Open slot- baking workshop

With everything that had happen, Diana thought camp could use a little moral. And one of the best way she knows how to do that is through baked goods!
And that is how the baking workshop idea was born. She spent hours thinking about what she should have in her workshop and after considering everything from frosting to to vinegar and baking soda volcanoes she found the right idea- her 1 recipe pleases all cupcake recipe!
She set everything up for the workshop and waited for campers to come.
"Hello everyone, today I'm going to teach you one of my classics- it my 1 recipe pleases all cupcake recipe. It's a very easy recipe for beginners and it's 100% customizable, so you each can make your own flavor of choice.
I will start with a demo with tips and tricks and show you how you can make different flavors all using the same basic recipe."
She started the demo giving tips along the way, starting from the first ingredient, butter.
"Make sure your butter is soft."
Then the sugar-
"We add the suger and we whip it up together, this method is called 'creaming' and this will get a lot of air inside and will make sure your cupcakes are fluffy!"
Through the eggs-
"Add your eggs one at a time and make sure ot got fully incorporated before adding the next. This will help maintaining the air as well as preventing lamps."
And finishing up with the flour, baking powder and milk-
"Mix gently only until combined! If you over mix the batter with the flour it will become dense and will lose all fluffiness."
After the basic batter was done she moved to the customization, she divided her batter into individual bowls.
"So now you can really make any flavor you want. My first example will be a chocolate cupcake- I'm just adding cocoa powder like so... the next is if you're more of a fruit person- blueberry lemon. I'm going to add some fresh blueberries and lemon zest, you can see how easy it is to customize cause like here you can have lemon, you can have blueberries or both!
Next we add crashed Oreos for cookies and cream cupcakes and for my final example carrot cake- I'm adding in my shredded carrot, my raisins, my chopped walnuts and some cinnamon.
Now it's your turn! I'll move around to see how you're doing but also don't be afraid to call me if you have questions!"
Ooc: hope you'll enjoy this! If you want to interact with Diana, ask her a question, need help costuming a specific flavor or anything else, feel free to tag me!

Some frugal tips for baking during the holidays

It’s been a rough year for a lot of people and who knows what 2021 will bring. I’m no professional, but I’ve learned a thing or two over the years from practice and from working in a bakery that might help some of you that are considering gifting baked goods next year, so here we go.
The only thing I buy on sale after Christmas would be Christmas themed dessert/treat bags since now I just bake cookies for everyone since in the long run it's much cheaper than spending $50+ per person. Last year I got some on sale for 0.50 as opposed to $1-$2. If you decide to bake cookies and have a lot of family members... find out what cookies they like and buy butter whenever there's a good sale and keep in the freezer. To not overwhelm yourself by making all the cookies on the same day, make 1-2 cookie doughs throughout the week of that month and then freeze till you need to bake them. If you didn't shape the dough into balls beforehand let the dough thaw just enough to pull apart and shape into balls, place on a baking sheet and bake for the required time. Waaay less stressful than spending all day making a bunch of different cookies from start to finish.
I prefer baking also because I know they'll enjoy it/possibly get excited for it. Buying gifts for people you never know if they'll actually use it or just donate/regift to someone, which would make me upset tbh since I thought of them when buying it and I wasted money on them and they didn’t appreciate it.
So you wanna bake cookies for multiple people but don’t have much time...
Cookie dough can be made ahead of time and frozen till needed. The two methods I do are either to wrap the cookie dough in plastic wrap and freeze it as a brick. When I need to bake cookies I take the cookie dough out and let it thaw for a few mins on the counter till I can pull it apart and shape into balls, then arrange them on a baking sheet and bake for the amount of time needed. The second method is to measure out the dough into balls, and freeze them on a parchment paper lined plate or a tray lined with parchment paper. Once frozen you can store them in a ziplock bag, box or in in Tupperware, and then place on a baking sheet and bake for the amount of time needed. There is no need to let the dough completely thaw. By freezing the dough balls beforehand it keeps them from sticking to each other, which can then lead to them breaking unevenly when trying to pull them apart. It’s a headache and a waste of time that you might not have.
If a recipe calls for sour cream and you only have plain Greek yogurt then you can substitute it for the Greek yogurt, and vice versa. This will change the moisture level/texture of your baked good so do so at your own risk...you'll still end up with a yummy cookie or bread but it won't be the same as the original recipe end result.
Greek yogurt, sour cream or vegetable oil can make for a more moist muffin/cake.
If a recipe calls for brown sugar but you only have white sugar, you can substitute it for white sugar, and vice versa. (There's a bit of discourse about this in the comments. I only do this if I run out of a certain sugar without realizing. You'll still end up with a yummy cookie or muffin, but the texture and moisture will be different compared to the original recipe. My argument would be to experiment and if it works, it works. Research yourself if you can replace certain sugars for your cakes, muffins, etc).
Some essential accessories you should have if you’re planning to bake and you're a beginner:
-Baking sheets
-Parchment paper or if you can splurge a bit, silicone baking mats (so you don’t have to waste money on parchment paper)
-An ice cream scooper (with the little lever). So much easier to measure out your cookie dough with one of these and the lever makes it easier to get the dough out of the scoop.
-Silicone spatula (can be bought at dollar tree—Betty Crocker brand). Great for scraping cake batter completely from the bowl
-Measuring cups/ Measuring spoons. Just make sure that the measurements can’t be rubbed off the utensils because then it’ll be difficult to tell which is which (This tends to happen with dollar tree brand measuring spoons—get them elsewhere).
I frequent Dollar Tree whenever I’m near one and there are 4 things I buy there when I don’t need it in bulk because I don’t use it too much, or have since bought at Costco because I use it so much now. If you have a dollar store near you, you should not be paying more than $1 for these items:
-powdered sugar
Only worth it if you don’t use it much. If you’re planning to make a lot of cakes, then just buy in bulk from Costco or buy the bigger bag from the supermarket.
-canned pineapple
I use canned pineapple for carrot cake and even pour in some of the juice into the batter. The leftover pineapple juice I use to make a drink.
-brown sugar
**store in an airtight glass jar. Have any glass pasta sauce jars you’re tossing? Wash it very well and let it dry. Smell the jar. Still smells like sauce? Wash it again and the smell should be gone unless you had a garlic/pickle infused jar...then don’t use that jar. You don’t need mason jars to store dry ingredients. You already paid for the tomato sauce jar. Use it.
-parchment paper:
***NOT WAX PAPER. COMPLETELY DIFFERENT. Putting wax paper in the oven will cause the paper to catch fire. No one wants to deal with the fire dept so close to the holidays. If you plan to bake a lot of cookies through next year then either get some parchment paper (which can be reused a few times) or splurge and get a silicone baking mat. Reusable and lasts literal years. There are affordable ones on Amazon, but I got mine from HomeGoods 5 years ago and sometimes use them for roasting vegetables in the oven as well.
Usually when it comes to baking the two most expensive ingredients to buy for the first time are extracts (usually vanilla) or additives like nuts or dried berries.
I personally find vanilla extract to be a must for baking, but it is pretty pricey, especially depending on where you live. It’s ok to start using cheap vanilla or even fake vanilla (which is the cheapest). Most people can’t really tell the difference in taste between real and fake. I started off with using a bottle of Mexican vanilla I found at Walmart for 0.99 (Molina Mexican Vanilla Blend) and have found it at the ethnic grocery store for 2.99 and at the time it worked just fine for me as I learned. Vanilla never goes bad (even with the ‘best by’ date, so you can keep it for literal years.
I have since upgraded to a 8.99 vanilla from Trader Joe’s that I’m happy with and now use the Molina Mexican Vanilla for my French toast batter.
If you don’t want to bake cookies, you can bake loaves of bread or even make your own jam!
During the summer if you find strawberries or blueberries at a really good price, buy a few containers, wash them well and then freeze them for a few months till needed. Jam can be made with fresh or frozen fruit. As long as you somewhat sterilize the jar, jam should keep in the fridge for up to a year. Banana jam is the cheapest in my opinion because I can get a large amount of bananas from Costco for less than $2. If you know anyone that has kids I’m sure they wouldn’t be opposed to receiving homemade jam to use for a PB&J sandwich or to use on some toast (it can even be used for linzer cookies).
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=62iSrXQHhUA&ab_channel=OnePotChefShow
Challah bread goes from $4-$6 in the supermarket, but you can bake your own loaf for less than $1 if you already have the ingredients. My family loves when I make Hokkaido milk bread (similar to challah—but fluffier and a bit sweeter) because on Sundays I use the whole loaf to make French toast for my family. You think challah French toast is yummy? You need to try Hokkaido milk bread French toast! Here is the video I used as reference, and if you make more than one loaf, you can either slice the whole thing before freezing so the person you’re gifting it to can keep it in the freezer and grab a slice when needed, or just freeze the entire loaf:
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=mvmHqkvhzuA&t=440s&ab_channel=emmymadeinjapan
Another recipe that’s cheap to make is Italian biscotti (nuts and dried fruit are pricey, but buying chocolate chips in bulk or just making anise biscotti are the cheaper options)
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=2odwIl34Q_I&t=418s&ab_channel=FoodWishes
If you have rolled oats in your pantry for when you make oatmeal, then you might have everything to make my favorite oatmeal raisin cookies
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=NdUCcdu7iUs&t=2s&ab_channel=BiggerBolderBaking
And here is a dairy free chocolate cake (no eggs, butter or milk) that even someone with allergies can most likely enjoy:
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=86o4gUPqVKU&t=43s&ab_channel=JennyCanCook
If you want to keep it dairy free for the frosting then just sift together some powdered sugar and cocoa powder and add a tsp of water or alternative milk at a time till the desired consistency.
And here are copycat Starbucks blueberry muffins that are cheaper and yummier (they freeze well if you can’t eat a whole batch within a few days)
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=yiVrLY6OkOc&ab_channel=SimplyYummy
If you have any baking questions or any questions in general I am more than happy to answer them to the best of my knowledge!

