Reading Project Rewrite Part 5 (DR2 AND Mild DR3 Spoilers)

Well, the delays are over, so I can finally get back on schedule with this series. This is part 5 of me reading the fanfic ‘Project Rewrite’ by sophie_enoshima, and sharing my thoughts on it. Here’s the last thread, if you missed it. Here’s the story if you’re reading along. Since there’s only 8 chapters left, I was tempted to binge them all together and wrap this up, but sophie has made a distinction between chapters 5 and 6, so let’s respect that. We’ll only be covering chapters 25-29 today. Spoilers for the…spicy parts of this story will be marked, but spoilers for the actual DR2 won’t be. Also yes, you read the title correctly. There are mild DR3 Spoilers in this one. They appear in the spicy parts, so they’ll be spoiler marked as well, but this is just me reminding you that if you haven’t watched DR3, you might want to give this thread a miss.
We start right where the last chapter left off, with the others learning that Hajime is not the Ultimate Hope, but is in fact a reserve course student. Now, in the canon, they took this news rather well. Well, Nagito didn’t, because he believes average people are worthless in comparison to the Ultimates, but the others didn’t mind. Hajime was their friend for who is, not because they thought he was an Ultimate like them.
The news doesn’t go down quite as well in this sequence. Sonia, makes a pretty compelling case; she’s not upset that Hajime’s a reserve course student, she upset that he decided to lie about it. She now has to wonder how much of the Hajime she’s got to know during their time in the killing game was real, and what else he could be hiding. These are all perfectly valid grievances. We knew all the way back in the beginning that introducing himself as the Ultimate Hope was going to come back and bite Hajime one day, so this is fair.
However, Sonia’s the only one who really frames her grievance that way. The rest of them either say nothing, or come across more like Nagito, as if Hajime being a reserve course student literally offends them.
“Tsk, so we worked our asses off to get a place at that school, and you just strutted in ‘cause you could.” Fuyuhiko’s temper was rising,
“Oh, so you bought your way in!” Ibuki was scowling furiously at him. “Ibuki thought you had more respect than that.”
Not only does this not make sense (Talent is the antithesis of hard work, most of these guys didn’t work to get into Hope’s Peak, at all) but it also contradicts Fuyuhiko’s character. In his FTE’s, Fuyuhiko talks about how he doesn’t think he deserves to be the heir to the Kuzuryu Clan, or the Ultimate Yakuza. He believes his sister is better than him in that regard in every way. This uppity attitude doesn’t really suit him at all.
Nevertheless, Hajime is essentially ostracized from the group, literally asked to isolate himself until things have cooled off. Chiaki wants to keep meeting Hajime in private, but he believes it’s more important that she keeps her distance, keep peace within the group since they’re just got four more days until the rewrite will be complete. Monokuma also catches Hajime alone to try and proposition him into continuing the killing game, even promising to bend the rules and assist Hajime anyway he wants with the murder, but Hajime says no. Obviously…seriously, what was the point of this? Was there ever any doubt Hajime would turn the offer down?
(Also, it turns out Kazuichi wrote a second suicide note, addressed to Hajime, revealing that he had regained pretty much all his memories, even pertaining to why the rewrite was happening at all, and he admires how brave Hajime has been. I guess it’s a nice silver lining right now.)
So, Monokuma brings out the big guns. He calls everyone to Jabberwock park, where they find 13 gravestones, dedicated to the 13 murdered students of the Student Council Massacre, the original killing game.
Between Monokuma and Nagito (who by coincidence found a file about the Kamakura project just moments ago) the group learn about Izuru Kamakura and the massacre. Monokuma then unveils the motive of this chapter…which isn’t really a motive. He just suspends the rule against killing more than 2 people. He ‘encourages’ the group to take inspiration from the massacre, and go kill everyone else, since if there’s no one else to stand on a trial with, you win automatically.
Now, before I recap the next part, I want to stress, the group does NOT suspect Hajime and Izuru are one in the same. A couple of them figure it out later, but that’s not what triggers what’s about to happen. The group decide to restrain, sedate and lock Hajime up inside of the old building, literally for no other reason, than because he’s a reserve course student, and reserve course students can’t be trusted. No seriously, this is what Fuyuhiko says;
“Nagito’s right.” Fuyuhiko agreed. “This Izuru fella was on the reserve course, these people can’t be trusted.”
See what I mean when I said Sonia’s the only one who’s grievance makes sense? And everyone else has just flown off the handle and started acting like Nagito?
So, Hajime basically spends a chapter locked up inside the old building. Everyone takes a shift to check in on him and bring him food, and seemingly as if the story is trying to walk back how the group has been acting so far this chapter, pretty much everyone on these shifts refer to Hajime as their friend, and tell him they don’t want to do this, they’re just scared, etc. I was one of Hajime’s harshest critics when he decided to call himself the Ultimate Hope, and yet even I find the others horribly disingenuous here. They’ve treated him like dirt ever since learning the truth, and literally locked him up for the flimsiest of reasons, and now I’m supposed to buy that they don’t really want to do this?
Now, we’re about to enter the spoiler territory, and boy do I have a lot to say about the twist that’s about to occur. As I was reading this, I was 200% convinced that this was another trick by Monokuma. And maybe it still will be, we’ve got 3 more pages in the 6th case to look at next time. But as far as Chapter 5 presents what’s about to happen, it appears to all be genuine, and I cannot stress enough how much I think this hurts the story. I am not being even remotely hyperbolic when I say that, in my opinion, if there’s no other twist coming up in chapter 6 to counteract this, then what happens next is on DR3’s-Mastermind-reveal levels of nonsensicalness.
…Ok, here we go.
Chiaki is about to take her shift with Hajime when she collapses and starts glitching out. Hajime breaks through the door with a chair and tries to understand what’s wrong with her. Chiaki’s trying to say something about Future Foundation, but keeps glitching out, so Hajime can’t make out what she’s saying…Then, her glitching spell suddenly passes and she tells him that Future Foundation is trying to kill him.
As if on cue (Which is something that happens a lot during this sequence, hence why I was convinced this was a hoax) the monitors on the islands come on with a message from…Kyosuke Munakata, who proceeds to explain his master plan.
Project Rewrite, from the get go, was just an elaborate trap to lure all the Remnants back in once place, so they could all be purged at once. To ensure this, Kyosuke built in two fail-safes. First, if Hajime were ever to die in the simulation, everyone else will die alongside him. Secondly, if everyone hasn’t died by Day 20 (this is in the late hours of Day 19) then the islands will begin to self-destruct, a process that takes 2 days to complete. After which, he’ll send FF agents in the real world to Jabberwock Island to apprehend Makoto and the others.
Now, I shall attempt to explain all my issues with these turn of events.
From here…pretty much everything else that happens in this case is a major event. So, I’ll save the rest of what I have to say for the character section. The only other thing I want to mention is that apparently there was some sort of hiatus for this story between chapters 28 and 29? And when sophie came back to the story, she decided to rewrite whatever ending she had in mind. Whatever that means for what’s left to read, I don’t know.
Last minute edition I was just about finished typing this up when I realized I forgot to mention something potentially big. Towards the end, Chiaki starts talking about the graduation program, and says
”Well," Chiaki resumed. “The Future Foundation couldn't allow the graduation program to happen again.”
"Why ever not?" Sonia asked, attempting to keep up.
"Because it gives Monokuma and A.I. Junko too much power." Chiaki replied.
This is, to my best recollection, the first time A.I. Junko is being acknowledged as a thing at all in this story. And it seems to be in present tense? Does that mean she’s still here? That feels like something that should’ve been brought up a lot sooner than now. I mean, wouldn’t she have posed a huge risk to this plan (Both Hajime and Kyosuke’s) from the beginning? She already hacked her way around the NWP’s settings once.
As is tradition for second to last instalments in this series, I’m going to give my thoughts on all the remaining characters.
Chiaki: I really felt like this was going to be Chiaki’s chapter. When Hajime tells her to keep her distance from him at the beginning, it’s genuinely heart-wrenching to realise this is how Chiaki has to spend her final days; watching her friends fight amongst themselves, over one of them just trying to find a way to save them all. Unfortunately, I had a harder time getting invested in her repeatedly glitching out in the latter half, as I spent half of it convinced that it was just some sort of trick by Monokuma due to all the oddities I mentioned earlier.
Fuyuhiko: It seems like the story was attempting to make Mahiru’s death from the last chapter play the same role for Fuyuhiko as Peko’s did in the canon. I applaud them for putting this new spin on Fuyuhiko’s arc, but not only have they left it really late into this story to attempt to pull it off, but the whole ‘Hajime is evil because he’s reserve course!’ movement of this chapter really interfered with those efforts. Fuyuhiko was the main proposer of Hajime’s treatment throughout this chapter and, unlike the others, the story didn’t really try to hard to endear him back to Hajime whilst he was locked in the building. They basically spent his shift arguing with each other.
Gundam: ...I’m…really having a hard time thinking of what to say here. Gundam in this story…just sort of exists? The story is definitely leaning towards his ship with Sonia, but other than that, he’s been a pretty big non-factor.
Hajime: If it wasn’t obvious enough already, I was rooting for Hajime hard all chapter. For as much as lying about his talent was a mistake, I felt like damn near every part of his treatment this chapter was pretty hard to justify. Kyosuke and Monokuma are also seeking to really single him out in their attempts to kill the rest of the cast, so it feels like he’s being attacked on all fronts. His ability to accept and move past Ibuki’s death towards the end is another testament to how far he’s come since the start of this story. Honestly, the only thing that kind of bugged me is why he continued to keep up his lies right up until Makoto gave him permission to finally come clean. I felt like some of the drama in this chapter could’ve been avoided if Hajime came clean a little earlier. Would they have believed him? Probably not, but it still would’ve been better to have it come out of his mouth first, instead of Monokuma’s.
Ibuki: Ibuki was sort of the second biggest offender of the persecution of Hajime in this chapter, but the story at least did a better job trying to justify her actions. She’s at her stress limit. She just watched two good friends die, including the guy that fixed up her hands so she could play instruments again. The fact that it was Kazuichi’s voice that dragged her out of hiding and got her killed goes a long way to suggest how indebted to him she felt. It was definitely better handled than Fuyuhiko’s explanation, but I’m still feeling pretty conflicted over whether or not this explanation excuses how she thought the worse of Hajime and ignored everything good he’s done up until this point.
Monokuma: If you’ve been following these review threads for this, or the other two fanfics I’ve covered, you probably know by now I’m not a big fan of when Monokuma gets too involved in the deaths of the characters outside of executions. So, it’s not really going to come to any surprise that him killing Ibuki doesn’t sit well with me. Yes, FF’s bug has removed the rules that bound him (not that they were really doing that properly anyway cough Ibuki’s concert cough) so there is an explanation in story, but I wasn’t very fond of it.
Nagito: Had Nagito found himself playing the same role as Fuyuhiko or Ibuki did this chapter, I probably would’ve let him off for it. It would’ve been in character for him, and would’ve made for an interesting role reversal between his and Hajime’s standings with the rest of the group. Yeah, it would’ve been pretty farfetched for the group to completely forget everything that Nagito’s done to them to that extent, but the reveal from last chapter (that he was planning to kill, win the trial, and have everyone but him and Hajime executed) seems to be pretty much ignored this chapter anyway. In the end, he didn’t actually give Hajime a particularly hard time over the lie. I also have no theories as to where he is right now, I’m glad the story’s at least acknowledging that he probably wasn’t killed of screen, but I really can’t make any guesses as to what’s going to happen next.
Peko: Peko kind of struck a pretty neutral balance in this chapter. She’s still pretty much a satellite character to Fuyuhiko, so she sided with all the decisions to restrain and imprison Hajime, but doesn’t show the same level of spite as her master did. She actually showed some compassion and understanding to the possibility of him massacring the student council incident. Acknowledging that it was still a killing game at the end of the day, so what Izuru did in principle is no different to what all the culprits in this killing game have done is a fair point, and it’s a nice use of Peko’s background to deliver it.
Sonia: She managed to steer clear of the mess that was the Hajime situation in the first half, but I still don’t really have much to say about her either. Maybe you can argue her last minute advise to Hajime, about letting Chiaki go and thinking about his death will doom everyone else, is a fitting message to come from a princess, someone who understands the need to examine the bigger picture and put the needs of the masses first? Yeah, Sonia says she’s basically just a figurehead in Novaselic currently, but her FTE’s give off the impression that she wants to do more for her kingdom, so showing this wisdom was a nice call.
Normally, this is the point in the story where I give my survivor predictions, but I haven’t got the foggiest idea. We’ve pretty much abandoned all traces of the typical DR formula at this point. I’m not even convinced we’ll get a chapter 6-type trial. Given that what remains of this story was written after DR3 and V3 came out I think there’s a solid chance sophie’ll follow the canon and have everyone escape their NWP in the end, sans Chiaki.
This story tends to do well when it focuses on the here and now (the cases themselves have met a pretty consistent quality) but falters slightly at setting up long-term plotlines (see everything I’ve said about characters surviving longer than the canon.) Maybe that’s why this late game plot twist just isn’t really landing with me. It attempts to recontextualise things that were set in motion weeks ago, and it just doesn’t add up when you step back and look at it from afar. There’s still three chapters to go, and the story can still make me eat my words and reveal something that makes everything unearthed in this chapter into a masterpiece. I’m still holding out hope.

