HITS A FROGSPLASH!! 1.............2...........KICK OUT!!!!!!! Ishimori sees the kick out and goes for Lee on the outside instead, AND HITS SUPERSTAR QUEBRADA!!! Ishimori and Lee both fall, but get up soon after. Lee pushes Ishimori off him and goes back to the ring. Ishimori and Phantasmo both group up, and Rush gains his composure in the corner. LEE THEN DIVES OFF RUSH’S SHOULDERS WITH A TOPE CON HILO!! 1..............2............KICK OUT!!!!! HE THEN LIFTS PHANTASMO INTO A DRAGON DRIVER!!!! 1............2.............3!!!!!!!!!
Rush and Dragon Lee defeat The Ghost Soldiers (15:46)
Match 5 - Alex Zayne vs. Darby Allin - Block C First Round Match
Darby Allin and Alex Zayne up next, and both guys enter out to sizeable pops. They wrestle similar high risk styles so everyone understands this will be a pure popcorn match. Zayne tells Darby “how’s that TNT money?”, a reference to his pursuit of the TNT Championship. The fans then chant A-E-Dub while Allin leans in the corner, stone faced. He takes off his cardigan and throws it into the crowd, while Zayne waits for him. It then begins. They get in a lock up but it’s short lasting, as Allin quickly rolls back in an O’Connor Roll! Zayne kicks out and turns into a SPRINGBOARD CORKSCREW CROSSBODY!! Zayne falls from his seated position, and Allin covers again, ANOTHER KICKOUT!! Zayne gets himself up and goes to Tilt-a-Whirl Allin, WHO COUNTERS WITH A STANDING DIAMOND DUST!! He then runs the ropes and is caught with a JUMPING LANZA TO THE CHEST!!
Zayne lifts him for a Pumphandle attack, possibly the Taco Driver, but ALLIN HITS A TORNADO DDT!! Allin then applies his signature sick looking Fujiwara Armbar! Allin climbs up the ropes and looks for a COFFIN DROP!! SUPERKICK TO THE REAR BY ZAYNE!! Allin then is prone to a AVALANCHE DRAGON RANA!!! He crashes down and Zayne climbs up. HE MISSES A CRUNCH WRAP!! ALLIN ROLLS HIM UP IN A SCHOOL BOY!! KICKOUT!! Zayne gets up in the corner as the fans clap loudly. HE GOES FOR A BAJA BLAST!! ALLIN COUNTERS INTO THE LAST SUPPER!! Zayne lifts himself out with a DRAGON SCREW!! He goes for an Electric Chair Attack, BUT ALLIN FLIPS BACK WITH A INVERTED STUNNER!! HE HITS A SPRINGBOARD MOONSAULT!! Once they’re back up Zayne hits a Step-up Headscissors to knock him down, AND FOLLOWS WITH A PELE LOCOS!! HE FOLLOWS WITH A SHELL BREAKER KNEE!! He throws Allin out and hits a TOPE CON GIRO TO THE OUTSIDE!!
Now on the floor, both guys lay down in pain. Zayne is up though and panders to the fans. He takes Allin back inside and goes for a chop, BUT ALLIN HITS A HEADBUTT!! Darby then kicks him across the head! HE HITS A SPIN KICK TO THE HEAD!! Zayne falls to the mat on that one. Allin punches down on his back to set up for a SPRINGBOARD BACKSPLASH!! Match 6 - Jeff Cobb vs. Jacob Fatu - Block B First Round Match
Prior to BOLA, we have “Jonathan’s Bizzare Adventure.” On that card sees Jacob Fatu make his PWG debut, where he wrestles a competitive bout against also debuting Chris Ridgeway. Fatu wins that one after a very hard hitting match. Also on that show, we see The Rascalz take on Strong Hearts, Orange Cassidy and Alex Zayne do battle, Shingo Takagi take on Jonathan Gresham, Bandido face off with returning Andrew Everett, and Jeff Cobb and old pal Daisuke Sekimoto take on The Lucha Bros. Cobb loses his match, and Fatu loses his too. Both men are annoyed and so all is on the line heading into BOLA. Fatu comes out with a Samoan flag over his shoulders, and decked out in Samoan attire. Cobb is the same, but Hawaiian. They start the match off with a manly handshake, which Cobb pushes away from at the end.