[Bob the hobo] A Celestial Wars Spin-Off Part 0299

PART TWO HUNDRED AND NINETY-NINE
Sunday
After he paid for the ingredients, Robbie returned to the apartment. Or rather, he returned to 2B. Since keys weren’t needed to leave an apartment, he waited just long enough to confirm no one had chosen that moment to leave their apartment across the hall before letting himself out, locking the door behind him.
“I’m home!” he called as he opened the door and let himself in. Once the door was shut, he set his purchases on the floor and leaned against the closed door to toe off his loafers.
And was slammed chest first into the door from behind.
The height and mass of the body restraining him, added to the lack of masculine strength and the pair of feminine hands sliding around his waist had him narrowing the suspect pool to two. For the sake of the whole apartment (and that of his sanity), he really hoped it wasn’t Miss W behind him. Not to mention what Llyr would do to him afterwards if it was.
“Heeey,” he grinned, twisting around to face a flustered Charlie. “I could get used to that kind of greeting, sweet pea.”
“I kept thinking you were going handing yourself in to be arrested or something! Is everything okay?”
Robbie looked up to see Lucas heading over from the kitchen. “Unpacking kept her distracted for a while, but after that with everything that’s happened, she got into her own head and nothing I said would convince her that you were fine.”
“How were you supposed to be able to do that, when he was wanted by the FBI?!”
Robbie shushed her with a kiss that started out light, but deepened until she relaxed against him. Then he broke away and pressed his forehead to hers. “I’m pulling favours within the family to get Angelo looked after as well as he possibly can and for me to get visitation. That’s what I was at the Shadow Director’s for. Getting the clearance for the visits.” Truth, without specifics.
Charlie pulled back. “The Nascerdios really have that much power?”
Robbie shook his head. “Not the family itself, sweet pea. Shadow Director Nascerdios of the FBI is a distant cousin of mine, and so long as I don’t ask her to break the law, she’s willing to … nudge it a little to do this for me as a ‘welcome to the family’ sort of thing.” That was probably giving Cora more credit than she deserved, but Robbie was determined to paint the family in the best possible light.
Relief fell across Charlie’s face, right up until it morphed into a scowl and she swung towards her brother once more. “You didn’t tell me she was a Nascerdios!”
Lucas rolled both hands palm upwards. “I did.” Then with a pause, he amended it to, “Well, no, I didn’t. But Robbie did in the car. He told you he was going to see Shadow Director Nascerdios…”
Given that that conversation was weeks ago for Robbie, he had to duck back into his memory to replay that particular sequence. Once he confirmed he hadn’t named Cora, he returned to the physical realm and said, “I don’t think I did, man. Sorry,” while shaking his head.
Charlie beamed up at Robbie, then dropped her smug gaze to her brother.
Lucas looked in shock at Robbie, for all of a second. “Oh, I see,” he said, his dry tone only a little amused. He raised a finger and bounced it between the two of them. “So, that’s how it’s going to be from now on, huh?”
Robbie smirked. “It would be, yeah, even if she was wrong.” His grin broadened. “She just happens to be right this time.”
Lucas huffed like he didn’t believe it, but that was his choice. Robbie knew the truth. Throwing an arm over Charlie’s shoulders, he said, “Could you grab those groceries beside you there, sweet pea? If we’re going to eat before midnight, I need to start getting dinner finalised.”
“I could help …”
“NO!” Lucas barked, his voice snapping out like the hammer of death had just dropped. “This apartment has dealt with enough already. We don’t need to add food poisoning to it.”
Charlie crossed her eyes and poked out her tongue at her brother, who wasn’t necessarily joking.
Charlie literally couldn’t cook. Like at all. She didn’t read labels when she grabbed things from the pantry. If it looked the same, it worked the same. Ergo, baking powder was often substituted for flour, salt for sugar and cocoa powder for gravy mix. And they were just the top three that came to mind. Robbie had seen this with his own eyes, though he had to give her credit for trying.
For a moment he contemplated letting her make something and then shifting it into what it was supposed to be when she wasn’t looking, but he decided against that. As awesome as it would’ve been to see her thrilled with herself, it would also give her false confidence that could lead to someone getting really sick.
The kitchen would remain his forte, and she could stay with cars and trucks.
“So what are you cooking?” she asked, as he led her back to the kitchen island.
“Cooking from scratch; a Japanese mushroom soup. The rest that needs finalising and setting up; you’ll have to wait and see.” Just because he could, he took Charlie by the waist and lifted her to sit on the island bench beside where he planned on working.
“That can’t be hygienic,” Lucas muttered under his breath.
“But it’s very inspirational,” Robbie countered, looking up at Charlie, who was grinning down at him. “Isn’t that right, sweet pea?”
Charlotte bent down and gave him a quick kiss.
When he broke away, Lucas was just finishing off a classic brotherly eye roll.
“See?” Robbie asked, cheekily.
“I wish I didn’t,” Lucas cut back. “Like bleach to the eyeballs level of didn’t.”
“You know the biggest, most suckiest thing about all of this?” Charlie asked, knocking her heels against the cabinets.
“What?” Both Robbie and Lucas asked together.
“Those assholes have still got Dion, and by the time I get him back, I’m gonna be in lockdown.” Her bottom lip curled into a pout. “It’s going to be a whole year before I can put my hands on my baby again and see what they've done to him.”
Not necessarily … Robbie thought to himself, as he pulled out the ingredients from the bag and placed them on the bench within easy reach. He’d already been thinking of a way to reunite his girl with her beloved truck and his current solution involved stealing a couple of the apartments downstairs. Maybe even the two at the front to keep the garage/grease smell to a minimum. 1B and 1D could be turned into a big garage of sorts for her.
Then, once the truck was cleared from the case, he could pick it up (literally) and realm-step it into the apartment. He might have to pull an It’s A Nascerdios Thing when she saw it down there inside of four solid walls, but it could technically work …
“Ewww!” Charlie’s sneer of repulsion snapped him out of his ponderings, and he realised she had picked up the packet of dried baby anchovies. “Please tell me you’re not planning on cooking with these.”
“Or tell us what they’re going in, so we know which dish to avoid,” Lucas added, screwing up his face as well. “And you’re going to want to tell Sam before we start. You know what he’s like with seafood.”
So, it seemed the siblings could still get on the same page about some things. Robbie grinned to himself as he took them from her hand and gathered up the other dry ingredients. “One: It’s a Japanese mushroom miso soup, so no, it’s not for you two. And two: I don’t think Sam’s coming home for dinner tonight.”
“It’s a school night, and he’s going into exams next week. He won’t be out late.” Lucas suddenly straightened off the bench. “Why? Has he told you differently?”
Robbie didn’t want to say his reasoning was because nothing he had prepared for that day involved a dish Sam would choose over anything else. Three years had given Robbie a rather good idea of what Sam’s likes and dislike were.
To avoid answering straight away, he went and pulled out a bowl from the cupboard and filled it with water, then opened the bag of dried anchovies and tipped them onto the bench.
“Eww, they look even worse spread out,” Charlie griped. “Now they look like a snap-frozen school.”
“I’m sure they’re no happier to be here either,” Robbie snickered, breaking the head off one and using his nail to remove the tiny black gut sack before separating them into two piles. He repeated the process over and over, not even having to look at what he was doing. “Honestly, sweet pea. I don’t know how you can stand the thick stench of petrol, grease and diesel yet get squeamish around a fish that’s obviously been dead a while.”
“I don’t plan on eating said diesel, petrol and grease, that’s why.”
“Were you planning on eating this?”
“No.”
“Then my original statement still stands.”
Lucas snorted and leaned his forearms into the island from the other side. “This part of you two I could watch all day,” he admitted.
Charlie dipped her fingers in the bowl of water and flicked him.
“Hey!”
“To answer your other question, buddy, I’m guessing since it is his last night out for a while, he’ll probably take Gerry to dinner somewhere before coming home.” That sounded feasible.
“Did anyone remember to load him up with rubbers?”
“A bit late to think of that now, Luke,” Charlie chuckled. “If they haven’t, that ship has not only sailed, its docked, changed loads and is almost back in our harbour. Literally.”
“Still, next time I’m out, I’ll grab him a couple of packets. He needs to start carrying them on him all the time now.”
Robbie looked over at Lucas and smiled.
“What?”
“Nothing, man. Just … don’t ever change.”
“Wasn’t planning to.”
Robbie could only hope that was the case.