My Danganronpa AU - Part 2 (Spoilers for Danganronpa THH + GD)

This AU is a continuation of this one - Trigger Happy Havoc Changed
I decided to add the prolouge this time.
Lets continue with Goodbye Despair!
Prolouge:
Hajime wakes up in a ranch, he is very confused, but is helped up by two strangers who identify as Nagito Komaeda and Ibuki Mioda.
Nagito tells him that yesterday, he and Ibuki found themselves in this island, Hajime is confused about them choosing to say island, but sees that they're right.
While giving Hajime a tour, they find Chiaki in the Rocketpunch market, seemingly collapsed on the soda cans, they help her, and Nagito comes to the conclusion every day two people will arrive, a fairly random one, but one that seems to be right, as in the next 6 days, 12 more people arrive.
Firstly, Sonia and Kazuichi arrive, after them Mikan and Gundham, then Fuyuhiko and Peko, Teruteru and Akane, Mahiru and Hiyoko, and then finally, Byakuya and Nekomaru.
When the next day comes and no one arrives, Nagito assumes that no one else will be coming, but he knows that there's a reason they're all here.
Suddenly Usami appears, and tells them all that they've been chosen for a vacation together, as a part of an experiment to see how fast people can become friends.
Some take this news good, like Ibuki, while people like Fuyuhiko were furious, however there was nothing they can do.
Nagito decides to organize a beach party with the help of Ibuki and Hajime, Mostly everyone accepts, but then...
They hear a high pitched voice that tells them to go to the hotel, they get there and hear the news about the killing game.
Time to begin...
Chapter 1:
Hajime wakes up, still not believing what happened, he goes to the resturant to eat something, seeing everyone else also had this idea.
Hajime begins to chat with everyone, mainly Nagito, Ibuki, Kazuichi and Chiaki, as he made fast friends with them, Hajime tells them that he doesn't think people will kill eachother.
Night comes and everyone is asked to come to the beach, where Monokuma decides to give the first motive, if someone kills someone, they would get to leave without a trial, but it would only happen in the next day.
Now Hajime's really worried, if someone were to kill him, he'd just get to go out without recieving punishment for his crimes.
The next day, the meal at the resturant is lackluster, as everyone is afraid for their lives, Nagito decides to throw a party at the beach to stop people from killing eachother.
Hajime and Ibuki volenteer to help him, mostly because of fear, but also excitement for the party.
Hajime volenteers to keep the party at check, while Ibuki provides entertaintment for the party, others also help, like Teruteru with food.
Hajime decides to see how everyone's doing, Ibuki rocks out in her cottage, and Teruteru cooks food around the place.
Monokuma sees this and decides to add another motive, if a murder doesn't happen, everyone's darkest secrets would be revealed.
Hajime doesn't remember any secret that he has, so he continues on with his day.
He checks on Nagito who organized the beach beautifully along with Sonia.
The time of the party arrives and everyone has a grand time, but then, Nagito takes Hajime to the side, and tells him the real reason for the party.
Nagito plans to tie everyone up so no one can die, making them safe, and making them yearn for hope.
Hajime confronts him about this, but the clock arrives at midnight, making Monokuma's motive obsolete, Hajime explains this for a reason why Nagito shoulden't do it, but then...
"A Body Has Been Discovered! After the investigation, you can begin with the Class Trial!"
Hajime walks towards the party, and notices 4 people missing, he goes to the nearest bathroom first, but then encounters a body...
Ibuki Mioda, the Ultimate Musician... was dead on the floor.
The three people above her were mortified, Mahiru Koizumi, Gundham Tanaka and Chiaki Nanami were there, horrified.
And so the investigation began...
First off, Hajime asked some of the people in the party about when they walked in and out of the party, somethings seemed... off...
A lot of people said Nagito walked off several minutes before the time of death, however, Nagito was with him the all time.
Then, he realized Fuyuhiko never came to the party, making him a suspect.
And Mahiru, Gundham and Chiaki were also suspected.
After looking at more of the evidence, Monokuma began the trial.
People were quick to blame Nagito, but backed off quickly, as he had an alibi, however, while they did that, Nagito showed his true colors to everyone.
Then, Hajime questioned Fuyuhiko's alibi, but Peko protects him by saying she brought him food from the party at the time of murder, as well as everyone saying she did go out to do it.
However, the blame falls back on Nagito, remembering he was the first to arrive along with Ibuki, he could've found some evidence of the killing game, and create a trap, however, Ibuki was not the first person in the bathroom, meaning someone else would activate the trap if it was set there.
But then Hajime realizes the culprit, is no other than... The Ultimate Gamer, Chiaki Nanami.
This seems absurd by all of the others, as Chiaki was the kindest person in the island, but Chiaki confirms it, saying she did the worst thing a gamer could do, and she didn't want the whole world to know about it, she gives it to Hajime in a note, not wanting to reveal it.
And so, Chiaki is send to her execution.
At night, Hajime decides to open the note, and seeing she made the note long ago, as it explained that Chiaki cheated at a online tournement, and she never forgave herself for it, and thats also the reason she didn't use the first motive.
Chapter 2:
Hajime wakes up in his cottage again, very disraught at what happened yesterday, two of his first friends on this island killing eachother. The pain was awful.
Hajime went to the resturant, where everyone lamented the loss of their friends, Teruteru was trying to cheer the others up with his food, but it only seemed to have worked on Akane, who coulden't stop eating the stuff.
The day was fairly normal, Hajime hung out with everyone, tried to get to know them more, and then went to sleep.
The dream however, was really weird, instead of a normal dream, Hajime saw Ibuki and Chiaki, both with whited out eyes, keeping telling him "Get Out, Wake Up" like a creepy chant.
The next day, Monokuma summons them all for the next motive, upon graduation, the blackened will gain the thing he wants most.
This motive scares Hajime, as he can see almost anyone here accepting this offer.
It scares him so much, that he decides to talk to everyone personally to talk them out of it.
Everyone seems on board, and even though he doesn't convince Fuyuhiko, Hajime has a feeling he wasn't going to do this anyway.
Kazuichi invites Hajime to the beach, however, Hajime soon discovers it was for Sonia, but Sonia... Doesn't arrive, Bummed, Kazuichi goes to the beach house anyways, where he and Hajime find another nightmare.
Akane, The ultimate Gymnast, had her throat slit in the beach house, which is where she met her demise.
Mahiru walks in while chatting with Hiyoko, planning to go to the beach, and when they see the body...
"A Body Has Been Discovered! After the investigation, you can begin with the Class Trial!"
Considering everyone's lives depend on if they solve this, Hajime springs into action immdiantly, checking the evidence around Akane's body.
Hajime finds Sonia and asks her about this, with her saying that she was never planning to go to the beach today.
He questions the others, with the evidence pretty clearly pointing towards Sonia.
However, Kazuichi wasn't going to let that slide, and immediantly started pointing fingers at Gundham.
Monokuma decides to begin the trial.
The evidence pretty clearly points towards Sonia, but with Kazuichi there, he finds evidence that she coulden't be the culprit.
Nagito goes mad again, and starts to say nonsense in the ears of everyone, however, by listening to it, he finds the real killer.
The real blackened, the one who killed Akane Owari, was Fuyuhiko Kuzuryu, The Ultimate Yakuza.
However, Hajime can't find a motive, until Fuyuhiko gives up and tells him the motive.
At midnight, Monokuma approached Fuyuhiko with a game, and this game, told the story about the death of his sister.
So, Fuyuhiko found out that Mahiru, who protected his sister's killer, was going to the beach, he made a simple trap, however, when waiting for her to arrive, Akane came and triggered the trap, not sure how much time there is until Mahiru arrives, he made it seem as if someone crushed Akane's head to death before she entered the bathroom, and ran away.
Mahiru is completly shocked, as she doesn't remember anything about that.
Peko is shocked that Fuyuhiko didn't ask her to do it for him, but he insists on her being her own person.
Fuyuhiko is dragged away to his execution.
Chapter 3:
Peko is absolutely shocked and mortified, Hajime tries to calm her down, but she chooses to stay in her cottage.