Cobb busts out some moves to get in the groove with the audience, who seem to be down. We get “Bro” chants as he embraces his inner Matt Riddle. Fatu grows impatient and does one of the best acts he does, “pissed off madman”. He calls Cobb a “fatass” and tells him to stop dancing like a clown and fight. They then enter a sense lockup. Cobb and Fatu shift control of it, push8ng each other back and forth to opposite corners. Cobb pushes down tighter while he’s in control, leading to the ref telling him to hold back. Cobb realises and smirks. They then get into a collar and elbow, and push each other to the corners! THEY RUN BACK AND LOCK UP AGAIN!! THEY PUSH EACH OTHER BACK AGAIN!! This time they fall to the mat, and then get up quickly AND DOUBLE DOWN WITH STEREO CLOTHESLINES!!
Cobb and Fatu then get up because they cannot physically fall, they’re impermeable forces. Fatu runs forward but COBB HITS A MONKEY FLIP!! Match 7 - Pentagon Jr. vs. Brody King - Block A First Round Match
Final BOLA bout of the evening sees Pentagon Jr take on Brody King. Pentagon Jr is of course who most would know from AEW, or for his work in Impact or Lucha Underground. Working as part of The Lucha Bros with his brother Fénix primarily, the two have taken tag team wrestling by storm. However he is very, very, very good as a singles heel. He is amazing as a hyper aggressive and terrifyingly dangerous breaker of arms. Brody King meanwhile is another scary emo, with a giant frame and like, 90% of his body tattooed. Brody comes out wearing multiple bandanas to conceal his face, while Pentagon has his signature mask and face paint. The PWG crowd are always electric for Pentagon, and everyone joins his Cero Miedo taunt. He walks inside and continues to pander the crowd. He has some fun with King who has none of it. Pentagon offers him a Cero Miedo instead of a handshake to begin the match.
Brody isn’t having the taunts and hits a BACKDROP STRAIGHT AWAY!! He gets Pentagon in a Bow and Arrow, and when Pentagon tries to escape he drops him into a REAR NAKED CHOKE! Pentagon slides out and hits a SOCCER KICK!! He does the Cero Miedo taunt and rubs it in for full effect. KING SLAPS HIM IN THE FACE!! HE CHOPS HIS CHEST!! KING THEN HITS A BIEL TOSS!!! Pentagon gets up and HITS HIS OWN CHOP!! CERO MIEDO!! ANOTHER CHOP!! CERO MIEDO!! He winds up for a running attack but KING HITS AN SHOULDER BLOCK!! HE FOLLOWS WITH A CLOTHESLINE!! Pentagon flips inside out on the collision, and King taunts the crowd. He slashes an x with his arms in refusal of any further cero miedo’s. He then picks Pentagon up and takes him to the corner. He works him over my pummelling a shoulder in, followed by another, and then an elbow smash. He runs from the opposite corner and IS HIT BY A BIG BOOT!!
PENTAGON THROWS HIM OUTSIDE AND RUNS THE ROPES!! TOPE CON HILO!!!!!! The fans start chanting “This is Awesome” and the match has been going on for less than 5 minutes. Pentagon throws King inside and starts to work the arm over gruesomely. He wraps it up into a pretzel and then PELE KICKS IT!! King can’t hit a fully effective elbow smash, which allows Pentagon to cartwheel behind him and hit a LEG SWEEP!! The kick knocks King to the mat and Pentagon runs the ropes. King stays put meaning Pentagon runs over him, and then gets up to hit a DISCUS ELBOW WITH THE OTHER ARM!! He grabs Pentagon by the arm, AND HITS A DOUBLE SPRINGBOARD MOONSAULT ARM DRAG!! “Welcome to PWG” Excalibur says laughing at the ludicrousness of that move.
King then works the arm of Pentagon himself. He stomps on it a few times, and then contorts it himself. He cartwheels to the other side of Pentagon, then picking him up by the arm for a Modified Cravate Suplex! Pentagon thuds off the mat and rolls outside. Brody then yells out “THIS is how it’s done:”, before running the ropes, then RUNNING UP THE TURNBUCKLES FOR A TOPE CON HILO TO THE OUTSIDE!! ONCE MORE THE BIG MAN FLIES!! Brody King gets up from the floor and cuts his throat at the fans. He goes for a cero miedo himself, but before dropping it HE HITS A ELBOW SMASH!! He then picks Pentagon back up AND HITS A EUROPEAN UPPERCUT!! Pentagon leans on the apron, as King runs up. PENTAGON THEN REVERSES INTO A DROP TOEHOLD!! King’s head then hangs over the first rope, as Pentagon rolls back inside. HE THE. HITS A DOUBLE SPRINGBOARD GUILLOTINE LEG DROP ACROSS BRODY’S HEAD!!!!!!