43 calorie brownies, 387 for the whole pan!!

You guys had a lot of love for my previous pancake recipe, so based on that one, I’ve come up with a brownie recipe that is sure to be even better!! This recipe tastes like THE BEST BROWNIES I've ever made.
WARNING: while these brownies are super delicious, they are a bit harder to make than the pancakes!!
You shouldn’t make them unless you are truly motivated or the recipe will fail. If you make adjustments to the recipe, you will end up with a different cake. I do not take responsibility for your experiments. Read the recipe carefully before attempting.
Here’s the ingredients:
3/4 cup nonfat Greek yogurt
1/4 cup skim milk
1/2 cup cocoa powder
1/2 cup rolled oats
1 egg
1 teaspoon baking power
1/2 cup Truvia Baking Blend
One pint of Halo Top (your favorite flavor, even if it isn’t on sale, teehee)
T̸̀̈h̶̄̈́ĕ̸̉ ̴̌̿b̵̾̄ĺ̶̓ơ̵̓o̷͂͠d̴̄̄ ̵̋̂o̷͎̔f̴͒̉ ̴̽̐a̵͊͠ń̶͠ ̸̊̇u̶͒̆n̶̆̑ď̴̾e̵̊̈́r̸͒͘ŵ̶̊e̶̓́ḯ̶̤g̸̈́͊ȟ̶͐t̴̎̾
5 eyelashes from the person you love most in this world
An item, representing a happy memory, that you are willing to let go of
While my pancakes were merely mix-it-together and go, these are a lot more complex, unfortunately. Please read the instructions carefully to ensure the most desirable outcome.
Instructions:
  1. Mix the first 8 ingredients in a bowl, cover with foil.
  2. Go on your computer and order a ticket to a Scandinavian country. If you are in financial trouble, the northern parts of Canada will do as well. Your travel destination MUST follow these requirements:
* You have the opportunity to be AT LEAST 10 km from civilization once you begin the last stages of the recipe. The last stages of the recipe last roughly a week on average. Be sure that you are isolated enough for that not to be an issue.
* You have the opportunity to be in a massive forest area, over 100km in diameter.
* It lies in the Northern hemisphere.
* It is also crucial that you go alone.
  1. Once you’ve purchased your ticket, start researching meditation. You just need to understand the basic principles of meditating on something.
  2. Pack your dough, other ingredients, camping equipment, your basic necessities, and warm clothing. You can bring the blood with you using a small shampoo bottle if you are scared of persecution, but I usually just pay off one of the locals at my destination and get it fresh.
  3. Once you arrive in your desired country, immediately head into the forest. The thickness of the forest will make it impossible to travel on anything, but foot. If you have money to waste, you might be able to use a helicopter. I recommend spending 1-2 days walking or until you've made it about 30 km into the forest. Find a clearing, put up your tent and sleep for the night. Make sure to get a lot of rest.
  4. Dig a hole with your bare hands, about 1 foot deep. Poor the blood into the hole. Place the item and the eyelashes on top of the blood. Finally, place your dough on top of the other ingredients. Cover with dirt again, press it down a little, so it looks normal. Remember the spot where you placed your dough.
  5. Sit in front of where you buried the dough and meditate on the idea of a tiny black dot until you can see it clearly. Imagine it growing.
  6. Once it has reached the size of a large orange, introduce yourself to it. Speak to it. Imagine it slowly taking a humanoid shape, while continuing to grow.
  7. After a couple of days, it should be about the size of a toddler. You should give it a name that means something to you, preferably what you would name your next male child. DO NOT GIVE IT THE NAME OF AN EXISTING CHILD. ONCE YOU HAVE COMPLETED THE RECIPE, YOU CAN NEVER CARRY CHILDREN AGAIN. ANY PREGNANCY MUST BE TERMINATED. Using your thoughts, speak to it like you would a child.
  8. After four days of meditation, you'll be surprised by how big he has gotten. You'll likely find yourself envying his TDEE as he stands 2.5 feet taller than you. Allow him to have facial features. He will look like you and the one you love most. Ask him how you make 43 calorie brownies. He has never had a brownie, but he immediately gifts them to you. He is superior to you in every way. Never forget that. Once you've asked him for anything, you should not sleep again in his presence.
  9. Keep asking him for more and more brownies. You will feel your beloved memory leave your consciousness. Make sure no other crucial ones leave. If you notice any things missing, demand them back. Do not let him keep anything.
  10. Once you've gotten the amount of brownies you desire, leave and do not look back. He is bigger than you, but much slower. If you run for a while, it'll be very difficult for him to catch up with you. Do not let him convince you to stay.
  11. After exiting the forest, NEVER return. Go directly to the airport and take the plane home. DON'T SLEEP UNTIL YOU'RE ON THE PLANE.
  12. Try not to think of his name again. Remember that it is through your mind you speak to him :-)
  13. ENJOY your gooey delicious brownies completely guilt-free!!