Hajime doesn't blame her, and goes to sleep, where it seems the dream from earlier expanded with Akane and Fuyuhiko added.
Monokuma reveals the motive, the despair disease, but before Hajime responds to it, he sees that everyone is passing out, including himself.
When he wakes up, he remembers that he has a different talent, after asking everyone, those were the list he gathered:
  1. Nagito - Lucky Student
  2. Byakuya - Affulent Progeny
  3. Gundham - Clairvoyant
  4. Hiyoko - Pop Star
  5. Hajime - Detective
  6. Kazuichi - Writer
  7. Mahiru - Programmer
  8. Mikan - Swimmer
  9. Nekomaru - Martial Artist
  10. Peko - Solidier
  11. Sonia - Fasionista
  12. Teruteru - Fanfic Creator
Monokuma tells them, that whoever kills someone, gains both his talent and the new talent.
Hajime is confused about the fact that Byakuya and Nagito gained the same talent they always had, but Monokuma doesn't answer him.
Monokuma finishes by explaining that the despair disease gave them those talents.
Byakuya decides to throw a barbeque, so that everyone has fun, and doesn't murder eachother.
Hajime finds someone's murder plan, and goes out to stop them.
The barbeque goes according to plan, and so Hajime goes at midnight to the crime scene, and finds the bodies of The Ultimate Affulent Progeny, the Ultimate Cook and the Ultimate Team Manager.
Amazed at the three bodies, Hajime calls Peko and Sonia, and a predictable thing happens.
"A Body Has Been Discovered! After the investigation, you can begin with the Class Trial!"
Hajime begins to examine the three bodies, seeing that only Teruteru was killed by multiple stabs, while both Byakuya and Nekomaru were killed in the heat of the moment.
Hajime doesn't realize why he can do this, but then remembers the motive.
Hajime looks into who could have a motive to murder Teruteru, but Monokuma starts the trial.
They immediantly blame Hajime, as he didn't know his previous talent, and this motive gave him a talent.
Then they think that either Nekomaru or Byakuya killed Teruteru, then got into a fight and killed eachother, but this is disproved by the fact that their deaths occured 10 minutes apart.
However, they also figure out that Byakuya killed Nekomaru who killed Teruteru.
In the end, Hajime finds out that whoever killed Byakuya was Sonia Nevermind, The Ultimate Princess/Tempoary Fashionista.
Sonia tells them that since she got the talent, she was aching to kill someone, along with her previous obsession with serial killers, so when she saw Byakuya very weak, she immdiantly killed him with a knife she found, she then realized what she did, and hid the evidence.
Sonia gets executed, to Kazuichi's dismay.
Chapter 4:
The next morning, everyone mourns all of the dead.
Kazuichi becomes convinced that he sees the ghosts of Sonia and Teruteru in the kitchen, which leads the other students to assume he went mad.
Monokuma reveals the next motive, the despair movie, he forces everyone to watch a movie, that doesn't seem to affect anyone.
However, when Hajime goes to sleep, he sees everyone horribly disfigured, their dead corpses on the group, and Monokuma congradulates him for managing to decieve everyone as the blackened.
Hajime wakes up from the dream, and decides to never sleep again, he goes to the restuarant, where everyone looks traumatized.
Nagito brings a lot of ice cream to cheer everyone up, he tells Hajime that it seems everyone fell into Despair.
Hiyoko arrives at the scene, and rather unlike her, decides to try and cheer up Mahiru, while still being rude to everyone else, Hajime asks her why the sudden change in heart, and Hiyoko thinks for a moment, then tears up and runs away.
This causes Mahiru to snap, she asks Hajime what did he do to Hiyoko, and he tells her what happened, Mahiru runs after Hiyoko.
Mikan arrives very disraught to the resturant, and asks Hajime and Nagito to come with her, they come with her and find a very early murder.
"A Body Has Been Discovered! After the investigation, you can begin with the Class Trial!"
In front of them, there's the body of the Ultimate Photographer, Mahiru Koizumi, Hiyoko ran towards them, still crying and saw the body.
Hiyoko passed out.
Hajime began to investigate, while Nagito went somewhere else to look for more evidence, it was going well until...
"A Body Has Been Discovered! After the investigation, you can begin with the Class Trial!"
Another body was discovered, Mikan called Hajime to where he found the body of the Ultimate Lucky Student, Nagito Komaeda.
Hajime was very confused, when did the killer manage to kill Nagito?
After looking for some more evidence, the trial began.
Hiyoko demanded for the Killer to show themselves immidiantly, to come clean.
Kazuichi and Mikan suddenly began to blame Hiyoko, bullying her, Hiyoko tried to bully them back, but in her current fragile state, she barely managed to get out any words.
Hajime thought it was weird, while Hiyoko was the obvious culprit, Hajime could have not found a single way she would kill Mahiru, thats when he figured out she was framed by the Ultimate Nurse, Mikan Tsumiki, who was the real culprit.
Mikan explained that while everyone else got a nightmare, for her it was like returning to her roots, that despair was always in her grasp, she just had to grab it.
Mikan gets executed in a way that's not fanservicey.
However, they still didn't solve Nagito's murder, in which the killer is revealed to be Kazuichi who's gone crazy, but since he killed him during the investigation, it didn't count as him being a blackened.
Chapter 5:
Hajime, Gundham and Peko tie up Kazuichi in his cottage, while Hiyoko waited outside.
They decided that no matter what, they will not kill eachother.
Hajime decides to find out what happened to Kazuichi, he starts by interogatting him.
Kazuichi asks painfully for Hajime to kill him, but Hajime refuses, Kazuichi's expression looks completely despair induced, Hajime promises Kazuichi he will help and goes out of his room.
Hajime walks to where the movie was held, and looked at all of the seats, but nothing was there.
He then was confused, he couldn't become so despairful by just Sonia dying, but then he realized, Maybe not only Mikan got a "Good Despair Dream".
Hajime went back to the resturant, but then...
Nagito appeared on the screen, telling them that he planted bombs on Kazuichi, and that in 5 minutes, Kazuichi will be deleted.
Hajime tells them to stay back while he goes to rescue Kazuichi, Peko tries to come with him, but it appears Nagito lied.
"A Body Has Been Discovered! After the investigation, you can begin with the Class Trial!"
Kazuichi's burnt body is found before them, they ask Monokuma why to even have a class trial, as they know Nagito did it, and Monokuma asks them who activated the bomb, as while Nagito could've gotten a bomb, only someone else could activate it.
Hajime, knowing no one of the group had the activator, still looks for evidence, and, unsurprisingly, the activator was on Monokuma.
Monokuma tells them that was Nagito's plan, Nagito asked Monokuma to help him with a murder, Nagito planted the bomb, and recorded the clip, which he asked Monokuma to play after the trial, he gave Monokuma the activator, so he can get it later, but Kazuichi killed Nagito before he managed to do this.
However, Monokuma felt that Kazuichi deserved to be killed, as the plan was made, so he went through with it anyway, the group called his bullcrap, and Monokuma executed himself.
Chapter 6:
Hajime didn't know what would happen next, if Monokuma's dead, would they be let out?
Suddenly, a blue haired girl appeared in Monokuma's place, walking towards them, the ground she walked on glitched.
She introduced herself as the Ultimate Despair, Sayaka Maizono.
Sayaka told them, that if they want to survive, they have to get to the ruins before she catches them.
Suddenly, lots of Monokumas rose from the ground, starting to chase the group.
The group arrives at the ruins, which magically opens.
Looking inside the ruins, they find a fairly nice school, which they rest in.
In there, they find plans for the "Restablization Project", a project to restablize the remenents of despair.
Then they find a picture of a big Hiyoko, standing next to Mahiru, while confusing her, this made Hiyoko shed a tear.
Gundham found a picture of him impressing Sonia and Nagito, while Kazuichi is annoyed in the background.
Peko finds a picture of her and Fuyuhiko.
Hajime doesn't find any images of himself.
They find the files of the remenants of despair, telling them, they're the Ultimate Despairs.
Hajime finds out he was experimented on and became Izuru Kamekura.
Sayaka breaks into the ruins.
She gives them the choice between Hope (They play the killing game again) and Despair (They get out, but Sayaka takes control of their dead friends), they choose neither, letting them go.
Epilouge:
Hajime, Gundham, Peko and Hiyoko are rescued from the simulation by Makoto, Chihiro and Mukuro.
The group decides to wait until their friends wake up to leave the island.
Someone wakes up.