Main Event - Andrew Everett, Bandido and Flamita vs. Outlaw Mudshow (Blake Christian, Joey Janela and Nick Gage) - Guerrilla Warfare Match
PWG has been, and regularly brands itself as, the best of Independent Wrestling in the world. However, for those unaware, that’s up for debate now. PWG from 2011-2017 was the best North American pro wrestling I think of the millennium. But in 2018, things kind of went downwards. The move from the Legion Hall (Rest in peace Legion Larry) to the Globe Theatre is regraded as the beginning of the end. I still think PWG produce good to great matches and shows, but also in 2018 - Game Changer Wrestling took off. GCW since then has taken PWG’s spot as the #1 indy, becoming that niche hip kid on the block. So here at BOLA, PWG’s biggest event of the year, they will arrive. And to add to their ironic coolness, they compete under the team name “Outlaw Mudshow”, the term many wrestling purists use to derogate them.
With the last match done with, NICK GAGE WALKS OUT!! The fans have been expecting him but his debut in a PWG ring is still receiving of a monstrous pop. He smashes a beer can over his head and goes wild with the fans, as they chant “NICK FUCKIN GAGE” at the top of their lungs and get handsy with him as he walks through their seats, stands on them, and gives people some of his beer. He takes the mic and says “flippy ass motherfuckers in the back, let’s fuckin go.” ANDREW EVERETT THEN HITS A SPRINGBOARD MOONSAULT FROM BEHIND HIM!! EVERETT HITS A BACKFLIP KICK!! He then runs the ropes and is caught by a BIG BOOT!! GAGE HITS A BRAINBUSTER ON HIM!! He then takes a fans chair and WHAMS IT ACROSS EVERETT SENDING HIM AWAY!! Joey Janela gets up from the commentary desk and rushes down to join Gage. Chris Hero then takes his spot at the booth.
PWG CHAMPION, BANDIDO THEN COMES OUT!! He punches Janela and then Gage. They go for a Double Clothesline but he ducks and runs the ropes, HITTING A FRONT DROPKICK TO BOTH GUYS!! THEY THEN REBOUND OFF THE ROPES AND HIT THE DOUBLE CLOTHESLINE!! Bandido’s tag partner and close friend, Flamita, then rushes out. HE SLIDES UNDER A CLOTHESLINE ON THE APRON BY GAGE, AND HITS A SLINGSHOT CUTTER!! Janela then punches him, and does a suck it. He punches him again, suck it. Another lunch, and another suck it. He gestures to each opposing man to suck it, AND IS HIT BY A BICYCLE KICK BY FLAMITA!! SUCK IT!! BIG BOOT BY FLAMITA!! SUCK IT!! BIG BOOT BY FLAMITA!! SUCK IT!! He tells Janela to suck it, then Gage, and three more times to Joey. BLAKE CHRISTIAN THEN HITS A SPRINGBOARD FLYING FOREARM FROM BEHIND!!
The teams are made, and Blake calls in Gage. They all beat up the ref, with Gage hitting him with a Piledriver. They then beat up the ref that follows. They all then run the ropes and hit TOPE SUICIDAS TO EVERYONE ON THE OUTSIDE!! Gage’s chair is wielded again by Mr. MDK himself, who starts running wild with it. Bandido, Flamita and Everett all feel it’s wrath. Bandido is hit by a SHOT TO THE HEAD!! GAGE THEN GOES TO STRIKE HIM WITH THE TITLE!! BANDIDO DUCKS UNDER AND HITS A HIGH-ANGLE GERMAN SUPLEX!! He picks back up his title and THROWS IT AT JANELA ON THE APRON!! He falls to the floor, and Bandido calls for Flamita to join. THEY THEN HIT STEREO SPRINGBOARD CORKSCREW SENTON BOMBS ONTO JOEY JANELA AND BLAKE CHRISTIAN!!! Andrew Everett then comes inside and takes Nick Gage out with a CHAIR SHOT TO THE HEAD!! He then sets the chair up and Sabu’s himself off it, JUMPING UP WITH A MISSILE DROPKICK!!