Tips on how to make perfect ridiculous brownies every time!

I struggled with this recipe ever since I saw Boo's batches on Instagram. I couldn't figure out why mine came out heavy and wet. They didn't rise, and I was the only one who would touch them. I made at least two dozen terrible batches - but now even my husband fights me for them! They are so delicious, I make four batches on Sunday to eat all week. [ I use a standard bread loaf pan for best results.] Here's what I figured out:
Tip 1: Add more flour! I use 4-5 tablespoons of ordinary flour for a bread pan-sized loaf. Oat Fiber doesn't work well, sadly. Use at your own risk.
Tip 2: Use an unopened can of room temperature Coke Zero. Cold doesn't work as well for some reason. I hate the taste of ordinary diet coke, but that could be me.
Tip 3: Use brown sugar Swerve. The flavor is much better than regular Swerve. Okay, Swerve is expensive, but the cost per treat is far less than store-bought.
Tip 4: Up the baking powder! I use an entire teaspoon. This helps a lot with rising. I'm not vegan, so I've added a tablespoon of egg whites if I have them around, and this seems to help too.
Tip 5: Do NOT overmix. This is key. Add just enough diet coke to mix easily [typically about 1/2 cup for me].
Tip 6: Do NOT overbake. I do 350 for 20 mins and that seems to work for my oven.
Tip 7: I like to add a little cinnamon, and I top with 1 tablespoon (spread thin) of Duncan Hines cream cheese whipped frosting. It adds 60 calories, but so worth it ;) I've also served with a squirt of fat-free whipped topping (10 calories).
They come out fudgy but not as dense as regular brownies. Still delicious!
My calculated calories: Flour 120, whey chocolate protein powder (1 scoop) 110, Hershey's special dark cocoa 40, Dash of egg whites 20. 330 for the whole batch, or 55 calories for a big slice.

Twelve Hexennacht reviews. Overly long.

Hello! I've never posted a review here, but I've been gathering hex scents for a while now, and figured why not review them! I love browsing this sub just to see peoples creative descriptions (mine are not that) and what other people like and dislike :] About me: I think i have dull senses (or maybe my skin eats perfume), because i can't seem to smell perfume after a while. If i end up with something that really lasts on me, i love it more. I like wood smells, sweet smells, some florals, incense smells, forest smells, etc. I don't really HATE anything (well, i didn't think i did..... ) Eight of these are full sizes that i mostly blind bought on description, two were free samples, and six were from ajevie. Here goes!

I am going to start with my full sizes

Leopardite: ( Mysore sandalwood, golden sandalwood powder, vanilla husk, chamois accord, Alaskan cedarwood, tobacco leaf, black oak, cardamom, saffron threads, miel blanc. )

For me, this is such a beautiful scent! It is woody and somewhat spicy, dry, and very comforting. When it dries it gets a twinge of sweetness that is nice, and it lasts a long time. I had some of this on my wrists still the next morning which is a huge bonus for me! All in all, i'm so glad i ended up getting this one. I was considering Santal or Santal vanilla instead (which i got as samples), and i honestly prefer this one as it has way more depth.

Hygge: ( stroopwafels, cardamom-infused custard, oatmeal porridge, pink peppercorn, smoked vanilla, myrrh, fir balsam. )

This is my favorite perfume from Hex, and possibly of all time. I love cardamom and warm, sweet smells. This evokes a cozy snow day, inside your house where it's warm, and your cat is sitting near you in your favorite blanket with fuzzy socks and warm tea. And you just baked something delicious. I dont think it's an atmospheric or anything, it's clearly very food smelling, but it's beautiful. It's strong for an oil too, i can smell it all day, into the next day, and everyone else will smell it too. It's sweet, spicy, has depth, and is ideal for me. I do not smell any Fir.

Moon: ( smoked vanilla, frankincense, Peru balsam, labdanum, amber, vetiver, Atlas cedarwood, patchouli, and night musk. )

So, i was very much looking forward to this one, and on first sniff i was almost horrified by it lol. It was sharp and almost astringent smelling. However, once it dries, i seriously love it too (that's going to get annoying to hear probably, but i love most of the scents i got.) The tree smells go so well with the smoked vanilla, and the frankincense and patchouli give it sort of a sexy smell. It's slightly sweet when it dries, but very incensey and sexy. I am not great at describing smells it turns out lol.

Aziraphale: ( marshmallow-topped hot cocoa, rice, wool, crêpes, leather-bound antique books, and old, wooden bookcases. )

This is going to be my least positive review, and im very sorry for that. Opening it just now to re-sniff it to jog my memory gave me in instant headache. I only smell the leather in this. Heavy, strong, overbearing leather. When i first got this i wore it and i had to shower and take off all my clothes, and showering didn't even fully get rid of the smell. It made me so nauseous. It's stuck in my computer wrist rests (it's mostly gone now). It's OVERWHELMING. i don't get any notes other than leather , other than maybe burning. If you're into that, go for this. My eyes are watering right now in a bad way.

Gold Skulltulla: ( golden amber, cardamom, vanilla orchid, vanilla bean, tonka, myrrh. )

Well, this has every note i love lol. This is a lighter, sweeter version of Leopardite to my nose. I love it, but i don't think i needed both. It disappears on me quickly, unfortunately. It's so beautiful, and it does have some things that make it unique however, like the slight slight floral smell. It certainly brings a brightness. I realized i will love any perfume with cardamom , vanilla, myrrh, or amber.

Morphine: ( steamed milk, lavender buds, honeyed apricots, chamomile tea, honey, white amber.)

I love this one so much, especially for sleeping. It's sweet from the amber and honey, herbal from the chamomile and lavender, and has body from the amber. This really is a beautiful scent. If anyone is disappointed about lavender london fog getting the 86, they should try a sample of this. I might try to craft a drink that tastes like how this smells lol. I wish i had a room/linen smell of this.

Moonstone: ( argent ambre, night-blooming jasmine, evening air accord, lunar musk. )

I really like jasmine a lot, so of course i had to have this. It isn't particularly exciting, but it's very nice. It's very cool smelling. It is clean, fresh and a lot more "mainstream" smelling than a lot of what i normally pick. I can't wait for the weather to start warming up some, because i think i'll be wearing this very frequently.

Rose Quartz: ( rose bud, pink grapefruit, passionfruit, cream soda, pink bubblegum, raspberry mimosa accord, pink pepper. )

This pulls very heavy grapefruit on me, and for that i am thankful for. I love grapefruit! It reminds me of my best friend in high school. I get the rose on dry down, and perhaps some raspberry mimosa, but my rookie nose doesn't get much else. I honestly thing this perfume screams "pink".

Okay, so i got two free samples (i had two orders), and they were Sucre Bleu ( A veritable sweet-shop explosion: pink gumballs, Juicy Fruit gum, gummy bears, Pop Rocks, rainbow candy-coated popcorn, Skittles, caramel chews, Twinkies, marshmallow Peeps, red licorice whips, Sour Patch Kids, caramel corn, Smarties, cotton candy, waffle cone, peachy gummy rings, jawbreakers, candy corn, gummy cola bottles. ), and Red Musk (Eastern temple resins and spices, rose, pepper, sandalwood. Simultaneously clean AND sexy/dirty. ). Sucre bleu reminds me of un-vaped vape juice, the kind you get in a big squirt bottle for a mod. I don't vape anymore, but i actually really like this smell lol. It just smells like candy! slighty creamy, VERY sweet. Not sure i'd wear it much, but im not mad about getting it lol. Weirdly comforting. Red musk is kind of the opposite, it is very sexy. They were right to describe it as dirty and clean at the same time. It's so cool how that works. It smells like incense, spices and wood. I might get a big one of this. If sucre bleu is a kid going HAM in a sweet shop, then Red Musk is whatever you view as a hot person, picking out incense in a hippie shop, for a date later where they know theyre gonna be fucking.