What do you think? Should I go on to V3?

[question] managunz ps2 config file

Sup good ppl of reddit
I hope you can clear some things up regarding Cfg files Now my copy of yakuza that I love cus it's a classic and English dubbed, my ps2 ribbon is hitting my discs and causing scratches so I don't wanna ruin my copy of yak, I made a backup and played it using managunz however its freezing on chapter 3 escape funeral, I managed to fix this issue by going to a wiki with codes for yakuza I than took the codes and copied them into a hxd and made my own config file for yakuza thanks to a reddit guide I found (bless you)
I am able to fully enjoy yakuza again thank you Now I'm thinking I have other ps2 games My killer 7 has bugs and glitches And my smt digital devil saga 2 has a text and screen shacking issue
Thing is I didn't see any config codes on wiki For killer 7 or smt DDS2
Is there a way for me to generate my own codes So that I can make my own custom Cfg files For my ps2 games I wanna use for managunz?

Yakuza 0 Possible Bug Help: Combat never ending

New to Yakuza and been enjoying the hell out of Yakuza 0 on PC (Steam), but ran into a possibly horrible progress blocker. I am in Chapter 10 with Kiryu. It is right after Kiryu leaves the Park and there are a bunch of cutscenes leading up to the meeting with the Second Acting Chairman.
There is a combat as you leave the meeting against a big pool of yakuza thugs. Three times now (one with game reboot) I have defeated this group of enemies, and then I am stuck in combat mode. I can't go backwards, or leave through the main doors. There's an approachable door that seems to go deeper into the building, and I get prompted to "Press B" but Kiryu will just kick the door. I've used pretty much all of my moveset, items lying around to interact with it. There's no timer or anything, the game just seems stuck or I'm completely stupid.
It's a bit shitty that I lost progress to this already, and had to sit through those cutscenes repetitively due to the game's flawed old school save system. Really hope I'm just missing something obvious and this 75 hour playthrough is not very glitched 😬

Yakuza 0 sound glitch (Windows Store Game Pass version)

Hi, I've been playing Yakuza 0 for a while (just started Chapter 9), but since Chapter 7 I've had this weird sound glitch that happens from time to time, that lowers the FPS for a second or two and makes the audio sound glitchy. I read that you can fix that by going into the game files, but since I'm playing on the Game Pass version I don't know where to find the game files, as the other guides are for the Steam version.

Thanks in advance to whoever helps me fix this issue.

(Danganronpa 2 Goodbye Despair Spoilers!) My blind playthrough of Danganronpa 2 (Prologue)

I started to play Danganronpa 2 and finished prologue so far. I don't know any twists that will happen later in the game, so don't spoil me what will happen later.Fuyuhiko Kuzuryu I want to be surprised. Anyway I started to play and our main protagonist is Hajime. He always wanted to go to Hope's Peak. When does this game take place? I think before the first game, but I'm not so sure. Anyway, it started to glitch and Hijami walks through door and I see 15 students including Byakuya Togami? What is he doing here??? And why is he fat??? The readhead girl caught my attention. There is this buff guy who looks really angry. Everybody is wondering what is happening. And then ... bunny appeared. Her name is Usami. And then she transported the students to an island. I am so confused what is happening? Usami says that she is taking us on school trip and told us to forget everything and wants us to hang out. Something is very suspicious. Hajime passed out and then cool song started to play. Hajime woke up and he met with Nagito Komaeda, who is... Ultimate Lucky Student? Say wasn't that Makoto's talent? Apparently they(Hope's Peak) have a lucky student every year picked up. Nagito seems like a cool guy so I started to go with him. to explore island. Here is everyone I met and what I think of them.
  1. Soda Kazuichi- Ultimate Mechanic- Seems pretty cool, but looks pretty cool. I wonder if he will help others.
  2. Gundham Tanaka- Ultimate Breeder- He wants to take over world? With 4 hamsters? Well I like him, but I should beware of him.
  3. Mikan Isumiki- Ultimate Nurse- And I thought that Chihiro was a wimp? Well this girl puts him to shame. I seriously don't see her lasting long.
  4. Ibuki Moda- Ultimate Musician- What's up girl? You look cool to hang out.
  5. Nekomaru Nidai- Ultimate Team Manager- He tends to be really angry. Why do I have a feeling that he will die soon?
  6. Fuyuhiko Kuzuryu- Ultimate Yakuza- This is 1 little angry (cute) kid. Better not mess with him. And Hope's Peak was for some reason fine to pick up a Yakuza member to attend Hope's Peak, because it isn't dangerous at all, right?
  7. Mahiru Koizumi- Ultimate Photographer- She takes things a bit more seriously (and according to E-Handbook she likes to travel alone) and is my secondary waifu here.
  8. Peko Pekoyama- Ultimate Swordsman- I'm not sure what to think of her. She will either help or will kill someone eventually. I'm keeping my eye on her.
  9. Chiaki Narami- Ultimate Gamer- She seems really into playing game(just like me) and wants to sleep(like me). Will she help me or be a load during the game now that is the question? I like her for now.
  10. Sonia Nevermind- Ultimate Princess- Why hello there Miss Sonia! For some reason I want to do everything for her. There is some charm to her. Oh yeah, she needs to be protected from a guy below.
  11. Teruteru Hahamura - Ultimate Cook- I'm not sure if I'm going to be a fan of this kid. And is that blood coming out of his nose. He did make smile few times.
  12. Hiyoko Saionji- Ultimate Traditional Dancer- For some reason, I think she is behind the killing game that will happen soon. Say all Squish Squish all you want, but I'm sure you're behind all of this, aren't you. I'm at least 30% sure that she is mastermind.
  13. Akane Owari- Ultimate Gymnast- This is what would happen if Yasuhiro and Hina had sex. I found her funny.
  14. Byakuya Togami- Ultimate Affulent Priodigy- Hey what is he doing here? And how did he got so fat. Is it an imposter or what?
I went back to beach and Byakuya told us what is the name of the Island- JabberWock Island. The place looks pretty empty and I couldn't go to that cabin for some reason. I think Nagito is hiding something. Oh yeah, Hajime Hinata doesn't know what his talent is. I wonder what it is? Ultimate Detective? Ultimate Otaku? Ultimate Matching Ties with Shirt? Anyway Usami wants us to go swimming and 10 out of 16 changed swimsuits and they went swimming. I was talking with Akame, who almost took off her clothes, Fuyuhiko doesn't want to swim and even less to talk with me. Chiaki wants to sleep. Then suddenly it became cloudy and I heard a familiar voice. We went to park where we saw... Monokuma! Usami wants to beat him up but because Monokuma is true gangsta he defeated her and then modyfied her to be his little sister Monomi. Monokuma then stated rules of killing game. Everyone was even more confused and they wanted to obey him. But he told them not to do it. And then 4 statues came to life (Monobeasts) and Monokuma then killed Monomi in quite brutal(but epic) excecution. So the killing game begin.
I'm impressed by the game so far. So here are my predictions on who will survive and who will die:
High chance to survive: Hijami, Nagito, Byakuya, Akane, Mahiru
Medium chance to survive: Sonia, Chiaki, Fuyuhiko.
Low chance to survive: Gundham, Ibuki, Soda, Peko
Almost to no chance to survive/ first to die: Hiyoko, Teruteru, Nekomaru, Mikan
Looking forward to play more chapters.

Yakuza 0 Xbox One Save Glitch.