Andrew Everett throws Nick Gage outside, and goes out after him with a TOPE CON HILO!!! He then picks up some more chairs, about three of them. He throws them inside the ring and brings Blake Christian in. They then both indulge in a running the ropes sequence. Everett leapfrogs a roll by Christian, who then handsprings back but feints it to avoid the incoming dropkick. HE THEN HITS AN ELIA!! 1..........2.........KICK OUT!! Christian Irish whips him and runs with it, HITTING A TIGER FEINT KICK!! He looks for a Springboard attack from the middle rope, but THEN EVERETT HITS A CANNONBALL TOPE FROM UNDER HIM!! BLAKE THEN HITS AN ASAI MOONSAULT!!! Everyone is down on the floor, but Bandido and Flamita get up first. Joey Janela is up with them, flipping them two middle fingers and air humping. FLAMITA THEN HITS A HURRICANERANA INTO A TILT-A-WHIRL BACKBREAKER!!

Xing Tian - Relentless General (The Great General Xing Tian will not be conquered. He faces down armies with his armour donning the face of a demon to strike fear in their hearts. Basic idea is that Xing is still alive and had a face on his chest even before he was decapitated.)
Yemoja - Waves of Darkness (Void effects.)
Ymir - Nordic Earth (As Odin carved earth into existence from Ymir’s body, shouldn’t his body reflect the entire earth? I propose that Ymir have ice at his head and feet and become more tropical in the middle like the actual earth.)
Zeus - Ladykiller(Loverboy?) (Zeus' reputation as a prolific lover is one of his defining traits. As such, he should have a skin that’s younger and more alluring.)
Zhong Kui - Shinto Priest (Japan and China both use paper talismans to ward off evil so I figured why not give him a Japanese skin.)
Everything from here on is just some of my thoughts on this project, so if you don’t care, you can ignore this and stop reading.
This took me a bit longer than last time, but I figured I’d do it again but make it more pleasing to look at. This took a surprising amount of research and effort and I appreciate you taking a gander. I also wanted to put a brief synopsis of group skin ideas at the end and an explanation of some of the skin ideas in part 1.
Prison Escape - This would be an event or battle pass. Nu Wa and Bastet would be the jailors and Sol and Sun Wukong would be the escapees. This roster of escapees could always be expanded later ie, the Devious Mugger Loki skin.
Four Horsemen of the Apocalypse - This would also be an event or battle pass. I picked the gods mostly based on if they had a horse or ult that could work well. Apollo, among other things, is a god of plagues and healing so he fit well for Pestilence. Guan is a war god and fits in similarly well. Hachiman is the outlier for not having any relation to famine, but had a horse so in he goes. Thanatos, as Death, was the most obvious choice but the troubles in animating him a horse to fly on would make him the final tier reward.
Gambler’s Paradise - The first gambler skin I thought of in the first part of this came long before I knew Hera was going to get just such a skin. They would likely come out individually, much like said Hera skin. They include; Game Master Ullr, Death Dealer Hades, High Roller Baron Samedi, Lounge Singer Chang’e and Rain Bringer Chaac. I was also hoping they would take on a prohibition or fifties vibe.
Divine Masquerade - I took a real liking to Isis’ Midnight Raven skin and figured a few more gods could look good in a similar style. These were; V for Victory Nike, Undead Masquerade Ah Puch, Jazz Musician Heimdallr and Night’s Mistress Nox.
Coincidentally, I had a lot of African themed skins. I wanted to give the Yoruba Pantheon more representation because it’ll probably be a while until they get their next rep in Smite. Same goes for Japan, as I took heavy inspiration from anime for a couple of the skins.
Now for things I’d like to expand from the first part of this. DJ Persephone would be better as Underworld Meistro. Golem Tamer Sylvanus would make more sense as Troll Tamer with Vanus remaining a goblin. Vamana’s Beach Bash was mostly because of beach umbrellas and he’s mostly shirtless anyway. Ratatoskr’s Nidhogg’s Vassal was a reference to the dragon at the base of Yggdrasil. Odin’s All Seeing Eye would have two pillars projecting a flaming head with one hole where his working eye is, not just a straight Eye of Sauron rip. Jing Wei’s Sea Tamer was either supposed to be a pirate or a Nereid though I wouldn’t mind both. Izanami’s Portal Mistress was inspired by her ult being a portal and that being Janus’ sphere of influence. Monkey Business Hun Batz was inspired by Punkduck’s Overwatch video.