My ajevie samples were as follows:

Old Scratch - blackstrap molasses, bourbon, pumpkin pie, candied ginger.

This is ginger molasses on me! also smells like.. butterscotch? I do get a hint of bourbon, but i wouldn't call this boozy. more like cooked bourbon frosting.

Butterbeer - sweet, golden, drippy butterscotch, rich vanilla ice cream, hot buttered rum.

THIS is butterscotch lol! Very sweet and heavy. I also get the rum, but again more like a rum butterscotch sauce for the ice cream. This smells the way the melted stuff at the bottom of an ice cream bowl with hot butterscotch sauce would smell.

Lavender London Fog - earl grey tea, steamed milk, vanilla, lavender simple syrup.
I prefer morphine to this. It's nice, don't get me wrong, but morphine has way more body and is a little more interesting. For some reason something smells a little sour here.

Blue Moon- blue musk, grapefruit, neroli, night air accord, lime peel.

I haven't given this one a fair shot, because the citrus is kind of overwhelming for me. The lime in particular i guess. It isn't bad, but i am not sure i'm ready for such a bright fragrance right now. If you love citrus, this is for you.

Santal- sandalwood incense, golden sandalwood, Mysore wood accord, vanilla sandalwood.

I like this, It's sandalwood, what's not to like lol. It's kind of faint on me sadly, and my skin eats it quickly. Maybe better to layer with.

Santal Vanille- sandalwood incense, golden sandalwood, Mysore wood accord, vanilla sandalwood, marshmallow fluff, vanilla bean extract.

This is a very creamy, pretty scent. I prefer this to the Santal, because the marshmallow and vanilla bring out the sandalwood and compliment it very nicely. If i had to choose between the two, i would most certainly choose this one. However, Leaporadite was my favorite sandalwood scent from them out of the ones i got. I am glad i didn't blindly FS this one tbh.

So, if you read that, thank you lol. I really like Hex scents for the most part. I will likely not buy any with leather notes however, because it seems it gives me a massive headache. If anyone has any questions let me know, lol.

So you want to turn heads? A guide to perfumes and how to create your signature scent!

You know how everyone talks about how good Rihanna smells? Everyone who meets her says so, to the point where you know when she's entered a room. All the sources and speculation on perfume forums like Fragrantica (an amazing resource for perfume, by the way!) agree that it's likely because she sticks to a signature scent, which is reportedly Kilian's Love, Don't Be Shy. Now, one bottle of it would set you back $240, but you don't need to have a Rihanna-sized budget to smell amazing—and to smell like yourself. So much of fragrance is how scent smells on you specifically, to other people, and choosing your scents judiciously can make both turn heads and tell others that you specifically have arrived!
Here's my advice, accumulated from being a bit of a perfume addict. I'm first going to go through my general perfume "rules," then the different "types" of perfumes and the "vibes" they give off, how to wear perfumes, how to select your signature scents (and make them your own by layering), and how to create a fragrance wardrobe for different occasions.

The Cardinal Rules of Perfume

(Disclaimer: there are no real rules to perfume, but these are the guidelines I recommend!)
  1. Hygiene first. As this excellent guide to smelling good emphasizes, perfume is not a remedy for uncleanliness. Only use perfume on clean skin, and follow all that guide's recommendations for staying fresh. If you get sweaty midday, I also recommend a talc-free body powder to freshen up if you can't go home to shower. Talc-free baby powder works for me, and I love the scent.
  2. Beware of allergies and perfume sensitivity. Perfume is not for everyone. Plenty of people are allergic to or are highly sensitive to scents. If you are one of these people, that's okay! Staying fresh and clean is also a good thing and no scent is still a good scent. Meghan and Kate don't wear perfume during official state events. KKW has said that Kendall Jenner doesn't really smell like anything most of the time, which works for her work as a model. If you work in tight quarters, like in cubicles or in a studio, or if you work in the medical field, you may also want to avoid most perfumes during the workday. Subtle fragrance oils may be more appropriate for you, as they tend to wear closer to the body and have less sillage (the "cloud" of scent a perfume creates around you). Indiemakeupandmore is a great resource for perfume oils.
  3. Never overspray. Less is generally more with perfume. Stick to one spray (or even 1/2 of a spray, or a dot with a rollerball) for daytime/work. Two sprays in the evening is usually fine, but if you're going out to dinner, overspraying may affect your enjoyment of your food. We all know someone who smelled so much of their scent that it's hard to ignore. You don't want to knock anyone out with your scent.
  4. Solicit opinions from friends and family. Before you decide upon wearing a scent regularly, ask opinions from a wide range of people you trust on how a scent smells on you to them. Ask both men and women, as they will often have different associations with different scents. While it's important that you love your perfume, everyone else has to smell it on you, after all. Watch out for very popular perfumes, as people often have extant associations with them (e.g., Chanel No. 5 with grandmas, Pink Sugar with teenagers).
  5. More expensive better. Just make sure you do your research on the ingredients of a perfume to make sure that it won't irritate you. There are plenty of perfumes that smell amazing to a broad range of people that aren't extraordinarily expensive; see this thread for examples. You can also regularly find discounted perfumes from reputable sellers (do your research!) on eBay or FragranceNet. Even a cheap perfume can really become "you."

Types of Perfume and their Vibes

Different types of perfume come off differently based off their note composition. There are plenty of great resources online to explain the very complicated art of perfumery, and I recommend you read this guide for a summary of the broadest different scent groups. (For a more "historical" approach, read this guide.) Here's a quick rundown and the "vibes" attached to each kind. Many perfumes can't be boxed in to a single scent group, so take these descriptions with a grain of salt. (Also, I don't necessarily recommend all the examples I list for everyone; these are just some examples you will probably know if you're not familiar with perfume.)

How to wear perfumes

How to select your signature scents

How to create a fragrance wardrobe

Here are the different occasions I recommend having scents for and my examples. You may want to choose different options for these occasions based on seasons, spring-summer and autumn-winter, as it's nice to have different vibes dependent on the time of year. I like fresh and floral perfumes for spring-summer and gourmand-oriental-woody perfumes for autumn-winter. Remember, a simpler wardrobe tends to be more recognizable as you.
I hope this helps you, and while none of us may ever smell as good as Rihanna, we can still turn heads! What are your perfume choices for each occasion? Are you more of a floral girl? Do you want to smell like cotton candy? What are your recommendations for perfumes that others love on you?
Edit: Thank you all for the awards!! This was really fun to write and I hope it helped you with another dimension of beauty!

To celebrate The Dawning 2020, I recreated all 5 new recipes that Bungie introduced! (Recipes Included!)

I posted the first 2 of the 5 before the holidays but I wanted to update and share with everyone now that I've finished them all!
Since the pandemic I've been making my way through the Destiny Cookbook and I thought it could be a fun project to recreate the 5 new cookies that we got to make with this Dawning! I'm a huge fan of Binging with Babish and wanted to take his approach and really try my best to come up with accurate representations of each cookie!

Blueberry Crumblers
Shaw Han loves his blueberries so I really wanted them to shine here! I was thinking of doing a blueberry version of a lemon bar but I felt like it needed to be crumblier. I did some researching and saw that the method of making Hungarian Shortbread, where you freeze and grate the dough, results in a super tender, light crumb. Easily our households favourite of the 5!

Classic Butter Cookies
Eva prefers a more classic cookie and what's better than butter? Brown Butter! If you haven't tried browning butter for your baking, please start! I figured that Eva, like most space Grandmas, would probably smell liked baked good so I added a little nutmeg and cinnamon. I used cookie stamps to give them a little extra space sass. These sorta taste like buttery, molasses cookies and that's always a good thing.