Recently, I've been playing Yakuza 0 on the Xbox One, and it's a great game. There has just been a huge issue with saving. Sometimes when I go to a phone booth to save my game, Kiryu or Majima just stands still, and it doesn't let me do anything. Every time it happens, all I can do is just close my game and go back from where I last saved, losing sometimes hours of gameplay. I was just about to save on Chapter 15 when this glitch happened. If there's anything I could do to prevent this from happening again, please tell me.

As a $2000.00 dollar backer of the Shenmue 3 Kickstarter campaign back in 2015 and having completed 2 playthroughs, having 100% the game and getting the Platinum Trophy for PS4, and after waiting 18 years for this story, I am disappointed in Shenmue 3. I no longer care if there will be a Shenmue 4.

This is not to say that I didn’t enjoy some elements of the game (I have highlighted these below), and at first I was really happy with the game. It felt like a Shenmue game, a true respectable continuation from 2. It was only after the monotonous grind this game became did I realise nearing the end of my first playthrough that very little story has been or will be revealed, and that is when my opinion on Shenmue 3 changed from a relatively positive one, to a mostly negative one that I have now. This is driven by the fact that the entire game’s story sees us attempting to rescue Shenhua’s father by having to beat two separate thugs (once in Bailu and again in Niaowu) by learning the same move TWICE in order to defeat them (and in order to learn these two identical moves we must submit to boring gameplay mechanics in order to make money so that we can eventually obtain the Body Check moves, even though I actually beat both of them with my default movesets on the hardest difficulty during their respective fights but was still forced to lose to both of them multiple times until I obtained the Body Check Move… twice). That is the ENTIRE STORY of the game. It repeats itself twice. This is very bad storytelling. I did not wait 18 years or give $2000.00 to the Kickstarter campaign for this to be the story of Shenmue 3. It honestly feels like a bad joke.
Overall, I am disappointed in this game and the fact that very little story was revealed throughout and that the story we have been waiting for 18 years did not conclude. I am also disappointed with all the calamitous decisions Ys Net had chosen to make during the Kickstarter campaign for Shenmue 3. Such decisions as the inability to divulge the level of financial support being received by Ys Net from Sony, Sega, Shibuya Productions and Deep Silver, the Epic Games Store exclusivity deal which led to the refusal to give backers refunds until pressure mounted, an overall poor marketing campaign for Shenmue 3 and falsely advertised Steam keys, and the fact that the DLC for this game was not given to Kickstarter backers who backed the project over a specific pledge tier for free or at the very least was not even included in the retail collector editions of the game or the digital deluxe and required ANOTHER separate purchase even after fans have backed this project with their own hard earned money is, quite frankly, beyond unacceptable and continues to highlight that Yu Suzuki and his team have no intention of ensuring consumers or fans are happy and that his team possesses no basic business acumen skills to operate successfully within today’s gaming industry. The Shenmue IP cannot recover from the irreversible damage that has now been done leading up to Shenmue 3’s release.
After reviewing the retail sales figures of Shenmue 3 globally, which I must say have been abysmal, along with all the critical reviews for this game which have range from mostly average to negative, I have little hope that there will be or even care if there is a Shenmue 4 anymore. I honestly feel like I have wasted $2000.00 and if I had the foresight to have known what decisions Ys Net would have made during the Kickstarter campaign and that the fact that Shenmue 3 would not reveal the important story elements that we fans have waited for 18 years to know, I would have backed the Kickstarter at a considerably lower amount, somewhere around $100.00 tier.
It is unlikely a Shenmue 4 will be produced so I now urge Yu Suzuki to release a book, novel, manga or simply his script synopsis which details the end of the Shenmue Story in so to please the fans who gave them their own money. It is a shame of what Shenmue 3 is and has become, because Shenmue 1 and 2 were and still are some of my favourite all time video games ever made and are historically and culturally significant artistic works of fiction and are masterpieces in their own right. Shenmue 3 is not.
I have separated detailed issues and improvement suggestions I have for the game into categories below:
(Heavy Spoilers so be advised):
Story issues/questions:
· At the end of Shenmue 2 and when you read the letter that Mr Yuan left for Shenhua it is implied he knows that ‘the one who holds the Phoenix’ will arrive to accompany Shenhua (being Ryo), and it is also implied he knew he would get kidnapped. How did he know this?
· There are noticeable differences to Shenhua’s house from 2 to 3. Why change it up and add the extra room?
· Why does hardly anybody know or care in Bailu that Mr Yuan, Shenhua’s father, is missing?
· 11pm should be the point Ryo returns to bed for the night, not 9pm. Though I believe this decision was made to hide the fact the game is horribly short.
· Shenhua should tag along with Ryo more when exploring Bailu, she acts as if she does not care her father is missing most of the time (further highlighted by her emotionless and terrible voice acting).
· There are many moves from the original games missing in this game, most notably the throw moves.
· The game feels very repetitive and feels like you are walking in circles (e.g. talk to this guy, then this guy). I do note this was similar to Shenmue 1 but I feel Shenmue 2 did away with the majority of such repetition. I would like to have seen more fighting and more action.
· I do not like how we are forced to lose to Yanglang, the thug in Bailu or the Red Snake’s boss.
· Grandmaster Feng doesn’t introduce himself by name yet Ryo seems to know it when he meets him in Ternary Springs and speaks with him a second time.
· Why are there only 3 thugs in Bailu, one of which causes Ryo so much trouble? Ryo beat Chai, the three elite Kowloon fighters, Master Baihu and Dou Niu, along with an army of Mad Angels, Heavens and Yellow Heads, yet he cannot beat this single thug Yanglang? It hardly seems realistic and the lack of more thugs seems rather non-threatening considering what Ryo has been through prior. This issue is again highlighted with the Red Snakes and their Boss.
· Grandmaster Feng, Shiren, Liu, Zuxiong and the Martial Hall martial artists and master should help Ryo in the Hermits Nest against the thugs, yet they don’t do anything (with Lui and Shiren showing up last minute).
· Wouldn’t the thugs in Bailu just eventually run away rather than basing up in the Hermits Nest while Ryo is wasting time grinding to learn the body check move?
· Bailu is a martial arts village but there don’t seem to be many martial artists of the calibre of Toa Lishao/Xiuying Hong there (apart from Grandmaster Feng who we never see in action).
· Ryo hardly reacts to seeing Chai again, even though he knocked him into the Yokosuka Harbour Bay and defeated him on the ferry again during the cut manga chapter 2 on the way to Hong Kong.
· How did Chai track Ryo from Hong Kong to Bailu Village?
· Did Ryo get the scroll back from Chai after climbing the bell tower and defeating him in the QTE? Because I remember Chai snatched it, got elbowed by Ryo and then runs off, we never see Ryo get that specific scroll back from Chai.
· Who arranged for Shenhua’s and Ryo’s hotel stay in Niaowu? Does Ryo pay for Shenhua’s room? It looks like he only pays for his own room, and if that is the case, who pays for Shenhua’s room? Where did she get the money? I am sure in an interaction with an NPC Ryo mentions he pays for her lodging but we don’t actually see this amount be deducted from our overall money.
· Why does Niaowu have a start time to the day of 8am and Bailu have a start time of 7am?
· Why does Ryo call Nozomi by her last name Harasaki when he calls her on the phone? By the way, the English voice actress for Nozomi in Shenmue 3 sounds nothing like the original voice actress from Shenmue 1. It is actually hilarious to listen to.
· Ryo never asks Guizhang if his leg has healed following the end of Shenmue 1 when he calls him on the phone.
· Many of the Shenmue 1 and 2 characters do not sound anything like their original English voice actors when you phone them from the hotel in Niaowu. The original voice actors should have been involved in the game. Joy however sounds good.
· How did Ren track Ryo to Niaowu? He only knew he was going to Bailu Village at the end of Shenmue 2 when Zhu Yuanda told Ryo to go there.
· Who is Trish P and why do you get a move scroll for interacting with her name in Lui Joa Shrine?
· Why is the story repeating itself when you need to learn a specific move, the body check, to beat Yanglang in Bailu, and again the reverse body check, to beat the Red Snake’s boss in Niaowu? Why repeat the exact same thing? This is VERY BAD storytelling. And the grinding involved to obtain the wine in Bailu and the move scroll in Niaowu is boring and repetitive. I expected more from a Shenmue game.
· Why even bother including that pointless fetch quest near the end of the game for the Pawn Shop owner in the old castle area who says his items were stolen by the Red Snakes?
· Every interaction we have with Chai from Bailu to Niaowu is a QTE. They should have been fully fledged fights.
· A fight against Niao Sun would have been great.
· The $10,000 dollar Kickstarter backers who got to be Lan Di’s elite guard NPCs should have been a much tougher fight. They went down easily, even on the hardest difficulty.
· The last 3 guys with Lan Di should have been difficult fights, not comically weak characters who you beat in a QTE. Why would Lan Di associate himself with such weaklings?
· There should be more threatening Chi Yo Men guards employed by Lan Di. The jokers we beat are nothing even compared to the Mad Angels or Yellow Heads.
· Lan Di sounds nothing like the original English voice actor from Shenmue 1.
· Lan Di’s fight should have been longer and even more challenging.
· Did Hsu and Grandmaster Bie not stop Niao Sun and her guards from burning the castle down? They are clearly seen walking towards it on the bridge beating guards after Ryo and Ren make their way to the castle. Why not stop her from burning the place? Why did she not send her own guards after Hsu and Bie?
· Did Niao Sun get the real of fake Phoenix Mirror? Did Ren throw the real or fake out of the window to save Ryo from Lan Di?
· At the end of the game Ryo says to Mr Yuan he found a scroll in the cliff temple which Ren, Shenhua and Ryo are seen walking towards in the final game cutscene, but when did Ryo visit this temple to obtain a ‘scroll’? What scroll is he talking about?
· Ren has very little screen time and character development. There should have been more just like Shenmue 2.
· Shenhua’s mysterious magical abilities are not elaborated on and she gets little character development overall.
· Shenhua’s English voice actress is bad and she sounds as if she suffers from a mental disability. I know the voice acting for Shenmue games is always bad in general and as a result is unintentionally funny, but Shenhua’s voice acting is just plain bad.
· The Shenmue Tree’s significance is never explained or the fact that the game itself is named after this tree is never elaborated on.
· The story is overall disappointing and feels underwhelming especially when compared to Shenmue 1 and 2. More story should have been revealed.
· The game is very, VERY, short.
· The ending is bad and doesn’t make me want to continue this story nor have any anticipation for a sequel.
· How does Ryo even interact with people in Hong Kong and Mainland China? He can’t read Chinese but can he speak Cantonese and Mandarin? They surely don’t understand or speak Japanese.
Fan Treatment issues:
· All DLC should have been included to Kickstarter backers who backed over a certain pledge tier or at the very least the DLC should have been included in the Collector’s Edition/Digital Deluxe and not have required a separate purchase. This is unacceptable.
· Why did Sega refuse to include original arcade games within Shenmue 3 such as Virtua Fighter, Space Harrier, Hang On, Afterburner or Outrun? I would have also liked to have seen a return of Sega IPs in the form of capsule toys e.g. Sonic. However I am assuming Sega refused to do this. Sega really are trash and deserve the harsh exit they suffered from the gaming hardware market and all their financial failures. The only good game they make now are the Yakuza Series.
· Some of the capsule toy sets in the game are terrible e.g. shoes set or chairs and tables set. These are crappy capsule toys.