Bright-Dusted Snowballs
Tess gets fancy with her snowballs! At the start of the holidays I ate some Mexican wedding cookies and knew that they would be perfect here. I used ground pistachios instead of the traditional walnut/pecan because Tess would probably like the extra indulgence spent on her and Fenchuch is always on the hunt for fine goods! The cookies were then dusted with powdered sugar and food grade glitter for that bright engram shine!

Bittersweet Biscotti
When handing these to Crow, the text states that Crow can faintly smell chocolate and almond so I included dark chocolate and roasted almonds in the recipe. For some extra bittersweetness (and some ironic flair) I included some blood orange juice and zest.

Etheric Coldsnaps
This was the cookie that stumped me a little and was harder to think about something for it! The game states that it's a frozen delicacy but I still wanted to include some baking element. I was eating some peppermint bark and realised that this could be perfect as a Dawning treat. So I came up with: Peppermint Snap Ice Cream Cookies! The cookies are made with cocoa, topped with white chocolate and crushed candy canes. Then they are sandwiched together with vanilla ice cream. We now have a nice supply of these in the freezer!

This whole project has been a lot of fun and the support from the community has been awesome - the retweet from Bungie yesterday was just the icing on the cake! I'll be doing this again for Dawning 2021 but my goal is to make entire cookie boxes filled all the baked treats available. I will try and set myself up to take better photos and maybe upload some videos if people would watch that? I'll be adding the recipes in the comments below if anyone wants to try :)

25 Best Survival Foods To Stockpile

Getting Started with Food Stockpiling

Start Small

I have never met one person who bought ten- or twenty-years’ worth of food in one purchase. Every one of them accumulated their emergency supplies through years of hard work, budgeting, and discipline. Start small by purchasing one or two extra items every time you go to the store and set it aside for your emergency supplies.

Start Now

Because putting away emergency food can be a daunting task it is also a one that is easy to put on the back burner. Take the above advice and start small and start now. Think of it like this. If you start today, you are that much better off in two weeks.

Don’t Forget

Here are a couple other important factors you need to remember when it comes to long term food items.
  1. Do not put all your eggs in one basket. I once knew a person who put most of their food stores in several chest freezers. Hopefully, you can see the problem with that because after three days of no power, all that food is no good. Remember to diversify.
  2. Do not forget cookbooks or recipes that are written down. Nowadays most of use the internet for cooking recipes. But what if the power was out or the internet was not available?
  3. Do not forget the cookware and heating source. Do you have alternative ways of cooking if normal methods are not available? It would be helpful if you included backup cookware and a means to heat the food, such as a BBQ grill or cooking over a firepit.

Survival Food Storage

For maximizing shelf life, most of the items on the list should be kept in
  1. Mylar bags with or without oxygen absorbers, or
  2. Vacuumed sealed bags, and
  3. Stored in areas that are dry, cool, and dark.

What NOT to Stockpile – and Why

Not all foods make good stockpiling staples. Some of these foods might even be dangerous to keep in storage.
Also remember that the worst enemies of stockpiled and stored foods are light, temperature changes, oxygen and moisture. These factors are all potential triggers for bacteria, decay, degradation or the growth of mold. Keep foods away from these factors and they should last for longer: This is reason most stored products advise storage in a cool and dry area.

What Happens to Food Past the Expiry Date?

There are some foods that can be fine for years past the expiry or best-before date, but this is not true for all types of food. Different things can happen to different types of food when going past their prime – and some types of food has the potential to be dangerous (such as canned meats) while others will only lose their potency or effect (such as dried yeast or tea)
This list will tell you which foods are safe to stockpile, approximately how long they are safe to keep for past their stamped best-before date – and how you can tell when it has reached past this point.
Always checked stored food before preparation or consumption. The single most obvious way to tell when food has gone “off” is through smell: At the first trace of mold, moisture or decay, it should be discarded or you risk the consequences of food poisoning or worse.

Best Foods for Survival and Stockpiling

One last thing before getting to my list. Even though the following list is mainly made up of staples, it is what works for me. Personalize it for you, your tastes and change out items as needed in case of allergies. It is also not an all-inclusive list but meant to be a foundation on which to build on. Now that I have the basics out of the way, listed in no particular order, here are 25 food items to be stocked
Water. I know, I know water is not a food. But water is critical to our survival and an essential ingredient in most cooking. According to the rules of three we can survive three weeks without food but only three days without water. So, make sure you have plenty of water stored up in bottles, jugs, or barrels. Store them in cool, dry, dark areas. You should also have numerous ways of making water portable, such as filters and bleach.
Honey. Honey is great on everything! Okay I am a little biased because I personally love the stuff. It tastes greats and has other uses has well, such as medicinal purposes. When stored properly this item will last forever.
Pasta. When stored properly pasta can be stored for several years. It has plenty of carbs, and a lot of it can be stored easily. Plus, it will feed a lot of people.
Sugar. A requirement that our bodies need and hey, it tastes good as well. Can also be used for bartering. Keep in an airtight container and it should last indefinitely.
Salt. Other than being a daily requirement, salt has another incredibly useful purpose. It can be used in preserving food when refrigeration is not available, such as meats. Because most bacteria and other organisms cannot live on salt, if stored properly it should have an indefinite shelf life.
No Refrigeration Required. I highly suggest learning alternative methods for preserving foods without refrigeration. Examples would be dehydration, curing(salting) meat, brining meat, smoking meat, and pressure canning.Depending on the type of food being processed and the preservation method used, some foods can last anywhere from a few months to years without refrigeration.
MRE. When it comes to Meals Ready to Eat, I am always ready to eat them. I think these have come a long way in terms of taste and I for one, actually enjoy them. While they do have a long shelf life, they are also expensive and should not be eaten at every meal for an extended amount of time. But they are great for quick emergency meals.
Freeze Dried Foods. These have become popular with many outdoors people because they are extremely lightweight. That is because all the water has been removed from the meal. To prepare, simply add the required amount of water (see I told you water would be important to have)
Canned Goods- A long shelf life, incredibly cheap and no need to cook the contents make canned goods a great food to store. Additionally, there is a wide variety of food choices available.
Oats– Are a cheap ingredient that can be use in a variety of recipes. They can be eaten plan as oatmeal or used in cookies or other dishes. They are filling and if stored properly, can last a long time.
Dried beans. Beans are a good source of protein as well as having other nutritional value. They are cheap and go a long way in feeding a family. Quick tip, if you are on the move try soaking your beans in a water bottle attached to your pack.
Rice. Choose between what kind of rice you want but white rice will last the longest. It is cheap, feeds a lot of people and can last several years when stored properly.
Nuts. Are a good source of protein, fat, and fiber. Different varieties will have different shelf lives. But I vacuumed sealed a bag of mix nuts and ate them a year later with no problem.
Flour. Who does not like baked goods? Cover your baking needs with this basic ingredient. Flour unopened will have a shelf life of one year. After it is opened it decreases to about eight months. If you want a longer shelf life, then invest in whole grains and a grinder to make your own flour.Do not forget the yeast!
Peanut Butter. Mm, peanut butter, another one of my favorites, packed with protein and fats this is staple on my shelf. Unopened peanut butter can last one year and up. After opening it, if there is any discoloration or it has become thick (not as creamy) I would be cautious
Seeds. Why not supplement your diet with some fresh veggies/fruits by storing seeds? Seeds are essential to store. I am not going to recommend what you should plant as that depends on your tastes and what grows in your region. However, I will recommend that you do your research and purchase heirloom seeds.
Coffee/Tea. While they do have their health benefits, coffee and tea are great comfort and bartering items. Afterall, drinking plain water gets a bit boring after a while.
Liquor. Speaking of great comfort and barter items. Even if you do not drink, I would recommend having a bottle or two on hand. They have a long shelf life and would prove quite valuable as a bartering item.
Baking soda. Is used as in ingredient in baking and has a multitude of other use. Can be used as a general cleaner as well as toothpaste.
Powered foods and drinks. Examples would be powdered cheese, eggs, juices, cocoa, and milk. These products have a long shelf life and are easy to make.
Herbs and Spices. Some meals you will be making from items on this list might not be all that flavorful. Adding a little bit of spicelike garlic powder, salt, pepper, oregano, cinnamon, or basil will surely make the meal more enjoyable.
Cooking Grease. Do not forget cooking aids like store bought bacon grease, which can last up to a year when stored properly.
Olive oil. An alternative to grease would be cooking oils. I prefer olive oil as it has a host of health benefits. It will also last up to two years.
Hardtack. Hardtack is a simple bread like food made up of flour, water, and salt. It has an exceptionally low water content which makes it as hard as a brick. When vacuumed sealed it can last for years and years. When you are ready to eat it, I recommend soaking it for five to ten minutes in a cup of coffee, tea or soup.
Comfort Foods. Everyone is different in what they considered treats but do not forget to add some goodies into your supplies. Not only can these be morale boosting during hard times, but they could also be good barter items. Chocolate or various candies are just two such examples.
Canned Pet Food. Don’t forget about pets! Canned pet food can be stored for approximately 2 years after the best-before date. Left longer, it can become toxic – and the same rules you would use for any type of canned, stored meat applies. Discard at the first signs of damage to the can.
Dried Pet Food. Dried pet foods can be kept for approximately 1 year longer than the stamped date says. Longer than this, and it might lose nutrients, develop mold or become potentially toxic when consumed by pets.
Dried Catnip. Although not a food, it can be a pet essential in times of survival. Dried catnip can last for up to 6 months when opened, although as much as 2 years when dried or sealed. Past this time, it’s only likely to go stale, much like dried tea.
Catnip Spray. Thanks to preservatives and carrier substances, catnip sprays make for good stockpiling items for pets – and can last for several years longer than its dried counterpart.

Fixing mushy brownies?

Picture of where we're currently at: https://imgur.com/a/rIv3exo
I've tried multiple brownie recipes and haven't gotten exactly what I want so we're tweaking this one. Must-haves: Thick, approx 1", baked in a 9 x 13" pan & not cakey.
This recipe mostly has the flavor I'm aiming for, maybe needing a little more cocoa powder & salt. I baked them in an aluminum-coated steel 9x13 pan, 350 F for 40 mins. The original recipe suggested 35 mins. The edges are fine, done but not too dry. Unfortunately, even after sitting overnight, the rest comes across as mushy.
Possible fixes I haven't tried yet:
I'm not sure which is best to fix this as I have very limited brownie experience!
Current Recipe:
Mixing Method: Melt butter & chocolate together. Stir in cocoa powder. In a separate bowl, mix egg, vanilla, salt & sugar until just combined. Slowly whisk chocolate mixture into egg mixture. Sift flour over bowl of wet ingredients and gently fold with a spatula until just combined. Pour into a parchment-lined buttered 9x13 pan.

Whole bunch o NAliday reviews for your reading pleasure :p

I tried soooo many of these, and still have more on the way 😬 totally lost my mind with this collection but had a lot of fun doing so!
Here’s some quick reviews of the ones I’ve tried so far since lots of folks didn’t get their decants yet and the collection is coming down. Hope I could help : ) feel free to ask any questions or anything
Sorry for any auto correct typos - I typed this all out quickly on lots of coffee haha, and will be editing any lingering mistakes out shortly
catcoa and Cardamom Cocoa chocolate accord, Crystalline Mallow Studio blend, Green Cardamom essential oil spice, Hot Cocoa and melting Marshmallow accord
Dreamy rich chocolate and strong Cardamom with a bit of bite. The chocolate sometimes seems like hot chocolate with cardamom stewing in there, other times it seems like rich powdered chocolate with dry pods but in a good way. It’s leaning more toward hot chocolate as it ages ~ as you wear it the marshmallow emerges through the chocolate. A very delightful bouncy fresh mallow note that isn’t too sweet. Like those small batch square ones from a specialty confectioner : p One of my favorites from the collection.
NAliday tree Siberian Fir Tree essence, Balsam Tree essence, Pine Needle essence, Crystalline and a little Forest Pine Wood essence
When I first got this, it was one of the best Christmas tree scents I had ever tried ~ the sweetness gave a fuzzy warm feeling, lots of lovely lightly sweet gentle Christmas tree in the siliage ~ long lasting and the tail end is a delightful clear warm sweetness ~ As it ages the Christmas tree has been seeming more camphorous ~ wondering if anyone else is having that issue. Hopefully it’s just a weird phase it’ll grow out of. I decided not to FS because of that, when prior it was an immediate “I always need this scent” haha
noodle juice Egyptian Black Tea, Sandalwood, Blue Sugar accord, Egyptian Sugar. The term ‘Noodle Juice’ was for the Roaring 20’s party goers that drank caffeinated tea throughout the night to keep the brain sparking.
Sparkly almost bitey delicious exotic tea with a rounded sugar note if that makes sense ~ bright and earthy simultaneously. A touch of floral to the tea but not quite ~ one of the best tea notes I’ve tried, doesn’t smell like anything I’ve tried before. Really loved this one.
ducky Fresh Pear, Bastet’s Amber Absolute, Skin Musk, Vanilla Bean Liqeur, Crimson Red Musk.
I didn’t like this one as much as others did ~ for me the pear is quite realistic but quickly swallowed up by what smells red musky+ skin musk to me and it turns into pear powder. I was hoping for more of a juicy pear note that kinda remains juicy and sits on top of the musk of that makes sense. I seem to be in the minority though. It’s still really pretty and is sophisticated for sure.
bastet’s amber red pine Canadian Red Pine Needle, Siberian Fir, Balsam Gum, Pine Needles and Bastet Amber Absolute (Amber Resin imported from Alexandria, Guaiacwood, Crystal Benzoin and Crystal Frankincense)
My favorite of the three - I had issues with all of these just not being noticeable on my skin at all outside of an initial burst of the realistic top notes. I don’t mean in a “bastets amber is ethereal” way - like either I’m anosmic to these or they don’t like me. They have been deepening and getting stronger with age though, so it’s possible these need lots of time to mature. Didn’t get noticeable coconut from this (thank god) (edit: wait whatttt why did I think coconut was listed in this 😂) ~ it’s like a bed of realistic dry warm pine needles. On the sweeter side, but not so sweet that it feels too musty. It’s comforting and nice to wear and makes me feel safe.
bastets amber brûlée woods Brulée Castor Sugar, Santalum-Sugar, Sweet wood Essences of; California Redwood, Vetiver, Patchouli, Sandalwood - and Bastet Amber Absolute (Amber Resin imported from Alexandria, Guaiacwood, Crystal Benzoin and Crystal Frankincense)
The brûlée is deepening and getting more lasting power and stuff as it ages more. It’s like a whole bunch of different kinds of dry more sweet and complex wood tinged by the brûlée ~ the sweetness in this one lasts the second longest before it becomes all hard to pin down bastet amber. I think it needs to age a while because it still reads as oddly thin to me ~ or maybe I just need to adjust my expectations for how I thought it would smell. Regardless all three of these ones were really interesting works of art I’d say even if they aren’t working on me.
bastets amber grey pine Canadian Grey Pine Needle, Balsam Resin, Evergreen, Pine Needles and Bastet Amber Absolute (Amber Resin imported from Alexandria, Guaiacwood, Crystal Benzoin and Crystal Frankincense)
Really realistic delicate foresty pine needles ~ green for sure. More fresh than the red pine which is sweeter in a natural way. I have the most issues with this one lasting on me. The pine does a big hallo moment and then is gone in under 20 mins where it becomes all bastet amber - which quickly becomes quite invisible on me and I have to really concentrate hard to smell it. It’s only improved with age and I ended up FSing it anyway because it’s really pretty. I’m hoping it’ll keep improving with time because right now I have to slather it unlike anything I’ve used before and I usually amp all perfumes like crazy. It makes you smell like you rubbed against a pine tree in a cold snowy northern forest and the scent is just lingering. Super realistic - leaned ever so slightly cologne-ey in the first few days but that is long gone now.
ians fantastic rum raisin cookie Raisin Cookie accord, Orange zest, light dash of Cinnamon and Clove, Bay Rum, Sea Salted Caramel, Rum Buttercream and Condensed Soy Milk accord *don't tell Seth there are raisins in this.