· Some of the PS4 trophies are unacceptably long and require too much grinding e.g. catch 1000 fish/find all herbs. Further, getting the high score across all arcade cabinets and collecting all the herbs should have been reduced to: get the high score on each type of arcade cabinet, not all of them, and collect 1 of each available herb in the game, again, not all of them. These were really boring/frustrating trophies I had to achieve, especially the fish one.
· The Catfish Rally sidequest is terrible.
· The 10,000 Yuan and 500,000 Tokens related trophies for PS4 should be cumulative.
· Some of the in-game items cost too much e.g. prize exchange clothing items. It required too much grinding to obtain.
· The Kickstarter capsule toys in the Save Shenmue temple should be listed in the in-game menu as separate capsule toy collections so that we know what we need to collect and what is missing.
Technical issues (I do however understand this is a Kickstarter project and thus lacked the funds to polish the game to desired Triple AAA game standards but many of the issues highlighted below should be rectified in a patch in my opinion):
· The graphics are bad. An overall graphical improvement of the game is needed, from character animations, NPC faces (which convey no emotion and look very still) to inanimate objects. The graphics look like an early PS3/Xbox 360 game. They are not of PS4 quality.
· The cartoony graphical style chosen for NPCs in this game is not good, and the graphics of NPCs should resemble realism just like the original games did.
· There are some minor glitches in the finished product such as getting stuck on stairs, the inability to return to your room/hotel at 9pm and the game crashing, leading the player to reload a previous save.
· The Options button on the PS4 controller should pause the game, not R1.
· We should be able to skip and pause cutscenes during our first playthrough (you can only skip cutscenes during your second playthrough if you loaded your completed save to begin a new game +).
· Skipping dialogue should be an option. It is beyond unacceptable that it isn’t.
· There should be an option to check the overall game map, place markers and it should be accessible from the main start menu, not in the notebook section of maps.
· Pressing the PS home button should pause everything in-game including cutscenes until the application is re-selected like most other games have implemented.
· The game does not run at 4k 60fps on the PS4 Pro. I specifically bought a PS4 Pro and a 4K TV just for this game but it made no difference in the end.
· Ryo’s mouth doesn't move when he enters an area he shouldn't be going to and then backs away saying "maybe I should talk to a few folks around here" etc. This looks very awkward.
· There are parts of the game which play no background music. The ambient music should remain on loop as it did in the original games and not fade out and repeat again in areas where ambient music actually plays.
· The walking and running animations are extremely awkward.
· The stamina system which always requires you to eat food is horrible. Stamina should either last longer or be removed entirely from the game. Or a separate stamina bar should be implemented into the game which is refilled via eating e.g. Metal Gear Solid 3 Snake Eater’s two separate bars, one for health and another for stamina.
· Certain animations for picking herbs do not exist and instead the game cuts to black e.g. the Trifoliate Orange. Why couldn’t there be an animation for this?
· The minimap in the corner of the screen is too small. It should be larger (or there should be an option to enlarge it).
· The animal animations look terrible e.g. the cows and chickens.
· The rain in the game is barely visible. Changing weather was implemented better in the first game which came out in 1999, 20 years ago.
· Some side quests disappear after the main story is advanced only slightly. E.g. The Biggest Catch, the fishing side quest in Bailu disappeared on me completely and required a second playthrough to complete. This was really annoying.
· The fishing mechanic is simplistic and very boring. Red Dead Redemption 2 for example had a much more fun and interactive fishing mechanic.
· QTEs are way too fast and sometimes unachievable. They need to be slowed down.
· Shenhua cannot follow Ryo properly. She lags behind and sometimes gets stuck behind things (which is actually funny to see).
· The RNG and grinding involved in completing all the capsule toy sets is boring and unacceptable. And when it comes to getting the rare capsule toys, it is just downright frustrating. It feels like modern gaming loot boxes and they should have made it easier to obtain the rare capsule toys.
· The side quest for Mr Su’s tales... he is sometimes not in the Sunflower Grove for me.
· Some of the NPCs in the Verdant Bridge 1910 flashback are reused NPCs with clothing that does not look like 1910s rural China clothing.
· Niaowu feels like a ghost town. There should be more NPCs walking around.
· The fade to black seen in many cutscenes in annoying and is clearly hiding the fact that animations are missing from this game.
· There is too much late pop-in for NPCs on screen. This is especially noticeable in Niaowu.
· The framerate in this game is inconsistent.
· Some of the English dub does not match the English subtitles in rare instances.
· There is no collision animations or mechanics implemented into this game e.g. walking accidently into a wall or chair or table. Ryo robotically stops moving. Other games such as the Yakuza Series have improved on such a mechanic to resemble realism and so should have Shenmue 3.
· A lot of female NPCs look the same in Niaowu.
· The time skip feature is not implemented enough in some events of the game where it should have been implemented.
· I’ve noticed time pauses and doesn’t seem to pass when engaged in a fight/sparring.
· There is an annoying invisible wall when fighting in many of the fights. Enemies can go past this invisible wall (usually near the edge of the game area) but Ryo cannot, forcing the player to back up until the enemy comes back into interactable range.
· Random kids and NPCs wave to Ryo in Niaowu. Why?
· You are unable to run during fights like you could in the original games and therefore unable to perform running moves.
· The time of day change from day to night occurs at 6.15pm feels overall rushed and the game should have implemented a more gradual day to night time shift.
· Too many loading screens.
· The general artistic direction taken for the in-game cutscenes and dialogue exposition between characters feels bad and stiff, whereas the original games had a more natural feel amongst the characters in the cutscenes. There was also no fade to black in the original games during cutscenes.
· In the end fight against the Chi Yo Men on the bridge with Ren you cannot even turn around to defeat enemies behind you. You are forced to move forward. Movement feels very stiff and unrefined.
Improvement suggestions through a possible patch/for Shenmue 4:
· When moving the right analogue stick camera, Ryo’s head should tilt in the direction you are looking. This is achieved in other games such as Red Dead Redemption 2 for example. His overall character animation remains stiff even though Ryo tilting his head in response to camera movement was an option in Shenmue 2.
· The original Shenmue 1 and 2 menu interaction sound effects should return, along with the overall layout of the old Shenmue 1 and 2 main menus.
· There is no animation when eating food. This is especially annoying when you purchase a drink from a vending machine and do not see the original iconic animation of Ryo drinking the drink along with the awkward sounds he makes as he unrealistically finishes the drink in 2 gulps.
· A return to the Virtua Fighter fighting style including throw moves is much needed. The new fighting mechanics are ok but not as good as the original 2 games.
· When receiving the same capsule toy, Ryo should say “this again?” or something along those lines just as he did in 1 and 2. Instead he will ignore the fact he has received the same capsule toy and sometimes even say “this is great”. This is not great Ryo.
· Ryo should read street and shop signs allowed when zooming in on them just like he did in Shenmue 2.
· You should be able to strike up random conversation with Shenhua like you could in Shenmue 2 when walking the trails to her home during the end game segment.
· When you enter stores and choose to shop, your current inventory amount of items should be shown in the shop game menus as to avoid overspending.
· You should be able to walk away from NPC conversations by pressing O/B like you could in Shenmue 1/2, ending the conversation early midway.
· During fighting sequences, Y/Triangle should be the dodge button just as it was in the original games.
· The ability to pause during fights is needed.
· Niaowu should be larger and expanded upon with more shops and areas to explore just like Shenmue 2’s Hong Kong was. Yu Suzuki said this game would have a larger open world than 2 but it does not.
· We should have some sort of save file transfer from our Shenmue 1 and 2 HD saves which is compatible with Shenmue 3.
· Side quest NPCs should be highlighted or marked on some sort of mini map.
· There should be more martial arts mini games other than just Horse Stance, Rooster Steps and One Inch Punch, and they should be more advanced than simple button presses.
· QTE title should include the original voice over it did from the arcade cabinets from the previous games.
· Why do the herbs picked not re-grow?
· I would have liked more inanimate objects to be zoomed in on by the player and interacted with along with Ryo’s comments on the item/object being inspected. There were only few instances of this during Shenmue 3 and the majority of store items could not be zoomed in on and interacted with and examined via thumb stick rotation like they could in Shenmue 1 and 2.
· More wandering NPCs to interact with.
· Some NPCs should guide you to a destination you are searching for just like they could in Shenmue 2.
· I would have liked to hear more new original music. As well more re-used tracks from Shenmue 1 and 2.
· I feel Ryo’s skin colour is too pale and white in Shenmue 3, looking more Caucasian as opposed to Japanese. In Shenmue 1 and 2 Ryo had a skin pigmentation tone which resembled actual Japanese people (though his overall look was still non-Japanese looking).
· Older moves from the previous games such as pitblow and double blow should have their own move scrolls and be able to be assigned to R2 just like the other move scrolls.
· I would have liked to have seen a restaurant eating feature, as seen in the Yakuza games.
· There should be an option in the game when starting a new day to return to yesterday’s exact location before Ryo returned for bed the previous day, as seen in Shenmue 2.
· Niaowu looks very clean. But I would have liked to have seen the buildings look more lived in, dirty and decrepit just like the buildings in Hong Kong/Kowloon.
· An inclusion of a darts mini-game. Sega does not hold the rights to darts!
· More cats, and the ability to interact with them i.e. feed them, pet them.
· There should be a statistics page in the pause menu which keeps track of in-game statistics e.g. how many fish caught etc. I had to keep a manual count.
· You should be able to assign more than just 5 moves to the move scroll editor.
· Ryo should be able to interact with his watch like in the original games from the pause menu with a backlight button being available.
· You should not have to return your fish rod at the end of each fishing spot. You should return it at the end of the day instead. This is very annoying.
· I would have liked to have re-visited some of the paths Ryo and Shenhua traversed from Langiushan to Bailu as seen in Shenmue 2.
· A manual time skip feature should be implemented which allows players to skip time to their desired hour of the day.
· NPCs do not carry umbrellas when it rains. They did in the original games.
· The training for endurance, Horse Stance, One Inch Punch etc. is boring and repetitive. They should be made to be more fun.
Notable positives that I enjoyed about the Game:
· Voice acting is generally bad. Which in turn is good. Just like the original games. It is funny when it is not trying to be funny, which makes it funnier.
· The conversations with Shenhua at her home at night are the best part of the game and gives much needed character relationship building and exploration.
· The overall music is great.
· General Shenmue feel in the clunky outdated gameplay is somewhat endearing.
· Bailu village is good. But I wish it was bigger.
· Fully voice acted NPCs with multiple lines of dialogue. Impressive.
· Inclusion of difficulty options is good.
· Inclusion of a New game + is good.
· Phone calls with old characters is amazing. I just wish they sounded more like the original voice acting cast and had more dialogue options.
· I like the training your moves mechanic via sparring. Much faster and simpler than Shenmue 1, and a mechanic which was sorely missing from Shenmue 2.
· I like how Ren saves Ryo from Lan Di at the end of the game. This should allow for an interesting character development between the two of them, but it is unfortunate we did not see this sooner in Shenmue 3 as the game abruptly ends and is very short.
If you read all this, fucking hell, even I wouldn’t have read all this you crazy person. Well done. And Merry Christmas.