Kinda thin and ethereal but also not. a lot more orange than I expected. Like someone made homemade cookies and put too much orange zest in there. There’s a lot of longevity and projection ~ floofing around me is like slightly slightly burnt buttery a bit salted caramel and atmospheric cookie ~ im not sure if it smells a little oaty, or if I’m tricking myself into thinking it’s there because of the connotation. I’m not smelling the raisins in this I don’t think. The scent really hangs around and makes you smell like “something good is baking” and I like that about it. It’s more the idea of cookie than straight up “a cookie”
unicorns and stars Buttercream accord, Moonstone Absolute, Eternal Ankh Vanilla, Soy Butter accord and lots of Vanilla beans and vanilla icing
Very buttercream vanilla frosting wrapped around what smells like to me a core of vanilla white amber. I can not deal with white amber 99.9% of the time ~ so this did not work for me.
garden rose bee Orange Blossom Honey accord (creamy honey – this is a new honey we’ve created that is not like previous Black Honey accord), Black Rose, White Garden Rose, Bastet’s Amber Absolute and Eternal Ankh Absolute
Thick earthy schmear of more musky honey that almost goes powdery but not quite. Rose is present in the scent immediately, but also does this thing where it’s like slowly peeking out in a more fresh way through the honey as it wears before it gets kinda blended and all musked together. It’s not really a red rose to me ~ more earthy, musky, little bit lemony, bright. It floofs over to - everything mixed together and a bit powdery. Like sniffing a jar of a small batch honey that isn’t filtered out and has all the bits in it. You only need the tiniest drop as this stuff is potent AF. Not a “clear” honey scent. I enjoy it ~
pomander chai Vanilla Chai Tea with Clove, Nutmeg and Allspice, Creamy Vanilla and Indian Chai Tea accord, Orange essential oil, Orange Zest, Mulled Apple Cider accord, Pineapple and White Cinnamon and eNVie saphir amber underneath
Lots of fresh orange - like when you first make the pomander and just stuck all the cloves in rather than when it’s been drying out. It fades eventually to a lil bit fruity kinda thinner chai spiced scent - less intense than say sandalwood chai is by far. It’s slightly creamy after a while in comparison to the others.
incense chai Creamed Incense accord, Chai Black Tea and spices of Allspice/Clove/Nutmeg, Sweet Myrrh Resin, Vanilla dust, Vanuatu Santal, Bastet’s Musk
Maybe my favorite of the chais from the ones available ~ a wholllleeee bunch o incense - I’d say medium to light in terms of the darkness of the type of incense in there. It’s all wrapped up and flavored with chai spice. I’d say “creamed incense” is a good word for it. It’s a bit perfumey but very nice. Reminds me of how I smelled after working at the psychic store I used to work at all day.
sandalwood chai Chai Black Tea with spices of Allspice/Black Clove/Nutmeg, Santalum Absolute and Vanilla Beans
Punch of raw chai spices - nearly on the same level of strength as the opening of koaliday. Lots of clove and allspice. It stays quite spicy the whole time but settles down enough i can smell the black tea peek out for a moment. The sandalwood adds an oddly savory bit to it all and seems a little out of place. Long lasting with a lot of projection. I’m into smelling like exotic holiday spices and am a sandalwood fiend though so I’ll be using my FS of this quite a bit. Not sweet at all, not creamy ~ all of the chai scents I’ve tried aren’t like Starbucks chai - they’re more like the mysterious raw spices in a witches house or a temple.
koaliday Bastet’s Australian melty Vanilla Ice Cream, Crystalline Absolute, Vanilla Bean Fleck, Fried Dough accord ala Funnel Cake deliciousness, White Cinnamon and Vanilla infused Powdered Sugar
Super punch you in the face white cinnamon. It’s brighter, pretty spicy, less musty than other cinnamon notes ~ the fried dough smells more like vanilla donut to me. It starts to peek out and become a part of the spices which sweeten up and start to smell like you got some fresh donuts that got way too much cinnamon and powdered sugar dumped on top in a bag, but it’s like... good like that. Donut comes out and sweetens more over time but never goes into fake territory ~ it’s intense but super good. Warm sweet creamy vanilla is left behind ~ I guess the ice cream. Not for people that hate cinnamon haha.
the Charleston Gin infused Champagne Musk accord, Juniper Berry, eNVie saphir, Bastet’s Musk, Olive Leaf, Lime and Orange essence. Our dancing GnT scent for the new Roaring 20’s. This is a skin scent that will awaken when you attempt the Charleston.
Sorta hard to describe ~ it smells like an elegant and clean lady’s skin~ velvety tawny kinda creamy + bits of the juniper Berry and lime/mandarin subtly peeking through now and then one at a time, stronger with the warmth of your skin. It’s not boozy at all ~ if anything the gin gives sort of a not quite recognizable clarity or lift to everything in contrast with that velvety skin/tawny olive leaf kinda thing that makes up the bulk of the scent.
my heart is filled with twisted light NA Egyptian Kyphi accord, Lavender, Mandarin, White Clove, Nutmeg, Amber and eNVie saphir
Very powdery/musky to me - in the way unlit incense can be ~ tough to explain. It’s like imagine the way musky dragons blood reads to the nose but replace that feeling with the notes listed ~ it’s all fuzzied up, bright, ladylike. Everything is very blended together and has a lot of longevity. I can smell the lavender and mandarin in it as more of like a well blended cast through the musk- they don’t read separate for me. It’s a bit like an unlit incense of some brighter blend intended for sleep maybe. I can see this being kinda calming to some folks. The tone of this didn’t speak to me so much.
foxes in sweaters and scarves Vanilla infused Maple accord, White Cake accord, Vanilla Icing, Vanilla Bean Whole and Absolute
Was really gross to me at first, nothing was reading right in the worst way. A week later I tried it again and it morphed into lovely rich warm natural maple syrup and warm vanilla cake. Has a lot of throw and lasts a while.
bellus (latin for Beautiful) – Neroli, Lily of the Valley, Jasmine, Tuberose, Rose, Honeysuckle, Musk and Kashmir Red Musk
Lots of musk ~ a melange of flowers tinged by Lilly that get swallowed up by red musk and prickery white musk. The red musk isn’t fizzy, but it smells quite like sniffing the fizz on a cold freshly poured cola. It’s a mainly cola like red musk perfume tinged with white floral - Not my thing but I was glad to try it.
opal vanilla I will definitely need a FS of this when it’s available. It’s like sweet cakey vanilla rich buttercream frosting with bourbon vanilla ~ reminds me a little bit of flick by hexennacht in some ways. It wears on the skin in a unique way ~ rich but flickering, ethereal. It’s sweet but the way it wears makes it more adult. Becomes more bourbon vanilla tinged with cakey frosting rather than the other way around as you wear it.