Glitch

Is there a glitch on yakuza 0 between chapter 8 and 10 as don't have any of the 3 secret achievements. When i should.

Issue with Majima Everywhere in Yakuza Kiwami Windows 10 (Gamepass)

To make a long story short, I have Xbox Gamepass Ultimate, so I have been replaying all of the Yakuza games that get released on Xbox (even though I've beat them on PlayStation). I usually download the Windows 10 and Xbox versions at the same time, and try to match them up. My issue is that in order to complete Dragon of Dojima style, you have to follow specific emails of Majima Everywhere sent by Nishida.
As of right now, I'm stuck at around 42 or 43 out of 48 to max the style out. I'm at the last chapter and haven't received a few emails. Specifically the one where you can beat Majima at the Pocket Circuit, amongst others. It seems like a pretty clear cut glitch, and I don't know what to do. No emails are coming, and he won't show up anywhere but the street.

I can't hold all these gears! (Glitch, in search of help.)

So, I've been playing Yakuza 0 (PC version), all the way to chapter 12 now, and I've got a bit of a glitch on my hands. Or rather, it's turned into a big glitch. You see, I happened upon a set of Godspeed Gears Plus, and yet I cannot remove them from my inventory. Placing them in the item box just duplicates them, still leaving them in my inventory. And trying to take them out of the item box duplicates them again. Can't sell them, so now my inventory's one-third full (and my item box is half-full) of gears I can't get rid of! Sounds funnier than it is, I assure you. I've got a couple saves, but unfortunately both of them have been touched by the glitch.
I found this post from a couple weeks ago of another player having the exact same problem. Though I didn't see any solution posted.
Does anyone know if/how this glitch can be corrected? Perhaps some sort of patch might be available? As a last resort, does anyone know how to modify a save-file's item inventory in a hex editor or cheat engine? I figure if I have no other option, I can at least go in and delete them that way.

May24in12 Update plus my probably unpopular review of Final Fantasy VII Remake

Final Fantasy VII Remake (PS4) - I feel like the only person in the world who did absolutely think this was the best remake and best Final Fantasy game ever made. And don’t get me wrong, I think this game had a lot of good to it. It’s beautiful, as so many people say. The combat system is fun and rewarding.
But.
That’s kind of it for me. I was a bit worried going into this that it would be bloated, taking a 5 hour segment of a game and expanding it into, what for me, came to be about 50 hours. And I was right to be worried. There’s so many bland, unnecessary side quests. Main quests are just...so...long now. Going through the sewers, the collapsed tunnels, Shinra headquarters, anything. It takes forever. Battle, while mostly fun, also seems to take too long. Regular enemies can be tough to take down and often feel like they have way too much HP, and bosses? Oh boy, I went through some long ass boss fights. And nothing is worse than attempting a boss fight, losing 20 minutes into it, and having to restart. It’s rough.
It honestly felt like they chose to expand the game not by delving more into the history of already loved characters, but by just making everything else take literally forever to accomplish. I would have loved to see more of the developing relationship between literally any of the main characters. And I do think they actually did this quite well with Cloud and Aerith. Going through the collapsed passageway was tedious, but watching Aerith teach Cloud about high fives was so incredibly charming that I still loved it. Same with them in the coliseum. Their little interactions in between fights were great and really showed off how they were becoming closer. But I don’t really feel like we got that between any of the other characters. In fact, the only characters who were really developed were previously minor side characters, like Biggs, Jessie, and Wedge, or characters who didn’t even exist in the first game. I honestly couldn’t have cared less about Leslie and his lost fiance. It didn’t have to be a main quest to find the necklace she gave him.
Also, most of the voice acting is good, but they do these weird grunts and mmms and hmmms all the freaking time. I felt like there were scenes where characters were literally just grunting at each other and it drove me absolutely batty.
I didn’t actually finish this game. I was playing it, exploring the Shinra headquarters. At about 11PM at night, I started the Rufus Shinra boss fight. Figuring I was close to the end of a chapter, I’d fight him, then go to bed. Thus begun a two hour long gauntlet of boss fights and cutscenes with no save point in sight. After escaping from Shinra HQ is the infamous fight on the back of the motorcycle, which I kept failing in the very last part. After a few attempts, and it being 1AM and I had to work the next, I realized I wasn’t having fun. I realized I hadn’t actually been having much fun for several hours and was playing the game out of some weird, nonexistent obligation. I love Final Fantasy so much. It’s a huge part of my childhood, and so this should have been the pinnacle of that love. But it wasn’t, and I just wanted to stop playing it and play the original.
So that’s what I’m going to do. I already know the big spoiler at the ending anyways, I figure I’ll watch the last few episodes of someone’s Let’s Play online to finish it off.
I don’t know if I’ll continue the series. Might just watch Youtube Let’s Plays to get the story. If I do buy them, I’ll wait for them to be much cheaper. I’m beyond done preordering games, I’ve been burned too many times in the last year or so by preorders. Joining patientgamers lol.
LEGO Harry Potter Years 5-7 - I freaking love the LEGO games. I find it super chill and relaxing to start a level and just start blasting away and collect all the studs. Plus I’ve always been a sucker for a good collectathon, which is pretty much all the LEGO games are really good for lol. I’d actually finished the game a month or two ago but had every intention of 100%ing it for that sweet, sweet platinum trophy, which is what I did after having finally given up on FFVIIR. I literally just sat down and played LEGO Harry Potter for like three days straight and got the plat. I’m trying to finish some of the games I’ve half-started, so it was super satisfying to move this over into my completed folder.
June Plans: I honestly have no idea what I’m going to play next month. Probably finish Persona 5 Royal. I’m through the third palace and I’m feeling now is the time to just go all in and make this game my main focus. I’m looking forward to it. I’m also kind of replaying Final Fantasy VIII Remastered again because I just love that game so much lol. Since everything is closed, my husband and I can’t play our bimonthly minigolf game, so I picked up Everybody’s Golf and Golf With A Friend for us. We still get our golf fix in but also continue to practice good social distancing habits. I’d also started Bioshock last month and was REALLY loving it, but had to restart due to a glitched save file. So I took a break from that, but would like to pick that back up some time soon. And then I’ve kind of been playing a bit of The Witness a few times a week and will likely to continue to do so. It’s a good game to just jump in and out of.

Games finished in 2020:
  1. Yakuza 0 (PS4)
  2. Gato Robot (Switch)
  3. Iconoclasts (Switch)
  4. Super Mario Bros (Switch)
  5. Neo Cab (Switch)
  6. Donut County (PS4)
  7. Final Fantasy VIII Remastered (PS4)
  8. Animal Crossing: New Horizons (Switch)
  9. Final Fantasy VII Remake (PS4)
  10. LEGO Harry Potter Years 5-7 (PS4)

A chart of all upcoming otome game releases in English in 2019!

I've been having trouble finding an up-to-date chronological list of all upcoming releases in English so I thought I'd slap this together for the sub. This includes some games that aren't strictly otome games as long as they have GxB romance. I also included some episodic releases (new chapters or routes). If there is anything missing, wrong or outdated please post a comment and I'll update the table!
I'm also working on a list of games with a 2020 or unknown release date but it's not in a table yet - I'll post it in the comments.
Release dates are of course subject to change so take everything with a pinch of salt!

Question!

I’m currently on Chapter 4 in Yakuza Kiwami, and my Majima Everywhere rank is still at G. To my understanding, it should have gone up after the first scripted fight in Chapter 2 where he attacks me with his knife. Is my game glitched?

Finally back [March, April, May Report '19]

After a long while, I'm finally back and it's good to be back.. I haven't been gaming a lot in the past few months for many reasons. The big one is that I've had my final exams a couple of weeks ago (went well thankfully), so I've been studying for those a lot. Other than that, work, family, friends and a bunch of other things kept me so occupied that I only managed to play games on a casual basis. That meant a lot of Football Manager, some mobile games and a little bit of Madden NFL.
With the exams done, I hope to get back into playing some more single player games, as my backlog has increased quite a lot (I'll get into the why shortly). So let's get into my progress over the past two months. A lot to report.
----------
Games I've Added - 54 (!)
Yep, read that right. Out of the first six, Mario+Rabbids is obviously the highlight. Started it already, reached World 2 and can definitely recommend it to Switch owners.
The 3 mobile games are Score! Hero, Bacon: The Game (yes, seriously) and Guildmaster Story. The last of which was recommended by another sub member and I am looking forward to talking about it in this post later on.
Now to the main event. Some of the 45 games are owned by my brother on Steam, which I have access to thanks to Steam Family Sharing. About a dozen of these games are from my Twitch Library, which I've decided to add to my backlog count, some games are from PS Plus (Game of Thrones TT, Bloodborne) and some are Deep Silver games, which I've previously removed due to Koch Media being a bunch of pricks. As that's an issue in the past and I can now think clearly on the matter, I've realized that not playing a bunch of games I already owned was pretty dumb. So yeah, that's how I ended up with a total of 54, just adding everything I own. I wouldn't know what to do when my backlog would reach 0 anyway...
..is what I tell myself to make myself feel better about this. :D
----------
Games I’ve Quit/Abandoned – 4
I've said it many times but Axiom Verge all but confirmed it. I don't like Metroidvanias. A damn shame. I guess I don't like old school Point and Click adventures either or it may be that Thimbleweed Park is just so unfunny, I don't know. Kona was alright but ultimately too much time spent driving around looking for small items you missed and The Division is a game with a forgettable story and repetitive gameplay that I couldn't bear to play any longer. Coop might have helped maybe but nah, didn't like the game.
----------
Games I've Beaten - 6
Beaten: March 3rd
Platform: Xbox One S
Playtime: 35 hours
A little backstory on my experience with Mass Effect. I played the game for the first time back in 2016 (on PC) and quit after about 10 hours of playing time. Back then, I liked reading through the codex to get myself immersed in the game's world, I've talked to everyone I could to see which characters I would like and despise and I'd do any side quest possible to experience as much about the game as I could.
Ultimately, the horrible driving sequences with the Mako, poor gunplay and a glitch in Noveria were some of the main reasons why I decided to call it quits early.
Fast forward 2+ years and I specifically purchased Xbox Game Pass to play Mass Effect on console. One of the better decisions I've made this year for sure. I've done the exact same thing as the first time, doing as many things as possible, getting immersed and all that. My approach didn't change. The results did. First, the bad:
My god, the FPS drops were ridiculous on console. Any time more than a couple enemies would show up, the FPS dropped to <20 FPS. The gunplay is still bad and a lot of the areas were just copied and pasted on each planet, which kind of felt cheap (but hey, this was released in 2007).
I won't be able to go into detail about my experience anymore, as I've played this two months ago now but I remember the time when the world map opened up for the first time and I realized that there was so much exploring I could do. And I did. I went to each planet, collected material, did some side quests, followed the main storyline and really enjoyed myself. The amount of detail that went into the lore of this game is impressive and the main draw to the game for me. Fighting enemies always ended up being bland, boring even but the bits of story at the end of those gun fights were always worth it.
I liked the amount of backstory to each character, I liked that your decisions made a difference, I liked the twists, the villains, the ending. After it was over, I had two thoughts pop into my mind: "Damn, this game is cringy as hell" and "Damn, I want to play Mass Effect 2!". Mass Effect is a sci-fi nerds dream come true! While I'm not into the setting usually, Mass Effect has done a great job of drawing me in. I hope Mass Effect 2 can build on the original while improving on the shooting elements a bit.

Reading the review of this game on u/Pahlan's report, I knew I had to check it out. I can appreciate a game with a dumb and funny main character, Rufus in Deponia being one of my favorite characters of all the games I've played last year (I know, I'm a child).
To everyone who doesn't know about the game. you play the role of Ganyo, a spoiled brat, whose father's passed away. He inherits his dads company and things quickly go to shit. This is a Match 3 puzzle game with a total of 40 levels (tbc). In between every level, you'll be treated with hilarious interactions between Ganyo and the other characters in the game. I was well entertained during my daily commutes to work and am looking forward to future levels.
No more to say about this, check it out, it's free for iOS and Android.

I had so much to say about this game, had I written this review, when I beat the game. Don't remember many details anymore though. Alas, here is a shorter review.
The game definitely aged well. I was immediately drawn in by the atmosphere, the characters, the music and the environments, which did look dated for sure, just had so much charm to them, that I definitely wanted to see this game through.
The story, in the end, was solid enough, nothing too exciting to make me fall off my chair. The characters didn't end up having the depth to them that I hoped for but were sympathetic enough, so that I could genuinely root for them. Jade is a cool main character at least.
Beyond Good and Evil was a cool experience overall, taking pictures of newly discovered creatures for extra money and of evidence to advance missions felt like a fresh experience and was definitely a nice idea. The game didn't get me majorly excited for the sequel yet and the fact that the sequel will be multiplayeonline only or whatever definitely puts me off from the game quite a bit, so I'll wait for the reviews once the game releases.

I don't have much to say about this game. You throw a piece of bacon on a bunch of things. On the Eiffel tower for example. Or on Mona Lisa. A plane. An open mouth. On Kevin Bacon. On tweets. In level 17, you literally throw it on the number 17. It's not my proudest waste of time but it was funny. For a bit. Don't judge me, ok? And fuck food pyramids.

I didn't own many games on Switch, so I've added this game for free next to my purchase of Mario+Rabbids. Having played Undertale years ago, I was looking forward to a potential sequel since. Deltarune ended up being a spinoff but that's close enough.
I love games - just like any other media - that is funny and, to me, Toby Fox is hilarious. His humor really resonates with me and made for two very enjoyable games in Undertale and Deltarune. I also like how the game is designed. It's up to the player to kill or spare your enemies and depending on these choices, your experience will differ. It just works really well for me. I had a good time with the game and, while it might take a few years, I'm really looking forward to the second chapter to Deltarune.

I've been playing this game on my phone casually for about two years. 463 levels in I had to stop unfortunately. The FPS drops got really bad at this point, which made it difficult to really enjoy this, even on a casual basis. If the game runs fluidly, it's actually a pretty fun and unique experience for the first few hundred levels out of a total 800 I believe.

What I'm Playing in June
With my playing time due to increase over the next few months, here are the games I'm planning on playing.
PC
Playstation 4
Nintendo Switch
------------------
12in12 original list - Progress: (5/12)
------------------
My Yearly Stats:
Adding all those games will all but ensure that I will end the year on a negative but as I've previously mentioned, not having a backlog isn't really the ultimate place to be in anyway (for me). I have a nice collection going on that will last me a few years on it's own, so I'm looking forward to delve back into the pile on a more regular basis now. Best of luck for the coming months. Stay tuned, we got a giveaway coming within the next month or so.
